1. Mykonos Resort for Honeymoon

   Hi Dave – I am deciding between three Mykonos resorts for my honeymoon in late September. Mykonos Blanc (Honeymoon Suite), Anax (Luxury Beachfront Suite) and Bill & Coo Coastal (Bachelor Coast Suite). Looking for good vibes, great service, and the ability to conveniently swim in the sea. How would you rank these options? Willing to pay the premium for Bill & Coo Coastal but only if it’s the clear-cut winner by a meaningful margin.

      These are all amazing hotels with a high-end luxury vibe and great service but very different beaches. For convenience to the beach and good swimming, Mykonos Blanc is the best option; it sits at the end of sandy Ornos Beach (a popular spot for sure, but shouldn’t be too crazy crowded at the end of September). Bill & Coo Coast has the next best beach, though the spot immediately in front of the rooms is a little rocky (walk down to the restaurant end in front of Beefbar for a sandier spot). Anax is built down a cliff with a lot of stairs to reach the beach; the beach itself is fairly rocky and small in that area. Great pool, though!

2. Hotel Grace vs Harmony Boutique Hotel

   Hi Dave,
   Could you suggest which would be a better option. Hotel Grace Mykonos or Harmony Boutique Hotel. I read about your recommendation about staying in Mykonos town. My concern is whether Hotel Grace would be too far to travel to Mykonos town at night and the difficulty in getting taxis. Planning to travel in July. Thanks! Love the site and recommendations!

      Harmony is walking distance to Mykonos Town nightlife, shopping, and restaurants. Grace is not (and buses and taxis are not very convenient).

3. Maki's Place Transportation

   Hi Dave,
   I think we are going to stay at Maki’s Place, but I noticed it’s not the most walkable of hotels. If we want to have some late nights at the beach clubs, what would be the best way to safely get home?

      You’ll have to take a taxi for evening and late-night transportation. Maki’s Place is too far to walk from nightlife and pretty much any beach club.

4. Aegon Hotel Mykonos

   Hi Dave,
   Love your website.
   I noticed you haven’t got the Aegon, Autograph Collection listed. I assume because it is quite new. My fiancé and I are thinking of spending 2-3 nights there and 2-3 night at the Mykonos Riviera. We think Aegon might be a bit quiet to spend our whole time there. Thoughts?
   Also, are you familiar with Gold Suites in Santorini? If so, what are your thoughts. Thanks.

      Yes, brand new hotel. It’s on a great beach that is indeed a little remote. There are a handful of restaurants nearby but no nightlife. Mykonos Town is about 25 minutes away by car, 30 minutes by bus. There are 4 buses a day. Gold Coast Hotel is in Imerovigli. Nice hotel, great views, central location.

5. Mykonos Grand Hotel vs Myconian Villa Collection

   Your website is great.
   Wondering if you can help me decide between Mykonos Grand Hotel or Myconian Villa Collection? Travelling beginning of July with a baby and wondered which hotel you would recommend. We’re looking for luxury and also a hotel with beach and good food.

      Both are on good beaches with a few places to eat nearby but not a lot. Mykonos Grand is probably the better choice as it’s a short easy bus ride to Ornos Beach and Mykonos Town – both with lots of restaurants. The Myconian Villa Collection is a little more isolated. And yes, July has great beach weather.

6. Mykonos Honeymoon Hotel with Private Pool

   Hi!

   We are a young couple going to Greece in May for our honeymoon, with Mykonos as our first stop. We’re looking for a nice, luxury hotel where we can get to Platis Gialos and Mykonos Town easily (taxi or bus is okay too). We definitely want a romantic hotel with ocean views and a nice nightlife (not any crazy partying). We’re looking for hotels that aren’t crazy expensive but have a private pool. We’re torn between these 3 hotels:

   1. Myconian Utopia Relais & Chateaux
   2. Katikies Mykonos (looks great, but has a 9.0 rating on hotels.com, which is less than others)
   3. Anax Resort & Spa

   Is there one that we’re missing here that you’d recommend? Thank you! Your site is amazing!

7. Best Location in Mykonos

   Hi Dave,

   This is very helpful! My wife and another couple are planning a 4-5 day trip in Mykonos in early July. We want to experience a little bit of everything, town, restaurants, clubs, relaxation and the views. Any tips on where we should stay? We are currently considering the Myconian Ambassador and the Boheme but there are so many options and we want to get the most bang for our buck. It seems like many of the hotels are 5 star but prices vary. Does location really matter if you have to take a cab to most places on the island?

