Athens Hotels with Rooftop Pools: My Advice
A rooftop pool is one of the best hotel features in Athens, especially after a hot day at the Acropolis. But the details matter. Some hotels have a real rooftop pool scene with Acropolis views. Others have a small plunge pool, a partial view, or a rooftop restaurant where the view is much better than the pool. And a small handful have private pools or plunge pools.
- Most rooftop pools are seasonal. May to October is the usual window, but opening dates vary by hotel and weather. If you are traveling in April, late October, or November, confirm directly before booking.
- Most pools are for hotel guests only. Non-guests can often visit the rooftop bar or restaurant, but pool access is usually private.
- Most central Athens rooftop pools are small. They are for cooling off, not swimming laps. The view, setting, and location are the real luxury.
- Check whether the pool itself has the view. Some hotels have an Acropolis-view rooftop restaurant but a pool facing another direction. That can still be a great hotel, but it is not the same experience.
- Book early for June through September. Rooftop pools, central locations, and Acropolis views are the combination everyone wants. The best rooms and hotels sell out months ahead.
Best Athens Hotels with Rooftop Pools

The rooftop pool at the Electra Metropolis with Lycabettus Hill in the background.
- 1. The Dolli (Monastiraki/Plaka border): The best rooftop pool in Athens if the pool and Acropolis view are the main reason you are booking. The infinity pool is small but spectacular, with the Parthenon feeling close enough to touch. Expensive, yes, but no other Athens hotel does the pool-and-view combination quite as well.
- 2. Electra Palace Hotel (Plaka): The best choice if you want a rooftop pool and to stay deep in Plaka. The hotel is traditional and full-service, with classic Acropolis views from the rooftop area and an unbeatable location for first-time sightseeing. Less flashy than The Dolli, but easier to recommend for a wider range of travelers.
- 3. Electra Metropolis (Syntagma): The best modern Syntagma hotel with a rooftop pool. The rooms are sleek, the location is very practical, and the rooftop restaurant has an excellent direct Acropolis view. The pool itself faces more toward Lycabettus and the city, so book this for the overall rooftop experience, not for a poolside Parthenon view.
- 4. Grande Bretagne (Syntagma): My favorite hotel in Athens and the city’s grand classic. The rooftop restaurant and bar have iconic Acropolis views, though from more of a distance than the Plaka and Monastiraki hotels. The rooftop pool is on the same level but faces more toward Lycabettus Hill and the city. Book it for luxury, service, history, and location, not because it has the closest pool view of the Parthenon.

- 5. Athens Capital Center Hotel – MGallery (Syntagma/Kolonaki): A polished 5-star hotel with a rooftop pool and bar just off Syntagma Square. The location is excellent for shopping, museums, taxis, airport access, and Kolonaki cafes. The pool area has city and Acropolis views, though not the close-up drama of The Dolli or Electra Palace. A strong choice if you want modern luxury and a central location without staying in Plaka or Monastiraki.
- 6. The Stanley (Metaxourgeio): The best-value rooftop pool hotel in Athens. The rooftop terrace is large by Athens standards, the pool is more usable than most central rooftop pools, and the views stretch across the city to the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill. The tradeoff is location. Metaxourgeio is not as pretty or tourist-friendly as Plaka, Syntagma, or Monastiraki, but the hotel is right by the metro.
- 7. Fresh Hotel (Central Market/Omonia edge): A good-value design hotel with a seasonal rooftop pool and city views toward the Parthenon. The hotel is better than the immediate area, which is urban, busy, and not especially pretty. Book it for value, design, and a pool. Skip it if you want a soft first-time Athens setting or easy Plaka-style charm.
- 8. Wyndham Grand Athens (Metaxourgeio): A modern hotel with a rooftop pool and strong panoramic views across Athens, including the Acropolis from parts of the rooftop. The pool is smaller and less atmospheric than The Stanley’s, but the hotel has a more polished business-hotel feel. Good if you want facilities and value more than a charming neighborhood.
- 9. President Hotel (Ampelokipoi): Farther from the historic center, but notable for one of the highest rooftop pools in Athens. The view is a broad city panorama rather than a close Acropolis view, with Lycabettus and the Acropolis as part of the skyline. This is not my first choice for a short first visit, but it can work if you want a big hotel, a proper pool, and better value away from the tourist core.
How to Choose

The rooftop pool with Acropolis view at the Athens Capital Center Hotel – MGallery.
- Book The Dolli if the rooftop pool and close Acropolis view are the main event.
- Book Electra Palace if you want Plaka charm, a central location, and a rooftop pool with classic Acropolis views.
- Book Electra Metropolis if you want modern rooms, Syntagma convenience, and a strong rooftop restaurant scene.
- Book Grande Bretagne if you want the best classic luxury hotel in Athens. The pool is lovely, but the hotel itself is the reason to stay.
- Book Athens Capital Center Hotel – MGallery if you want a newer luxury hotel near Syntagma and Kolonaki with a rooftop pool and a polished city feel.
- Book The Stanley if you want the biggest, most useful rooftop pool at a better price and do not mind staying outside the prettiest part of central Athens.
- Book Fresh Hotel if you want a stylish, good-value hotel with a rooftop pool and are comfortable with a grittier central-market location.
