Naoussa is a lovely fishing village toward the north of the island. Its most characteristic feature is the ancient Venetian Castle by the Old Port.
Naoussa is the best place to stay in Paros for boutique hotels, restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and a romantic Cycladic village atmosphere. It is the prettiest town on the island and my favorite base for couples, honeymooners, and travelers who want to walk to dinner and drinks. It is also the most expensive and crowded place to stay in Paros, especially in July and August.
The best Naoussa hotels fall into three groups: beach-adjacent luxury hotels near Agioi Anargyroi or Piperi, small boutique hotels close to the lanes and Old Port, and quieter edge-of-town hotels with pools and views. The right choice depends on whether you want to be steps from nightlife, close to a beach, or slightly removed from the crowds.
Naoussa is not the best base for every traveler. If you want the easiest ferry logistics, better value, and the best bus connections, stay in Parikia. If you want a quiet beach holiday with young kids, look at Aliki, Piso Livadi, Logaras, or Golden Beach. If you want charm, restaurants, and a lively evening scene, Naoussa is hard to beat.
Staying in Naoussa – My Tips
- 1. Book hotels, cars, and key dinners early.
Naoussa is no longer a quiet fishing village that happens to have a few good restaurants. It is the most sought-after base on Paros, and prices reflect that. For July and August, book the best hotels 4 to 6 months in advance, earlier for top luxury hotels, sea-view rooms, family rooms, private pools, and walkable locations. Rental cars also sell out, especially automatics. For the top restaurants, reserve a few days ahead, longer for peak dates. That said, some of my favorite places in Naoussa are casual backstreet spots that do not take reservations, so leave room for flexibility.- 2. Understand Naoussa’s hotel geography.
The prettiest lanes and Old Port are in the village center, but hotels here are small and can be noisy at night. Piperi Beach, on the west side of town, is good for sea views, sunset light, and easy walking access. Agioi Anargyroi Beach, on the east side, is best for beach-adjacent luxury hotels and quieter nights while still being walkable to dinner. Hotels farther uphill or outside the village can be excellent, but only if you are happy using a car, shuttle, or taxi.- 3. Use mornings for the village, evenings for atmosphere.
Naoussa is at its best twice a day, and for very different reasons. In the morning, it is quiet, bright, and easy to explore. This is when I like wandering the lanes, getting coffee, browsing shops, and photographing the harbor before the crowds arrive. At night, the village becomes one of the best dining and nightlife scenes in the Cyclades. It is busy, stylish, and fun, but not peaceful. If you want the pretty version of Naoussa, go early. If you want the social version, go after sunset.- 4. Do one harbor dinner, then eat in the backstreets.
The tiny Old Venetian Harbor is the postcard setting, and it is worth doing at least once. It is where you go for a romantic, special-occasion dinner and the full Naoussa scene. But the best food is not always on the water. Some of the more interesting, better-value, and more local-feeling restaurants are tucked into the lanes behind the harbor. My advice is to mix it up: one scenic harbor meal, then spend the rest of your dinners exploring the backstreets.- 5. Stay just outside the center for pools, quiet, and easier logistics.
The heart of Naoussa is a pedestrian-only maze. It is charming, but it can be noisy late at night, and many hotels in the center are small, compact, and without pools. For most travelers, the sweet spot is just outside the center, especially near Piperi Beach, Agioi Anargyroi Beach, on the hillside behind town, or along the immediate edge of the village.- 6. Be careful with “near Naoussa.”
Some excellent hotels sit just outside town, but not every short distance is a pleasant walk. A hotel that looks 12 or 15 minutes from the harbor on Google Maps might involve a dark road, no sidewalk, and fast traffic at night. That is fine if you have a car or are happy using taxis, but it is not ideal if you expect easy evening strolls. If walking into Naoussa every night matters, choose a hotel on a safe, obvious route into town, not simply one that looks close on a map.- 7. Do not rely too much on taxis.
Taxis are limited on Paros, and Naoussa is where demand is highest. In July and August, getting a taxi after dinner or from a beach club can be frustrating. For airport transfers, late ferry arrivals, weddings, or early departures, book ahead. If you are staying outside easy walking distance of the harbor, ask your hotel exactly how transfers work at night.- 8. Use water taxis for Naoussa’s best nearby beaches.
Naoussa has two small town beaches, Piperi and Agioi Anargyroi, but the best swimming is around the bay. In summer, small boats leave from the harbor for beaches such as Kolymbithres and Monastiri, and this is the easiest and most enjoyable way to reach them. Kolymbithres is the most famous, with smooth granite rocks and small sandy coves. Monastiri is better for a fuller beach day, with facilities, a beach club, and nearby walking trails. Check the day’s return times before you go.- 9. Visit Parikia, but do not treat it as an afterthought.
Many travelers stay in Naoussa and only pass through Parikia for the ferry. That is a mistake. Parikia has a lovely old town, good restaurants, better local shopping, the main port, the bus hub, and easy access to Antiparos. It is less polished than Naoussa but more useful and more grounded. Go for a late afternoon wander, dinner, or a full day built around Antiparos.

It is a good option for couples, solo travelers, and practical travelers who care more about location and value than pools and design.
Where to Stay in Naoussa
- Old Port and village center: Best for restaurants, bars, shopping, and atmosphere. Most fun, but also the noisiest and most crowded area in peak season.
- Piperi Beach side: Best for views, sunset light, and easy walking access to Naoussa. Good for couples who want a calmer base without losing convenience.
- Agioi Anargyroi Beach side: Best for beach-adjacent hotels, quieter nights, and luxury stays such as Cosme and Cove. Still walkable to the harbor for most travelers.
- Hillside behind town: Best for views, pools, and quieter hotels. Walking routes vary, so check the map carefully before booking.
- Outside Naoussa: Best for space, villas, and resort-style stays. Do this with a car or a hotel shuttle plan, not if you expect easy nightly walks into town.
Naoussa Hotel Booking Advice
- Book early for summer. The best Naoussa hotels fill quickly for June through September, especially sea-view rooms, suites, family rooms, and hotels close to the village.
- Check the exact walking route. “10 minutes from Naoussa” can mean a pleasant stroll or a dark road with no sidewalk. This matters most for dinner and nightlife.
- Do not assume beach means great swimming. Piperi and Agioi Anargyroi are useful town beaches, but the best beach days are Kolymbithres, Monastiri, Santa Maria, Golden Beach, or Antiparos.
- Light sleepers should avoid the center. Naoussa is lively at night. Stay near Piperi, Agioi Anargyroi, or just outside town if quiet matters.
- Families should prioritize space and walking safety. Naoussa can work well with kids, but check room layouts, pool access, and whether the walk to town is stroller-friendly and well lit.
- Plan transfers in advance. Ferries arrive in Parikia, not Naoussa. Airport and port transfers should be arranged ahead in July and August.
