Where to Stay in Singapore for Families
These 3 main areas of Singapore are the best places to stay with kids.
- Orchard Road – Most popular for tourists, great for big shopping malls and sidewalk shopping. Large chain hotels are well represented here.
- Marina Bay – Mainly for business travelers who need to be close to the Suntec and Sand’s convetion centers (though Singapore is pushing to expand the appeal of the area as a 24/7 destination).
- Sentosa – A nearby island filled with theme park attractions, beach activities, 2 golf courses, Universal Studios, bars, restaurants, and several luxury resorts.
Hi, we are a family of four heading to Singapore in December staying about 8 nights. With a 2 year old and 7 year old, we’re looking to spend some time in the city although the main intent is to relax in a quality resort that caters specifically for families with young children. We’re hoping to take advantage of kids clubs (and babysitting on occasion), have access to good food, spend plenty of time by the pool with the kids and be close enough to explore all Sentosa has to offer (Universal, the Zoo, Resorts World, Waterparks etc ). Would you recommend Shangri La Sentosa or Hard Rock (or another altogether?) and if we were to add another hotel for staying in Singapore itself, which hotel would you stay in and for how long? Thank you so much for your advice!
Kelly
Definitely stay at the Shangri La’s Rasa Sentosa! They have the biggest and best kids club on the island, plus an outstanding pool with water slides and a splash pad. Babysitting is available and highly recommended for their care and attention. The restaurants are excellent and with a good variety, from Italian to Chinese, along with an international buffet with different regional foods nightly. They even have a Baby Zone inside the buffet restaurant with food and amenities specifically for little ones.
This is the only beachfront resort on Sentosa, right on Siloso Beach, with plenty of fun water activities. It’s right next door to Siloso Beach Station, where you can catch the free bus or monorail to family-centric Palawan Beach and all of the island’s attractions. For visiting the mainland, Shangri La offers a free shuttle directly to Vivo City mall on the south side of the city proper. From there you can reach all of the city’s attractions within 15 to 30 minutes max via their extremely user friendly public transportation. They make it very easy for their guests to fully experience Singapore from their ideal island locale. You do not need to change hotels at all.
The main downside to staying in the city is that there tend to be no kids clubs and fewer kid-specific amenities. The trade-off is that you’re closer to the city’s attractions, like the Merlion, Marina, Chinatown, and the National Museum. To shake up your vacation for two or three nights, try the Shangri La Singapore. They offer a fantastic pool, superb breakfast, and a great location for exploring the city. Also consider Hotel Fort Canning; this luxurious, family-friendly boutique hotel sits in the middle of a national park known for its lush rainforest, botanical gardens, and spice garden. Food, service, and rooms are all exceptional, plus it has two pools (one for kids).
Is it recommended to stay some time in Singapore and some nights in Sentosa Island or stay in the same place and use public transport?
Rach
If you have more than 4 nights or more then do a night or two in Sentosa. If you only have 3 nights then spend them all in Singapore.
Hello,
I’m trying to pick a destination to tag along to our trip to mumbai. I’ve narrowed it down to either Singapore, Phuket, or Kuala Lumpur for about 4 days for 2 adults, 3 yr old, and 1 yr old. Which is the better option? Suggestions of areas will be greatly appreciated. Arti
Singapore for shopping and attractions (zoo, waterparks, and night safari). Phuket (the towns of Kata and Karon) for beaches and playing in the pool. KL is a great place (wonderful food) but not as much for kids as Singapore and Phuket.
We are a family of 5 and travel Asia regularly. Bookings.com is the best site we’ve found which allows us to book interconnecting rooms for 5 and affordable prices. AirBnB can be an option too, just research well. We’ve been to all the places you’ve mentioned and they are great – you will have a ball if you go!

Hi, we are a family of 5; 2 adults & 3 kids 9yrs, 12yrs and 14 yrs. We are planning our first overseas trip from South Africa. We were thinking of 5 nights in Hong Kong, 6 nights in Phuket, 5 nights in Singapore, and 5 nights in Kuala Lumpur in December. We are trying to do all the booking ourselves to save costs. I am struggling to find accommodation for 5 of us in most places. Any suggestions please for 3 to 4 star options. And does our itinerary sound reasonable? Would you add or change anything?
Adeela
I would probably cut a few days off of Kuala Lumpur and add those to Phuket – or maybe add Penang to your route. But, in general, it looks like a great trip.
Hi,
What hotel pool is the photo from the top of the page?