      Yes, location is important when choosing where to stay in Mykonos, especially if you’re relying on taxis. There are only 31 taxis in Mykonos serving all guests from all hotels, so there is always a considerable wait for a cab at one of the 2 official taxi stands (both in Mykonos Town: one at Fabrika and one at the Old Port). You can call ahead to schedule pickups from your hotel or from the bars, but that means making more rigid plans rather than being able to go with the flow. Taxis are useful, but it’s a good idea to stay somewhere that is within walking distance to restaurants and attractions or near a bus stop with regular service, so you’re not tied to the taxi as your only option for transportation.

      That said, both Boheme and Myconian Ambassador are fantastic hotels. Boheme is just a 6-minute walk to Mykonos Town and Fabrika bus station and taxi stand (though it is along a busy road with no sidewalk). Myconian Ambassador is about a 6-minute walk to the Platis Gialos bus stop in front of Petasos Beach Resort. The bus runs from Platis Gialos to Mykonos Town every 30 minutes until late into the night.

8. What Hotel To Stay At in Mykonos

   Hi, I’m going to Mykonos mid-July. I’m debating between the Ambassador that I have heard is in a great location and a beautiful hotel or the Korali. I’m going with my husband, we like a balance of rest and partying and I don’t think we will rent a car. I know the hotels are in different locations, but not sure what each offers. I would appreciate your thoughts. After Mykonos, we are staying at the Chromata in Santorini.

      Both Korali and Ambassador are amazing hotels that are part of the Myconian Collection of hotels and Relais and Chateaux, so they offer a similar quality of amenities and services, both focusing on gourmet foods, unique design and décor, and impeccable service. Both hotels cater to couples, and both have rooms and suites with jacuzzis or private pools. Both have beautiful pools and spas.

      The main differences are the locations. Ambassador offers easy access to Platis Gialos Beach, just a 3-minute walk away, plus it is walking distance to 4 more of Mykonos’ best beaches, and it’s on the water taxi route to reach even more farther flung beaches. There are several great beach clubs nearby, many open late into the night for dancing, but not as much nightlife as you’d find in town. There is a bus stop nearby that goes into Mykonos Town about every 30 minutes in the high season to reach the bars and clubs.

      Korali is located within a 15-minute walk of Mykonos Town, home of the island’s best bars, clubs, dining, and shopping, along with both the new and old ferry ports. Korali is about a 7-minute walk to Megali Ammos Beach, an unorganized beach, meaning no beach clubs and only 1 restaurant. There is a bus to Platis Gialos and Ornos Beaches about 8 minutes away, also running about every 30 minutes in the high season. So, choose Ambassador for a beach-centric vacation with some access to nightlife, dining, and shopping, or choose Korali for a more party/foodie/shopping-focused vacation with some access to beaches.

      And, yes, Chromata is a fantastic choice for Santorini, with amazing views over the caldera, great dining onsite and nearby, and wonderful amenities and facilities. You’ll have a great time there.

9. Hotels and Itinerary for Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini

   Hello! Looking to do a 7-10 trip in late June/early July, beginning with with one night in Athens (is that enough?), 3/4 days in Mykonos, and 3/4 days in Santorini. Any other suggestions? We will be celebrating our one year anniversary/overdue honeymoon. We are interested in amazing food, best service and experience available, and just overall most luxurious stay. We are both in our early 30s. Thank you for any input you can provide!

      Athens is worth at least one full day. There’s lots to explore within the central core of the city – all very walkable. My favorite hotel in Athens is the Grande Bretagne. It’s charming, luxurious, and as romantic as any hotel in Athens.

