Capri Hotels – My Tips
- Capri Town vs. Anacapri: The island is divided into two main towns. Capri Town is the glamour hub – home to the Piazzetta, luxury boutiques, and nightlife. It’s busy, expensive, and central. Stay here if you want to be in the middle of the action. (Top Pick: La Minerva). Anacapri is located much higher up the mountain. It is quieter, more rustic, and feels more “local.” It offers better sunsets and easy access to the Monte Solaro chairlift and the Blue Grotto. Stay here for relaxation. (Top Pick: Caesar Augustus).
- The “No Car” Rule: Tourists are generally prohibited from bringing cars to Capri during the season (Easter to November). Even if you could, the towns are pedestrian-only. You must rely on public transport or your feet.
- The Porter Service (Crucial Tip): When you arrive at Marina Grande (the port), do not attempt to drag your luggage onto the funicular or the tiny public buses. Look for the Cooperativa Portuali (Porter Service) kiosk on the dock. They will tag your bags and transport them directly to your hotel room for a fee (approx. €10–€15 per bag). It’s worth every penny to arrive at your hotel stress-free.
- Getting Around:
The Funicular: Connects the Port to the Piazzetta (Capri Town center) in 5 minutes.
The Bus: Small orange buses connect Capri Town, Anacapri, and the marinas. They are cheap but get incredibly crowded in summer.
Taxis: The famous open-top convertible taxis are iconic and efficient, though expensive. A ride from the port to Anacapri can cost €30+.- Beaches: Capri is not a sandy beach destination. Most swimming is done at “Beach Clubs” (Lidos) set on rocky platforms or pebble coves. Marina Piccola (on the south side) has the best views of the Faraglioni rocks and is sheltered from the wind. Marina Grande has the largest pebble beach but is busy with boat traffic.
- Blue Grotto Advice: The famous Blue Grotto is often closed due to rough seas. If it’s a priority, go first thing in the morning (9:00 am) to avoid the long midday queue of tour boats. You can reach it by bus/taxi from Anacapri or by boat from Marina Grande.
