The family-friendly Mantra Legends hotel features spacious rooms and a huge pool.
Mantra Legends – Very convenient, quiet, and comfortable, and great value.
The Mantra is nicely distant from the traffic, crowds, and noise of downtown Surfers Paradise, the prime part of the Gold Coast, but there are still plenty of amenities close by and a tram stop is just across the road. As bright, airy, and inviting as the lobby, all rooms feature balconies, while the studios also have kitchenettes. Top of the list are the luxurious and spacious suites with two-person spa baths and optimum sea views from the highest two floors. A fine option for families, four can squeeze into each room with two double beds (or a double and a convertible sofa), while many have connecting doors. The lagoon-style pool with ‘waterfalls’ is enticing, and Mantra’s other facilities are functional while rates are pleasing.

Mantra Legends – The Location
- Address: 25 Laycock Street, Surfers Paradise. On a corner of the main road, Surfers Paradise Boulevard (with a side door for pedestrians), and Laycock Street (with the main vehicle entrance). In Surfers Paradise, the prime tourist area along the Gold Coast. About 80 km southeast of downtown Brisbane.
- Area: About 600m from the center of Surfers Paradise and less than 300m from the beach. Quieter than downtown Surfers Paradise.
- How to Get There: From the Brisbane international and domestic airports, the best options are (1) the Airtrain, every 15-30 minutes (with a Brisbane connection) that stops very near the hotel or (2) Con-X-ion shuttle buses directly to/from the hotel. More convenient – but with fewer international and domestic services – is the Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta, about 22 km south of the hotel. The best options for this airport are SkyBus with direct connections to the hotel or door-to-door shuttlebuses with Con-X-ion. (See Local Transport below for more information.)
- Nearest Transport: Bus – Remembrance Dr at Markwell Avenue (400m), Tram – Surfers Paradise (200m).
- Handy to: Surfers Paradise Beach.

Mantra Legends – Amenities
- Pool: Unusually designed like a ‘lagoon’ and flanked by ‘waterfalls’, the pool is large and shady. Only a full-length window separates it from the lobby, however, so there’s not much privacy.
- Spa: Not expected (or provided) at a hotel like this.
- Fitness Center: Good size and packed with the latest equipment. Sauna and steam room attached.
- For Families: Child-minding.
- Other Facilities: Tour desk. Laundry. Internet lounge and business services.
Mantra Legends – Food and Drink
- Restaurant: The bright and sunny Fables Restaurant is popular for its extra-long menu and substantial buffets, but only open for breakfast and dinner.
- Bar: Overlooking the lagoon-style pool and near the reception desks, the Tales Lobby Bar offers colorful cocktails and big burgers.
- Breakfast: Buffet breakfast available for an extra cost or could be included in special package deals.
- Room Service: Available 6 am to 10 pm daily.
Mantra Legends – Rooms
- Room Types: Hotel Deluxe Twin Rooms • Hotel Deluxe Studios • Spa Suites • List of all Rooms
- Smoking Rooms: Unusually, smoking is tolerated on the balconies if windows to the main rooms are closed.
- Best Room: The fabulous Spa Suites feature separate living areas and 2-person spas. On the top 2 floors for maximum possible views, including the sea; some with balconies.
- For Families: All twin rooms feature 2 double beds which can sleep 4, and many have connecting doors. Others have a king-sized bed and a sofa that converts to another double.
Mantra Legends – Local Transport
- Walking & Cycling: With about 2,400 km of special paths, the Gold Coast is heaven for cyclists. Unfortunately, the shared-bike rental company recently stopped operating, so check for latest updates.
- Trams: The very useful G:Link tram stretches along the Gold Coast from Southport to Broadbeach via Surfers Paradise. It also connects to trains at Helensvale for downtown Brisbane and the Brisbane airports (see above). The ‘Surfers Paradise’ tram stop is only 150m from the hotel.
- Taxis & Ride-shares: Taxis run by 13cabs are not that common along the streets, so arrange through the website. Uber also operates along the Gold Coast.
Mantra Legends – What’s Nearby?
Best Nearby Restaurants
- Legends Seafood Restaurant – At the hotel’s side entrance (but separately owned), this cavernous Chinese restaurant is popular with families for banquets. Authentic and well-priced.
- Shiraz Persian Restaurant – Something different on the main road opposite the Mantra. Pleasant setting inside and out, and especially good for vegetarians. (No alcohol.)
- Nicolinis – Casual pizza and pasta joint next to the Shiraz. Splendid corner setting, impressive wine list, friendly service, and authentic décor.
- Pancakes in Paradise – Spacious and colorful US-style diner. Hearty portions and all-you-can-eat specials, always busy with families. Virtually on the other side of Surfers Paradise Boulevard.
- Hard Rock Café Surfers Paradise – 400m down the main road (look for the huge guitar in the air). Usual burgers, beers, and bands, as well as balcony seating.
Best Nearby Bars
- Gilley’s Bar & Grill – Perennially popular for its street-side setting ideal for people-watching, extended menu (with meals for children), and wine/cocktail lists. About 500m via the main road.
- The Avenue – Surfers Paradise – Plush bar providing wilder than normal nightlife that includes stand-up comedy, DJs, bands, drag queen shows, and, um, karaoke. Virtually opposite Gilley’s.
Nearby Shops
-
Plenty of shops along the streets, especially Cavill Avenue 400m away (the pedestrian street leading to the beach). Also, Paradise Centre is an undercover shopping mall with plenty for the kids, such as the Time Zone games arcade and a 10-pin bowling alley.
Nearby Attractions
-
The number one attraction is, of course, the beach, which is less than 300m down Laycock Street. The beach is wide and white, but there is no shade. And it’s called Surfers Paradise for a reason: waves can be very rough for the inexperienced, so always swim between the flags where professional lifeguards operate every day during daylight hours.
Mantra Legends – The Hotel