      The top 3 romantic hotels in Santorini are Katikies, Carpe Diem, and Grace, all of which are 5 star luxury properties with gorgeous sunset views, great food onsite and within a short walk to restaurants, polished service, and rooms with private jacuzzis or pools. Katikies is in Oia is the most obviously glamorous of these, with 3 infinity pools (1 with an adjacent champagne bar and DJ), an award-winning restaurant, and incredibly attentive staff. Just 5 minutes from the heart of Oia and its famous sunset, there are tons of restaurants and attractions nearby, though the area can be very crowded in June and July. Grace is an understated luxury hotel in Imerovigli village, which is quieter overall than Oia, though Grace’s location on the trail to Skaros Rock means there’s still a good bit of foot traffic. Imerovigli sits at the highest point in the caldera with the best direct sunset views over Skaros, the volcanoes, and Thirassia Island. The hotel boasts the largest infinity pool in the caldera, impeccable service, and their signature Bespoke Experiences that center on wellness, wine, photography, culture, or caldera cruises. Finally, Carpe Diem is a refined hotel located in Pyrgos village, the most unspoiled traditional village on the island, located at the highest point on Santorini. Carpe Diem’s super private suites boast panoramic island views of the sunrise and sunset, each with its own private pool (6 heated, 4 unheated). They offer a 1-to-1 staff-to-guest ratio with24 hour butler service, a private fine dining restaurant, a full service spa designed for couples, and a variety of unique experiences. Carpe Diem is not on the caldera, but the views are spectacular nonetheless.

      In Mykonos, consider Mykonos Blu, Myconian Villa Collection, or Kivotos, all incredibly luxurious but each very different. Mykonos Blu is an exclusive 5-star property, the only hotel with direct access to Psarou Beach, which is the beach best protected from the island’s strong winds. The hotel boast a wide variety of room and suite types, all with traditional design, posh furnishings, and all in white, many with private pools or jacuzzis. Mykonos Blu is also features spectacular sea views throughout the property, amazing food, and shuttle service into Mykonos Town. Myconian Villa Collection offers a luxury experience with more over-the-top opulence with incredible suites and villas with private pools or jacuzzis, phenomenal food, and gorgeous views over Elia Beach. Facilities include a large saltwater pool, thalassotherapy spa, and a complimentary beach shuttle and beach beds. And lastly, Kivotos offers an eclectic luxury experience with a fantastic blend of contemporary and antique décor, a small, private beach (though a touch rocky), 2 beautiful pools, 3 fantastic restaurants, and dreamy suites, many with private pools. Kivotos also offers a unique experience to stay on their private schooner and sail around the nearby island for a day or up to a week.

10. Good Mykonos Hotel for 3 Adults

    Going to Mykonos in June with my twin 22 year old nieces. Looking for a hotel/resort with the following in order of importance: Pool area, beach access, view, walk to or easy bus ride to town. Girls will probably want to hit some other hotels or clubs for fun but not massive club goers so don’t want to stay right next to them. Relaxing, poolside is most important with view/beach next and then access to town. Not trying to break the bank so mid level range is probably the goal which appears to be $400-$500 per night.        The best hotel for your stay is Nissaki Boutique Hotel. This one hits all the marks: 4 stellar saltwater pools, gorgeous ocean views, easy walking to 2 beaches (Psarou and Platys Gialos), and very near to a bus stop with routes into Mykonos Town (where all the best nightclubs and bars are) every 30 minutes. Junior Suites are within your price range. Other great hotels to consider would be Rocabella Mykonos (fantastic pool and spa, right above Agios Stefanos Beach, easy bus or taxi distance to town, a little more luxurious/spendy than Nissaki) or Petasos Beach Resort (great pool, private manmade beach with a lifeguard, easy bus access to town, luxurious but more affordable than Nissaki or Rocabella).

11. Athens and Greek Islands in October

    Hi dave,
    Planning to visit Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos in October. Is it the right time to visit these places and apart from these islands any other must visit as we are from India?

       October is great for sightseeing. Early October is usually still good for swimming and sunbathing. By the end of October it can be too cool to swim (some years) though weather is still very pleasant. Naxos and Paros are great islands to visit on your way from Mykonos to Santorini.

12. Mykonos Villa with Private Pool for Family of 6

    My husband and I and our 4 kids (17, 18, 22, 23) are coming to Mykonos June 18th – June 23rd. Of course my kids want to be near the party scene but we want to stay in a private Villa that is private but not to far from the main scene. We need three or four bedrooms and we want a private pool. Do you have any recommendations regarding nice villas and best location? Thanks so much.

       The Belvedere Villa is probably the best villa on Mykonos. It’s owned by the Belvedere Hotel but separate from the hotel. It’s a 3 minute from the bus station (for the most popular beaches) and a 5-8 minute walk from Little Venice and all the nightlife and restaurants of Mykonos Town. There’s a private pool, hot tub, kitchen, large outdoor dining area and deck.

