• Our Favorite Beaches in CorfuCorfu (known as Kerkyra in Greek) is Greece’s 7th largest island, and Corfu Town is the island’s bustling capital. Incredibly scenic with forested hills and fantastic turquoise-water beaches, Corfu offers a wide range of accommodations to suit every traveler. Resort areas on the east coast like Dassia and Ipsos are family-friendly, with Ipsos having a little more nightlife of the two. West coast resorts typically have long golden sand beaches, like the island’s famous Paleokastritsa Beach, popular for couples and romantic getaways.
Corfu Town – more a vibrant small city than a sleepy town – features a wonderful blend of historic architecture, numerous museums, centuries old palaces, modern boutique shopping, and excellent traditional tavernas. Corfu Town has the largest harbor of all the islands in the Ionian Sea, with two ferry passenger terminals (one domestic and one international with a cruise ship port).

Corfu Town is a charming small city and a wonderful base for exploring all of Corfu. It’s about a 5-minute drive from the center of Corfu Town to both the ferry terminal and Corfu International Airport (Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport).
To best explore the island, rent a car. If you plan to stay only in Corfu Town, however, it’s easier to walk, bus, or taxi around the city as the roads in Corfu Town are often congested and can be a challenge to maneuver in a vehicle along its narrow and busy roads.
Corfu’s peak tourist season in July and August, its Mediterranean climate boasting hot and sunny summers and warm seas. The shoulder season of May, June, September, and October offer pleasantly warm temperatures that are ideal for exploring the island. Corfu’s capital, Corfu Town, has a permanent population of 40,000 and many hotels are open year-round.

Located on Corfu’s east coast, Gouvia is a low-key village with a marina – a 10 min drive to Corfu Town. The modern town somewhat lacks the character found in other villages, and the small but pleasant beach area is comparatively lackluster (there is sometimes minor flooding on the beach as the tide comes in). Still, it offers a range of restaurants and an excellent base for exploring nearby attractions like the Venetian Arsenal and Corfu Town.
