The Sofitel Athens Airport Hotel as seen from the Departures level of the Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos). It’s about a two-minute walk from the terminal to the hotel. The Sofitel is the only hotel located at the Athens airport.
Athens Airport – My Tips
- 1. The Only Hotel Actually “At” the Airport
The Sofitel Athens Airport is the only hotel located directly across from the terminal building. It is unbeatable for convenience.
• Location: Steps from the Arrivals Hall exit to the hotel lobby. No shuttle, taxi, or long walks required.
• Best For: Travelers with late-night arrivals, very early departures, or long layovers who want zero stress.
• Day Use: They offer day rates (for stays between 12pm and 6pm) if you just need a nap and a shower between flights.- 2. The Closest Alternative (With Shuttle)
The next closest full-service hotel is the Holiday Inn Athens Attica Avenue. It is a solid, reliable choice if the Sofitel is booked or over budget.
• Distance: It is about 13km away, which is a 10-15 minute drive on the highway.
• The Shuttle: The hotel provides a free shuttle bus that runs 24/7 between the airport and the hotel. The shuttle stops outside the Arrivals Hall.
• Warning: Do not confuse this with the “Holiday Inn Athens” in the city center. Make sure you book the “Attica Avenue” location.- 3. Beach, Port, or City?
If you aren’t staying at the Sofitel or Holiday Inn, your best location depends entirely on your next move.
• For Rafina Ferries: Stay in Rafina. It is a 25-minute drive from the airport and the second-largest port in Attica. It’s the best base for catching morning ferries to Mykonos, Tinos, or Andros without going into downtown Athens.
• For Piraeus Ferries: I generally prefer spending the night in central Athens for the food and views, but staying in Piraeus is reasonable for morning ferries to save yourself an early metro or taxi ride. The Port Square Hotel is the best option right at the port (steps from the metro and gates). The Alex is a stylish boutique alternative in the nearby Kastella neighborhood.
• For Sightseeing: Stay in central Athens near a direct Metro station. A for Athens is my top pick because it’s located steps from the Monastiraki Metro Station – which has direct trains to both the airport and the Piraeus ferry port.
• For Relaxation: Stay on the Athens Riviera. A seaside area 20-30 minutes from the airport where you can spend your layover on a beach rather than in a hotel room.7 Best Hotels near Athens Airport

• 1 restaurant (open 24 hours). Room service 6:30am to midnight.3. Galini Palace – Budget
• Good value hotel located on the Athens Riviera, 17 km south of central Athens.
• 20 minute, 21 km drive from the airport.
• X96 airport bus stops directly in front of the hotel.
• Taxi from Galini Hotel to Athens Airport: about 30 minutes, 35-40€.
• Sea View rooms have nice views but also face a noisy road.
• About an hour by inexpensive public transportation to central Athens and Piraeus ferry port.
• Good restaurants and swimming beaches are within an easy walk.
• Free parking.
• Free breakfast – simple buffet with pastries, fruit, toast, coffee, etc.4. Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso – Luxury
• Great resort located on the Athens Riviera, 18 km south of central Athens.
• Wonderful private beach, sea swimming, indoor and outdoor pools.
• Many restaurants and lots of shopping nearby.
• 12-minute walk on busy road to X96 airport bus.
• Underground valet parking for a fee.
• Taxi from Divani Hotel to Athens Airport: about 30 minutes, 35-40€.
• Free shuttle to Glyfada shopping area and central Athens but not to airport.5. Four Seasons Astir Palace – Luxury
• Sprawling 5-star luxury resort on the Athens Riviera, 22 km south of central Athens.
• Outstanding facilities and amenities. Most units have a sea view.

• Breakfast starts at 6 am (perfect for most ferry departures).
• 5-minute walk, 400m, to the ferry port.