13. La Residence Mykonos

       Good hotel with nice pool. The nearby beach is more small pebbles than sand. Quiet area with a few tavernas on/near the beach and a direct bus to Mykonos Town. Great for a quiet stay but not for nightlife or bar scene.

14. Myconian Ambassador or Saint John Mykonos

    Hi Dave – We are booking 5 nights in Mykonos in late May / early June for our honeymoon, and are debating between the Myconian Ambassador (True Blue Room w/ Jacuzzi) and the Saint John Mykonos (Standard Sea View Room). Do you have a recommendation? We are looking for a quieter stay (vs. the club atmosphere).

       Neither are near the club scene so no worries there. The Ambassador is in Platys Gialos and an easy walk to a nice beach and plenty of restaurants. The Saint John is in a much quieter spot of the island. Great pool but beach here is not one of Mykonos’s best. Just a few places to eat nearby but Ornos (similar atmosphere as Platys Gialos) is a short drive away. Mykonos Town is 10 to 15 minutes from each resort.

    We’re a late 20s couple considering Branco, Cavo Tagoo and Bill & Coo for a 4 night stay in Mykonos. How do you think the three compare? I saw you noted Branco as the best new hotel, but it’s not listed on the page of top hotels.

       I have not seen it. Photos look beautiful. It’s located out by Agios Ioannis beach which is a bit isolated. I think stay here if you want a quiet and luxurious stay. Mykonos Town is a 15/20 minute drive.

       The Belvedere in Mykonos Town is my favorite hotel and often has a fun vibe around the pool bar. Delos is the most popular day trip from Mykonos. The cooking class at the Mykonian Spiti are wonderful and often a good way to meet people. More info: Mykonos Tours.

18. Kensho Boutique Hotel in Mykonos

    Just saw that Kensho Boutique Hotel on Mykonos won some fancy boutique award for hotels. Wondering what you thought of location and quality. Looking to book something soon (preferably beach hotel) as I know Mykonos fills early.

       Kensho is a very trendy hotel in Ornos. Boutique design is the vibe here. Walking distance to the beach but not right on the beach like the pictures sort of suggest. Beautiful views but neighboring plots of land are a little scruffy. You don’t really notice this (especially at night) but it’s hard for it not to detract a little from the atmosphere. Still, top notch hotel for sure.

19. Harmony vs Bluetopia in Mykonos

    Hi Dave! You were so helpful with my Santorini question, I hope you can do the same for Mykonos. Traveling as a couple, mid to late 30’s. Mykonos is our first stop and per your recommendation we want to stay in town. I will get to the point, I reserved 2 rooms, what are your thoughts on these:

    Harmony Boutique Hotel- Superior Sea View (4n $1348)
    OR
    Bluetopia Suites – Seaview Suite (4n $1736)
    (this looks fairly new?) it isnt mentioned anywhere on your blog, and Trip Advisor has 25 perfect reviews.

       Go with Bluetopia to be right in the heart of Mykonos Town (lots of charm but also busy). Hqrmony is a short walk from town, less busy, less atmosphere right out your door. Harmony has a small pool, Bluetopia doesn’t. So, depends on your tastes.

    My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for June to Greece – we are looking to stay in Santorini & Mykonos. I am having trouble finding a hotel in Mykonos – my sister had stayed at Santa Marina Mykonos but it is sold out. Someone had recommended Ammos Hotel, any feedback? Thank you!

21. Mykonos Branco or Mykonos Blu

    My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon to Greece next summer, and are considering Mykonos after Santorini. For a luxury honeymoon (aka no kids around), would you recommend Branco or Mykonos Blu (or a third option)? We definitely want accomodations with direct beach access.

       Both are great hotels but only Branco has direct beach access (Platys Gialos Beach). Blu looks down on Psarou Beach (easy access yes, direct no).

    Hi Dave, My Husband and I are considering going to Greece around early October. Will the Mykonos nightlife still be buzzing during this time? This will probably help to decide whether we stay in town or in one of beach hotels.

       Will nightlife still be “buzzing”? No. But will there be bars that are open, lively, and fun? Absolutely. Primarily in Mykonos Town. Beaches are pretty quiet by October.

