Simpsons of Potts Point – Tranquil suburban feel, yet so close to vibrant areas.
Along a leafy side-street, this boutique hotel, originally built in 1892 but renovated extensively since, still exudes charm and history. All Deluxe Rooms are similar – lovingly furnished with tasteful colors, comfortable sofas, lovely bathrooms, and stylish lamps, prints, and curtains. The Superiors are larger while the attic-style Dormer Rooms are more compact and intimate. Adding to the overall ambiance is the Guest Lounge, packed with old-fashioned furniture, as well as a library, chessboard, fireplace, and decanters of (complimentary) port and sherry. A hearty breakfast is a surprising inclusion and served in the airy conservatory. Ideal for couples on an inner-city getaway, there are enough classy bistros nearby and plenty more places to eat, drink, and shop in neighboring Kings Cross. And nearby steps lead to the harbor, dominated by the renovated Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo, which is also lined with sophisticated eateries.

Simpsons of Potts Point – The Hotel

The hotel is in Potts Point, about 500m north of Kings Cross, which has many bars and clubs of dubious quality.

The hotel doesn’t look that old from the outside, but was built in 1892.

The hotel is in the upmarket harbourside suburb of Potts Point, which is lined with marvellously renovated terraced houses.

Even the staircases and corridors add to the overall ambience.

The Guest Lounge contains a library, chess board, and decanters of port.

The Guest Lounge is so elegant and inviting.

Each room is different and individually decorated with tasteful colors and stylish lamps.

With elegant lamps, prints, and curtains, the rooms ooze an old-world charm.

All Deluxe Rooms are lovingly decorated, easily maintaining the charm and elegance of the hotel.

The bathroom is another lovely feature of each room.

From the western end of Challis Avenue (on which the hotel is located), steps lead to the array of cafés along Finger Wharf in Woolloomooloo. A small park at the steps offers views of the city skyline.

Potts Point is connected by ferry to the city center and other harborside suburbs. And the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge dominates the skyline on all ferry trips.

The hotel is just off Victoria Street, which connects the suburb of Potts Point with Kings Cross. These cafés are in a leafy section of the rather seedy area of Kings Cross about 500m south of the hotel.

Some parts of Kings Cross, particularly Victoria Street (which heads north into Potts Point), are pleasant.

But Kings Cross does have a justifiable reputation as a fairly sleazy place, with massage parlors, strip joints, and adults-only shops.
