Reader Reviews: What is the best hotel in Tokyo?

Park Hyatt Tokyo – my favorite hotel in the world.

We had a great time in Tokyo at the Best Western Hotel Fino Tokyo Akihabara. Good value for money and great location. Really nice neighborhood, busy but not chaotic. Walking distance to both Akihabara and Ueno. Excellent train and metro connections.

Hoshinoya for superb Japanese elegance in a traditonal setting. The Four Seasons for a luxury hotel in a great location.

The Park Hyatt (great views, fabulous bar/restaurant, amazing pool and exercise area) and the Grand Hyatt (great choice of restaurants, huge pool, great location near shopping) are my two favorites. The Four Seasons is more of a boutique and steps from Tokyo Station if you’re taking the train to Kyoto. Also has a wonderful Japanese bath for each gender. The Shangri-La has a similar location, feels slightly less luxurious, but does have a nice pool.

If possible stay in a Traditional Japanese Ryokan. The two best ryokan in Tokyo are Hoshinoya (luxury) and Sadachiyo (mid-range). Both are special places to stay.

Hotel Sunroute if in Hiroshima.

The location is to-die-for, literally across the street from the Peace Park / Atomic Dome / Peace Memorial + Museum. They have family rooms in which four can comfortably sleep (and which are good-sized for Japanese hotel rooms), and the family rooms offer the best views (the Atomic Dome is across from the family rooms). There is a complimentary daily breakfast where the staff could not be nicer and the selection of foods, both Japanese and some western, is extensive and well and freshly made.