25. Semeli or Mykonos Theoxenia

    My husband and I are deciding between Semeli and Mykonos Theoxenia. What can you provide as far as pros and cons for each location and which place would you prefer? We are looking for a balance of proximity to town, sea views, easy to get to beaches. Kara

       Theoxenia is much closer to town and the Little Venice area of restaurants and bars but Semeli is only a 5 minute walk so both have great locations for exploring Mykonos Town. Neither is close to a beach – both are a 5 minute walk to the bus station with frequent buses to the most popular beaches. The pool and deck area is a little bigger at Theoxenia but Semeli, in general, has more charm.

       Very nice hotel about a 2 minute walk to the bus station (buses to all the main beaches) and 5 minutes to the heart of town. Only caveat is that the short walk into town is on a busy narrow road with no sidewalks. It’s not a big deal for most but is a bit of a nuisance as it’s not a relaxing walk (until you cross into town). It’s one reason why it’s a little less expensive than a similar hotel that is located right within Mykonos Town.

27. Petasos Beach Resort or Mykonos Bay Hotel

    Hi Dave!

    I am deciding between Petasos Beach Resort and Mykonos Bay. I will be coming with my husband in August and while we will venture into town for late dinners etc, I don’t think we will be spending much time on the night party scene. We want a really nice hotel with great views, access to beaches – somewhere we can spend the day and relax. Which do you recommend for this – Petasos or Mykonos Bay?

       Very different atmosphere at the two hotels. Petasos is trendier and feels more luxurious. Mykonos Bay is very nice but feels simpler, more low key. If you’re pool-people I’d give the nod to Mykonos Bay as the pool area is bigger and more relaxing. The Petasos pool is more of a “scene” and can be busy (though it does have better views). The beaches near Petasos are much, much better. The beach in front of Mykonos Bay often has rough surf and OK sand (it’s fine but not idyllic). Mykonos Bay is much closer to Mykonos Town but since you need to walk along a busy-ish road, walking back at night is not a great idea (catch the bus heading to Ornos and get the driver to stop in front of your hotel). Lots of bus service to Petasos.

    Can you pls advise how is Paradasia Villas in Tourlos?

       Beautiful family-friendly suites but these are a long way from shops and restaurants of Mykonos Town and all the best beaches in Mykonos. A rental car is mandatory if you stay here (unless you’re happy with sitting by the pool all day).

30. Mykonos Theoxenia or Myconian Kyma

    Hi Dave,

    My boyfriend and I are going to Mykonos the beginning of July and we are trying to decide between 2 hotels. They are:

    Mykonos Theoxenia
    Myconian Kyma

    I understand that Mykonos Theoxenia is the closest to town, but the Myconian Kyma looked a bit nicer in terms of the rooms (and with the private plunge pool or jacuzzi). We are in our mid 20s and we will be going to Crete and Santorini before Mykonos. We are planning on doing some relaxing in Crete (staying at Domes of Elounda) and Santorini (staying at Charisma Suites) so we are looking to have a more fun time in Mykonos. Any suggestions for us?        If you want easy access to the nightlife and fun of Mykonos Town then the clear choice is the Theoxenia. If you want to relax by the pool and enjoy the views then go with the Kyma.

31. Kyma vs Korali vs Theoxenia

    Hello Dave, thanks for all the time you put into creating this great guide! Currently, they are renovating the Myconian K hotels, Korali, Kyma & Naia – we are looking at them and specifically the Korali vs Kyma. Have you had a chance to see them by any chance? Is it really 20 min walk to town (google’s estimate) or is it more. They seem to be up on the hill a bit = great for the views, bad for the walk. The design is exactly right up our alley with its architecture and decor. Korali seems to have better pool with infinity feel, Kyma’s pool is a bit closed off but a bit bigger hotel and livelier?

    We are coming mid September.
    Also looking into the Theoxenia. Great vibe visually with lush greens & palms, exposed rocks everywhere, but no sea views from the pool. What are your thoughts between the 3? They are the same price point. A bit of walk out of town is not much of a big deal for us.

    We are spending 4 nights. Plan is to walk the town, eat the food, drink the drinks .. relax by pool, by beach and maybe hit the water with some catamaran .. your typical lazy-ish itinerary :-) then off to Santorini for 3 nights. Should we do Mykonos 3 and Santorini 4 nights instead?

