Greece › Athens › Best Rooftop Pools
By Santorini Dave

The view of the Acropolis from the rooftop pool at The Dolli Hotel.
A rooftop pool is one of the best features a hotel in Athens can offer. There is nothing better than cooling off after a hot day of sightseeing with a direct view of the Acropolis.
What You Must Know
• Seasonality is Key: This is the most critical point. Almost all rooftop pools in Athens are seasonal. They are typically open from May to October and are closed for the entire winter. If you are traveling in April or November, do not assume the pool will be open.
• Guest Access Only: These pools are almost always for hotel guests only. Non-guests can usually visit the attached rooftop bar or restaurant, but pool access is a private amenity.
• Size vs. View: Most rooftop pools in central Athens are small. They are designed for cooling off and enjoying the view, not for swimming laps. The view is the real luxury.
Best Hotels with Rooftop Pools & Acropolis Views
These are my top choices where the pool and the view are the main event. They are located in the best central neighborhoods of Plaka and Syntagma.
The Dolli (Plaka): This is my top pick for the best overall pool-and-view combination. A spectacular 5-star boutique hotel with an exceptional rooftop infinity pool. The view of the Parthenon is direct and feels incredibly close. The pool is heated, giving it a longer useable season than most.
Electra Metropolis (Syntagma/Plaka): A modern 4-star hotel with a small rooftop pool. The restaurant portion of the deck has a direct and unobstructed view of the Acropolis.
Electra Palace Hotel (Plaka): The best choice if you want to be deep in the charming, village-like streets of Plaka. It has a nice rooftop pool and bar area with amazing, classic views of the Acropolis.
Other Great Rooftop Pool Options

The rooftop pool at the Grande Bretagne.
Grande Bretagne (Syntagma): My favorite hotel in Athens. A landmark on Syntagma Square. Its awesome rooftop restaurant and bar have iconic (but a bit distant) views across to the Parthenon. The rooftop pool is on the same level but is set back in a separate area and does not share the Acropolis view.
The Stanley (Metaxourgeio): This hotel boasts the largest rooftop terrace in Athens, with a very large pool. While it is not located in the central tourist triangle (Plaka/Syntagma), it is right at a metro stop for very easy access. The panoramic view from the roof is incredible, offering a complete look over the city, including a great (though distant) view of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. A fantastic value option.
Wyndham Grand Athens (Metaxourgeio): Also in the same area, this modern hotel has a small rooftop pool (water does not seemed to be heated at all) with a solid panoramic view that includes the Acropolis.
President Hotel (Ampelokipoi): This hotel is further from the center, but it features the highest hotel rooftop pool in all of Athens. The view is not of the Acropolis so much as it is a complete 360-degree panorama of the entire city, with the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill as part of the skyline.
