The Crowne Plaza Adyar Park hotel offers a tropical resort style pool and spacious rooms.
Crowne Plaza Adyar Park – Suburban oasis that’s spacious, sleek, and sophisticated.
The Crowne Plaza is in a pleasant but characteristically busy area between the airport and downtown. The bland, white, and square exterior belies the luxury within and style throughout: e.g. corridors and stairwells lined with old photos and colonial-style terraces with windows. All rooms and suites are expansive and comfortable, with many overlooking the pool, while others face the road (but all windows are perfectly soundproofed). Situated in the suburbs, the Crowne Plaza can offer more space throughout than downtown rivals, including numerous places to eat/drink, some gardens, and a tropical-style pool surrounded by natural shade and colorful sunbeds. The general area is also more interesting than most, and several pleasant eateries are within a brief stroll.

- Walking: Faces a busy road which isn’t that pleasant for walking, but the side street (TTK Road) is shady and worthy of exploration.
- Public Transport: The metro offers services to both airport terminals, the major train and bus stations, and the city center. The nearest metro stations – Teynampet and Nandanam – are both about 1.5 km from the hotel.
- Taxis & Auto-rickshaws: The black-and-yellow taxis at the airport are nowhere to be seen in the city. Instead, they have been replaced by the app-based Uber and Ola. Plenty of auto-rickshaws around but the drivers won’t use meters, so they usually cost more than Uber or Ola.

Crowne Plaza Adyar Park – The Hotel

The Crowne Plaza dominates this area within the inner southern suburbs.

The unexciting exterior, which is similar to other hotels in this chain, is not indicative of the style and grace throughout.

There are some reminders of the colonial era, such as the terraces that lead to many of the amenities.

Unlike most similar hotels, there are photos and other mementoes of old India around the Crowne Plaza.

Being in the suburbs, there is enough space for some gardens.

At the lobby level is a classy boutique.

The English-style pub at the hotel is given the regal name of Westminster.

The Westminster bar/lounge is spacious and comfortable.

Also at the Crowne Plaza, Cappuccino offers much more than just coffee.

Another restaurant within the hotel is The Residency, renowned across the city for its extensive buffets.

The very elegant Dakshin restaurant at the Crowne Plaza offers cuisine, décor, and music from across southern India.

Yet another restaurant within the hotel is the split-level café, On The Rocks.

Connexions is a bright and airy meeting spot with a patisserie.

Many rooms face away from the main road (although all windows are soundproofed) and overlook the pool and gardens.

The pool is fairly large and sparkling blue.

Natural shade and sunbeds provide a setting similar to a tropical island resort.

The fitness center is spacious and well-equipped.

The immediate area around the hotel is more interesting than around most hotels in Chennai.

A cluster of shops is opposite the main hotel entrance (which faces the side street, not the main road.)

Opposite the hotel along the main road is the well-stocked Amma Naana supermarket.

About 300m along the road (away from the junction) is the familiar Starbucks.

About 50m up the side street from Starbucks, the inviting Tryst Gourmet is a patisserie, coffee shop, and supermarket.

At a junction with a flyover, about 200m past Starbucks, are a cluster of great places, including Café Coffee Day, one in a vast chain across India.

Just up from Café Coffee Day is the Ambrosia Café & Bakery (being renovated in mid-2019).

Next to Ambrosia is the quaint and authentic Hokkaido Japanese restaurant.

Very near the Hokkaido restaurant, Ikkakas Restaurant specializes in cuisine from the state of Kerala.

Barely 100m west of the hotel, and sharing a small building, are a Subway outlet and Fries Station, a funky café with barely enough room for 10 people.

There are always plenty of auto-rickshaws, but drivers won’t use meters, so always bargain.

The metro, with direct services to the airport and other transport hubs, is about 1.5km from the hotel by auto-rickshaw.

The nearest metro station is only 150m away. The metro provides direct links to the airport and city center. Check rates and availability: Crowne Plaza Adyar Park