       The Korali and Kyma are slightly more luxurious and exclusive than the Theoxenia but yes, as you say, they are an uphill walk outside of Mykonos Town. About 15 minutes from the main bus station. There are no sidewalks along most of the road and I wouldn’t call it a relaxing/pleasant walk. But it’s not far or difficult. The bus between Mykonos Town and the beaches stops nearby the hotels. Personally, I would go for the Theoxenia as proximity to town is my top preference but if you can see relaxing by the pool for whole days then the K hotels would be wonderful. And yes, I would do more time on Santorini than Mykonos.

       For what you’re looking for I’d go with Mykonos Blanc. Anax and Saint John don’t have a lot around them (especially Anax). Palladium is great but not right on the beach like Blanc.

33. Mykonos Hotels in Late September

    Thank you for all your information on Greece you have on your site, so helpful in our planning. We have a couple questions. We are planning to go to Mykonos for a honeymoon, end of September. Would the weather be good beach weather during that time? Also, we are looking at Vencia Boutitque Hotel the Superior Suite with sea view, what are your thoughts? We would like something with a private pool but the patio looks very inviting. Or, if you have any other suggestions of somewhere with a private pool. We don’t like crowds and want our own peace so smaller hotels are more appealing. Any wonderful, restaurants with incredible view and that are family run would also be nice.        Vencia is a great hotel with wonderful views. It is a little out of town (a steep walk back) but otherwise is a great choice.

34. Vencia Boutique vs Santa Marina

    What are your thoughts on Vencia Boutique hotel? Trying to decide between that and Santa Marina..this would be for our honeymoon. I’m struggling to decide between staying in town and staying on the beach! So difficult to decide.        I like being close to town especially in the quieter months which mid-September is right on the border of. Vencia is still a 10 minute walk to town and a 15 minute walk back (up hill), so it’s not as if you’re right in the heart of town. Either way is great – but yes, different.

35. Hotels Filling Quickly for Next September – Advice

       Ornos is a beautiful beach and Mykonos Blanc has a great spot on it. Nice hotel and the pool is steps from the sea. Lots of good restaurants on the Ornos beach but for any nightlife you’ll need to bus or taxi to Mykonos Town (less than 10 minutes away). It’s quiet at night here, but not dead.

36. Santorini or Mykonos in Early October

    as everyone else has said, great blog, really helpful.
    I am after some advice, please. My wife and I are looking to spend 7 days in Greece from the 8th of October. We were just wondering what sort of weather we can expect.
    We both like to relax, a pool is essential, a beachside resort would be lovely but something very close to a nice beach would also work.
    We love to eat out so close to a main town with plenty of restaurant choice is also on our wishlist. We had narrowed down Mykonos or Santorini.

       The weather in early October will usually have cooled noticeably from September and while it should still be sunny and warm it’s possible that you get a few days with a persistent breeze that makes it hard to sit by the pool. Mini heat-waves are also common and you could have blazing sunny weather. So expect anything. Nights will almost certainly be coolish and require a light sweater (or more). As for which island, Santorini is far and away the more unique and magical of the two but if you’re mainly focused on pool and beach time then Mykonos is the better choice. Food is wonderful on both islands.

37. Hotels for Family of 4

    Hi Dave,

    Your website is the best of the best. Really impressive. We will be traveling to Greece for 2 weeks next summer with our 2 kids ages 15 and 12. I would love to hear what you think of my hotel choices:

    -Athens for 3 days – the Hotel Grand Bretagne or the MET34?
    -Mykonos for 3 days – Nissaki Boutique or the Palladium? Any others to consider?
    -Santorini Fira: 4 nights at the Arias Suites. We also considered the Celestia Villa.
    -Santoriini Kamari 2 nights at the Bellonais Suites.We also considered CavoBiano and Kastelli Resort.
    -Last night in Athens before early flight at the Sofitel.

    We travel often and whenever we can, prefer the Four Seasons resorts. Now that the kids are getting bigger, we long for that extra space. We love to wander and eat well while having lots of sun and beach time.

       In Athens: The Grande Bretagne is one of my favorite hotels in Greece – so charming with a really special classical feel … but the 2-bedroom apartment at Met34 is more family friendly than the largest suite at the GB. Both have great locations. In Mykonos: Nissaki is trendier with better views and closer to the beach. Palladium has more room and larger pool. In Fira: Aria Suites for sure – right in town and awesome luxury hotel. Celestia is nice too (and actually a better view) but 20 minute walk from central Fira. In Kamari: All those are great choices.

