luxury hotel in the 6th Paris

The elegant and luxurious Relais Christine hotel in Paris’ 6th Arrondissement.

Relais Christine – A luxury boutique hotel located on a quiet side street in Saint Germain des Pres. A hidden gem, set inside a former abbey and accessed through a beautiful ivy-covered courtyard. Original details of the former abbey remain, such as vaulted cave ceilings in the breakfast room. In the morning, there’s homemade honey from bees that frequent the hotel’s garden. Rooms have been recently updated with patterned fabrics and walls that mix and matched to create a classic, yet vibrant, look. Lounge areas are more traditional, with painted portraits displayed and a cozy fireplace. The Relais Christine provides an oasis of calm in one of Paris’ most bustling neighborhoods, especially for those who book one of their popular garden suites – each with a private terrace that opens directly onto the hotel garden.

Relais Christine – The Hotel

The boutique Relais Christine hotel is located in the heart of St Germain De Pres on Paris’ Left Bank.

The hotel is set amid bustling shops, galleries, and restaurants, but tucked away on Rue Christine, a quiet side street.

A former abbey, Relais Christine is accessed through a beautiful garden courtyard.

The main entrance leads to this elegant reception area.

Next to an elaborate mural, stairs lead down to Spa Guerlain, located in the 13th-century vaults below the hotel. Spa Guerlain features a jacuzzi, sauna, exercise room, and two private treatment rooms – one is a double.

Beyond reception, the main floor of the hotel is made up of many comfortable and well-appointed lounge areas.

These cozy spaces feature fireplaces…

…displayed artwork…

…and tabletop games for guest use.

There’s also an honesty bar, where guests can mix their own drinks.

This is the courtyard view upon exiting the hotel. On the left you can see a few trellis-covered garden seating areas.

Directly across from the hotel, there is a small movie theater that plays classic American and foreign films (with subtitles).

Just around the corner, you’ll find the Mariage Frères Tea Shop…

…with an assortment of its famous teas for sale on the main floor,

…and a tearoom above – a perfect spot for brunch or a light lunch.

Many of Paris’ most famous and best-loved restaurants are located nearby. Le Procope has the distinction of being the city’s oldest restaurant. It’s a short 3-minute walk away.

Cafe de Flore, the famous hangout of Picasso, Sartre, Hemingway, and Capote is 10 minutes away on foot…

…sitting just across the street from its historical rival, Les Deux Magots…

…and on the same block as the famous steak frites joint, Le Relais de l’Entrecôte.

There are some fantastic newer restaurants in the immediate area, as well. The French-Asian fusion cuisine of Ze Kitchen Gallerie is 2 minutes from the hotel.

And modern French favorite, Semilla, is just 4 minutes away.

Next door to Semilla, find Freddy’s – a friendly and casual wine bar with an excellent tapas menu.

Or head a few blocks south to L’Avant Comptoir de la Mer, for champagne and oysters. A 5-minute walk from the hotel.

Relais Christine is excellently located for sightseeing. It’s a 4-minute walk to Pont Neuf and the Siene River.

…and a 10-minute walk across the Seine (via the Pont des Arts, seen here) to the Louvre museum.

The famous bookstore, Shakespeare and Company, is 9 minutes from the hotel…

…with Notre Dame Cathedral sitting just across the Seine, a 12-minute walk from Relais Christine.

For something different, check out Deyrolle. It’s a posh garden store on the main floor, with a sprawling and museum-like taxidermy shop up above. 16 minutes west of the hotel.

Or walk 10 minutes southeast to visit the Cluny Museum’s impressive collection of medieval art.
