Do I need a rental car for Kelowna and the Okanagan?
A rental car makes exploring Kelowna, the Okanagan, and the numerous lakes and wineries much easier and more enjoyable. Public transportation is fine for getting between the main cities but anything apart from the downtown destinations is slow or non-existent. A rental car is close to a necessity for the region. The rental car parking lot is directly opposite the airport terminal and steps from both Arrivals and Departures.
The rental cars from Enterprise, Hertz, Budget, and Avis are all in the same parking lot – literally a 30-second walk from the terminal.
After you confirm your reservation and get the rental car keys exit the doors just to the right of the rental car kiosks …
… Or walk through the terminal to the left of the kiosks.
Follow signs for the Car Rental Lot …
… And exit at any door – they’re all steps from the rental car pick up lot.
Directions for the rental car lot, taxi line, and shuttle buses are outside all entrances.
If you have a lot of luggage there are free carts just outside the exits.
Rental car pick up and drop off are at the same parking lot. For drop off use the main highway exit for the Kelowna Airport and follow signs to the rental car lot. Departures is a very short walk from the drop off lot.
Many Okanagan wineries are within a short drive of the Kelowna airport – the closest is just 2 km to the east.
Downtown Kelowna is 15 km southwest of Kelowna International Airport. Vernon, Peachland, Summerland, Pentiction, Naramata, Oliver, and Osoyoos are all within a 2 hour drive of Kelowna airport.
