Antiparos is a beautiful and low-key island west of Paros. It has several pristine beaches such as Livadia, pictured here.

Antiparos is a charming small island located just 8 kilometers southwest of its larger neighbor, Paros. It’s easy to get to Antiparos from Paros via the car-and-passenger ferry that departs from from Pounta (year-round) or the passenger-only ferry from Parikia (summer only).

Known for its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful natural landscapes, Antiparos offers a more tranquil alternative to some of the busier Cycladic islands. The island features picturesque white-washed houses, narrow cobblestone streets, and stunning sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters. From Agios Georgios Beach, regular daily boat tours depart to the nearby even smaller island of Despotiko, where there is an archaeological site of a Temple dedicated to Apollo that dates back to the 6th century BC.

One of Antiparos’ main attractions is the deep and ancient Antiparos Cave, which is adorned with impressive stalactites and stalagmites and has a rich history dating back to antiquity. Reaching 85 meters deep, it is the only vertical cave in Europe.

The main village, Antiparos Town (or Chora), houses local shops, traditional tavernas, and vibrant nightlife that retains an authentic Greek charm. This is also where the vast majority of the island’s hotels and guesthouses are located.

How to get to Antiparos from Paros

Cars departing a ferry boat at a pier on a Greek island.

The car-and-passenger ferry from Pounta. After driving onto the ferry (cars must back in), you pay on board the boat.

  • Antiparos is accessible from Paros via two ferry ports: the smaller Pounta port and the main ferry port at Parikia. We recommend taking the Pounta ferry as it operates more frequently and is a shorter boat ride compared with the Parikia ferry. The Pounta ferry allows cars, while the Parikia ferry does not.
  • The Pounta ferry operates daily, year-round; departing every 30-45 minutes from 7am to around midnight. Crossing the narrow strait between Pounta and Antiparos takes only 7 minutes. You can get to Pounta by taxi, or by bus from Parikia. The bus station at Parikia is about 200 yards south of the ferry port, to the left as you are facing the water. The #4 Pounta/Antiparos bus runs about every hour; tickets are sold at the terminal kiosk. Check here for Paros bus timetable and fare information.
  • The passenger-only Parikia ferry to Antiparos operates only during the summer, running multiple times each day. Sailings are timed to coincide with ferry arrivals at the Parikia Port, weather permitting. As these are very small boats, they are sometimes canceled even when the large ferries are operating.
  • We recommend renting a car in Paros when staying in Antiparos (if you want to explore Antiparos Island). Bus service on Antiparos is very limited. With a car you can get outside of Antiparos Town to access the beautiful southern end of the island, as beaches are off the bus route.
