Homewood Suites is a boutique all-suite hotel in Calgary’s revitalized East Village. This historic area is currently undergoing a huge transformation where hip eateries, several live music venues, and attractions like Studio Bell, National Musical Centre and the new Central Library are all packed together. The hotel is a short walk to downtown and the many restaurants, bars, and boutiques along Stephen Avenue Walk, including the CORE Shopping Centre. The suites are spacious, modern, clean, and comfortable, and include full kitchens, complimentary breakfast, and grocery service.

- Devonian Gardens – The top level of CORE shopping center is home to Devonian Gardens, a large and popular indoor botanical garden with a children’s play area. (1.5 km).
- Prince’s Island Park – Beautiful and popular island park with picnic spots and several gardens, and also where several festivals are held, including Canada Day celebrations and Calgary Folk Festival. The hotel’s exterior is very modern and inviting. It’s in the same building as the Hilton Garden Inn.

The lobby offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

The outdoor patio is small but welcoming.

The business center is just off the lobby.

The Double Queen Suites are modern and homey and can sleep 6.

They have separate, spacious living rooms with sofa beds.

Small dining areas and well-equipped kitchens are also included.

This Suite faces the south and overlooks the Central Library (white building).

The King Studio Suite is also very spacious.

It has a separate living room with a sofa bed…

The bathrooms are large and feature separate shower areas.

The modern restaurant-bar has an appealing décor. It’s an airy space with a huge wall of windows.

The rooftop has 2 BBQs, plenty of seating, and amazing views.

The indoor pool and hot tub are inviting.

At the end of 7th Ave SE (heading east) is a great little playground with rubber surfacing.

Public art installations such as this can be found across downtown.

Studio Bell, National Music Centre showcases musical instruments and has several fun interactive exhibits.

Some rooms act as musical instruments and kids, especially, have lots of fun using their hands and legs to play music.

King Eddy, a restaurant and bar that plays live music, was carefully restored to its century-old glory and is part of Studio Bell now.

Charbar is known for its Argentine wood-fired meat dishes. It’s located in the historic Simmons building.

Phil & Sebastian coffeeshop is in the same building. They roast their own coffee beans on-site and you can watch the process while sipping your java.

Sidewalk Citizen Bakery is also in the Simmons building and serves great light meals.

8 Avenue SW, stretching between 4 Street SW and 1 Street SE is a major pedestrian mall known as Stephen Avenue Walk.

CORE Shopping Centre is huge and features Devonian Gardens as well as free parking.

Devonian Gardens is a huge indoor botanical garden with ponds, waterfall, and children’s play area.

Need a break from shopping? Check out the outdoor green space of Harley Hotchkiss Gardens with benches nestled amongst downtown office towers. Located just across the 7th Ave (CTrain line) from CORE Shopping Centre.

The Saddledome arena hosts many concerts and conferences and is home to the Calgary Flames. It is located on the Calgary Stampede grounds.

Calgary Tower offers fantastic 360-degree views of the city.

Safeway supermarket is popular because it also has an on-site deli, bakery, and Starbucks.

RiverWalk is an attractive 4 km (2.5 miles) urban pathway along the banks of the Bow and Elbow Rivers. It’s a beautiful spot for a stroll or to ride a pedal/electric bike.

Prince’s Island Park is a beautiful and very popular park in downtown Calgary.

If you would rather see the Peace Bridge instead, continue walking west past the pedestrian bridge for about 12 minutes.

Climb the stairs to Crescent Heights for an incredible view of the Calgary downtown skyline.
