XO Hotel in central Amsterdam. We found the hotel really lovely and it is located in the museum district in Amsterdam. 4 minute walks from the Van Gogh museum and 10 minutes from the Rijksmuseum. Really beautiful and quiet area. Direct trams to Amsterdam central and can catch a bus to the airport as well.

I stayed in the Canal House Hotel in Amsterdam. The rooms and grounds were beautiful. The staff was accommodating, even serving us a bottle of wine when we arrived, way past bar closing time. The food was wonderful, and the location made walking to many sites easy.

Banks Mansion Hotel is a great choice for a boutique hotel. Super comfortable beds and choice of premium pillows. The lobby has a nice free minibar and a wine and cheese hour each evening. A full breakfast is included too. Banks Mansion is on the tram line and is close to the museum district too. Highly recommended.

Favorite hotel in Amsterdam is the Canal House. Located in the Joordan, It is a few blocks from the Anne Frank house. The rooms either face the beautiful views of the canals or the lovely garden in the back. A wonderful free breakfast is included in the stay. Staff is warm and friendly and the bath amenities are top of the line.

I loved the XO Van Gogh in Amsterdam. Just across the street from the Van Gogh Museum, half a block from a tram stop, and two blocks from the inexpensive airport express bus (which takes credit cards for payment of fare). Excellent and bountiful breakfast, nice clean rooms, very helpful front desk staff, and not expensive.

I love the canal view rooms at the Ambassade. Great staff. Excellent breakfast. Very comfortable spacious room. Great art in very nice common spaces.

Amsterdam has become increasingly expensive over the years. The hotels often charge well over 200 Euros a night not including breakfast. If you would like better value for money you should look further a field in cities like Haarlem or even The Hague or Utrecht. My personal fave is Utrecht. It’s like a mini Amsterda, minus the hordes of tourists and high prices. 😉

Our favorite was the Pulitzer until we recently discovered Andaz. It’s nearby on the same street and a lot more contemporary with larger rooms and more complimentary amenities such as bicycles on site, espresso and cookies in the lobby and a lovely and included breakfast all for less $$$. We will definitely return to Andaz.

The Dylan – modern boutique luxury hotel
Lloyd Hotel – wonderful design hotel
Sofitel The Legend Amsterdam – great location, close to the main train station. Fabulous building.
Amstel Hotel – beautiful setting on a canal, great hotel.
Pulitzer Amsterdam – the best hotel in the Jordaan. Classy and luxurious.

I’m partial to boutique hotels and my favorites in Amsterdam are the Estherea, Pulitzer, and Dylan. The Okura is not a boutique (too big) but so gorgeously luxurious with a beautiful setting that it feels like one to me.