38. E Tickets for Ferry to Paros

    Hi Dave:

    Great Guides. Very detailed and helpful. We are staying at Petasos and per your suggestion, taking a high speed ferry (Hellenic) to Paros and from there taking the Blue Star to Santorini. I was issued electronic tickets for both ferries. Do I still have to get a paper ticket at one of ferry offices? Do you know which port Hellenic departs from in Mykonos? (They don’t say and its kind of difficult to find out.)

       If the e-ticket has a bar code then it will get you on the ferry. If not, you need to visit the office and get a paper ticket. Hellenic should leave from the new port (outside of town) but always double check.

39. Mykonos, Naxos, and Santorini

    Hi Dave

    We have 8 nights to spend in the Greek islands from 25 Sept – 3 October. We have booked our first 4 nights at Astra Suites in Santorini and then 4 nights on Naxos at Hotel Grotta (both thanks to your website!).

    I am now wondering if we should shorten our stay in Naxos to 2 nights, and spend the last 2 nights in Mykonos Town so we can see it. We aren’t keen on a party scene but the narrow alleyways and lovely shops/restaurants sound amazing.

    If we went to Mykonos, the ferry would drop us in Naxos 3:30pm Thursday, and we would leave Naxos at 3:30pm Saturday for Mykonos by ferry. We would leave Mykonos for Athens on the Monday either by flight or ferry.

    I have two questions

    1. Is it worth doing 2 nights Naxos, 2 nights Mykonos? Or will that make both places too rushed?
    2. If we go to Mykonos, which of the Semeli or Kouros would you recommend in Mykonos Town for a short trip?

       I think splitting your time between Naxos and Mykonos is a great idea. 2 days is not a lot on either but enough to get out and explore. Semeli and Kouros are both wonderful. Kouros is slightly more luxurious and trendy. Semeli is more central (right in town). Some people like the little bit of distance between town and Kouros (about a 10 minute walk). Others find it a hassle. Both have very nice pools.

40. Where To Stay on Mykonos and Santorini

    I echo everyone — your blog is amazing and helped a close friend of mine who just came back from a wonderful time in Santorini! I just booked airline tickets to Greece for September because I found a great deal (which is somewhat last minute), and plan to visit Santorini for four nights and Mykonos for three nights. I am driving myself crazy with the hotel situation, and I would love your assistance.

    9/10 – arrive in Santorini from Athens (arrive in Athens earlier that day)
    9/10-9/12 – Stay at a budget hotel to sleep off jet lag – currently considering Captain John or Kavalari Hotel, but neither really has a pool — Captain John has a small shared Jacuzzi which could work until we move to another hotel).
    9/12-9/14 – Stay at West East Suites (would like a luxury hotel with a great infinity pool — many of your recommendations are sold out for these dates unfortunately, but I haven’t seen much about this hotel on this site).

    9/14 – Ferry to Mykonos
    9/14-9/17 – Looking for a hotel in Mykonos — ideally would like to find a hotel in, or walking distance to, Mykonos Town with a really nice pool area, preferably with an infinity pool, but something a bit more affordable than Cavo Tagoo or Bill & Coos, and with easy access to nightlife. Being closer to nightlife is more important than being close to the beach. Given this late date, many of your suggestions, including the Hotel Belvedere, are booked, but might consider Mykonos Luxury Residences No. 5, Golden Star or Villa Evi (villa with private infinity pool).
    9/17 fly back to Athens, depart Athens on 9/18

    Any of your thoughts on the above would be appreciated. For all of the hotels we would like easy access to nightlife, a nice pool area (preferably with an infinity pool), and great views.

       Kavalari is great. There is a small shared jacuzzi/plunge pool. Very central location and a good place to start your visit. West East Suites are very nice. Location is not so central and you’re off on your own a little bit – the restaurants of Imerovigli are a 12 minute walk away, nightlife is a good 30 minute walk (or a bus ride) away. Of the Mykonos hotels you mention Golden Star is the only one that is walking distance into town (about 5 minutes along a busy road without sidewalks but very doable).