Part of a countrywide chain of 4-star hotels and apartments, Mantra Legends is in a less developed and crowded part of Surfers Paradise.

The main entrance is along the side street to the beach, Laycock Street.

A side entrance faces the main road, Surfers Paradise Boulevard.

The guest lounge near the reception desks is comfortable, airy, and sunny.

The Tales Lobby Bar at the Mantra is popular for its cocktails and burgers.

Open for breakfast and dinner, Fables Restaurant is often packed for evening buffets.

The pool is pleasingly large but offers little privacy from the guest lounge which is only separated by windows.

At a slightly lower level than the pool, the fitness center is a decent size.

All types of accommodations are comfortable and cozy.

The studios and suites feature kitchenettes.

The rooms, studios, and suites offer splashes of color surprisingly absent in similar hotels.

Four people can comfortably sleep in the rooms that have two queen-sized beds.

Located in a less built-up area of Surfers Paradise, views from the back of the hotel are extensive.

At the side entrance of the hotel is the Legends Seafood Restaurant.

Around the streets near the hotel, a number of simple and cheap cafés serve Asian food.

For something different, the Shiraz Persian Restaurant is almost opposite the hotel.

Next to the Shiraz is the lovable Nicolini’s Italian bistro.

Also very close to the Mantra Legends is the colorful Pancakes in Paradise.

Always popular with families is the Hard Rock Café, about 400m along the main road.

Worth a short walk from the Mantra is Gilley’s Bar & Grill.

Opposite Gilley’s, The Avenue bar offers all sorts of entertainment at night.

The Mantra Legends is nicely distant from the more developed parts of Surfers Paradise.

Not far from the hotel, the Paradise Centre shopping mall has a Time Zone games arcade.

Downtown Surfers Paradise about 600m from the hotel is packed with amenities.

Only a 2-minute walk from the hotel is one of the finest beaches in the world.

Always swim between the flags – even more so on windy days when the waves can be potentially more dangerous.

The path alongside Surfers Paradise Beach is ideal for walking and cycling.

The G:link tram connects the hotel with other beaches along the Gold Coast, as well as downtown Brisbane and the Brisbane airports. Check rates and availability: Mantra Legends