          Thank you so much for your response and for pointing out that Kavalari has the small plunge pool — I had overlooked that, and I was leaning towards Captain John as a result. Went ahead with Kavalari based on your feedback and the location. After writing and doing additional research, it seemed like the Vencia Boutique Hotel in Mykonos might be a good option, but it was not available for all three nights and moving for one night seemed silly. Decided to bite the bullet and reserve Cavo Tagoo for the Mykonos portion of the trip because it seemed liked a good option overall despite the price tag. I am a little concerned about West East being a bit isolated, but perhaps the pool will make up for it.

             Sounds good. I wouldn’t worry about West East too much. The walk from there to Imerovigli is beautiful – if you’re a walker at all you might walk to a restaurant in town and think, “What the heck was he talking about, that’s was nothing!” But some people like to walk out their door and in a minute or two be at a bar or eatery – and for those people West East is not a great choice. The pool is indeed beautiful.

41. Kensho Hotel in Mykonos

    My sister and I will be staying at Kensho hotel in Mykonos September 2-5. What do you think of the location if we also want to have some fun at night. Then we will be heading to Santorini for a couple of days before heading back to Athens to catch our flight. We do have an extra day that we can use to visit another island. What do you think will be most convenient Naxos or Ios? I really wanted to visit Zakynthos but looks like its out of the way. Thanks so much for all your help.

       The night life is mainly found in Mykonos Town and a few of the beaches. Ornos (where Kensho is walking distance from) has a few places to get a drink but nothing I would call nightlife. So you’ll need to go into Mykonos Town and for that you’ll have a 10 minute bus or taxi ride – not sure if you consider that easy access or not. Choosing Naxos or Ios depends on the ferries and Naxos will most likely have the most connections from Mykonos on your day of travel. Both Naxos and Ios will have daily ferries to Santorini.

       Great hotel but location is not ideal. You’re a good 15 minute walk (with some busy roads) to Mykonos Town. Walk back is more like 20. So plan on renting car or taking a few taxis. It is fairly close to a bus stop for beaches – just 6 minutes away (but too far to walk).

       Mykonos Princess is a great hotel in a quiet location. I prefer being either in Mykonos Town or close to the beaches south of town. That said, nearby Agios Stefanos is a nice beach with a handful of restaurants. Renting a car would be recommended if you want to explore the rest of the island. Remezzo Villas in Santorini is even more luxurious. Great views and an easy 5 minute walk to a bunch of great restaurants in Imerovigli. Fira (nightlife, shopping) is a 20/25 minute walk along the caldera path. Both are great choices as long as you know what you’re getting.

45. Santoini Honeymoon in September

    Hi Dave,

    Your website is wonderful! I am working with my fiance to plan our honeymoon. We are so excited for our trip to Greece this September. Our ideal honeymoon includes beach, pool, wine tours, walking around small quaint towns, good food, maybe some boat tour adventures and quality service/hotel rooms etc. Would love your opinion on:

    1. How is the weather in mid-September? Will we still be able to sit on the beach and by the pool. We are major beach/pool relaxation people so this will be important for us.
    2. We will be travelling for 10-12 days. Since is is our honeymoon, we are looking to explore the more relaxing and romantic side of Greece and less tourist traps etc. We were thinking of doing Santorini and Mykonos. Do you recommend we do one island first or second or are you indifferent?
    3. Santorini – we are looking at Tsitouras (but the honeymoon room recommended to us in unavailable) , Grace Santorini (do you know if this was just redone and if construction is ongoing?), and Mystique. Which one or two would you recommend for a romantic stay, beautiful sunsets, nice patios, pool, good service, walking distance to some restaurants or shops etc.?
    4. Mykonos: Our travel agent is only affiliated with Petasos. I saw that you do recommend this hotel. There were some mixed reviews about the number of kids around, service, space on the beach, and the quality/size of the rooms and views. What do you think? Is is an appropriate honeymoon spot? Have the rooms recently been renovated? Any other thoughts on this?

       1. September usually has great weather. Warm (often hot), sunny, not much rain.
       2. Order doesn’t matter much. Since the weather is slowly getting cooler, your last five or six days will (on average) be a little cooler than your first five or six days. In practice, there likely won’t be much difference (and given fluctuations, could be the opposite). With this in mind, and the fact that Mykonos is more of a beach destination than Santorini, I might have a slight preference for Mykonos first, and then Santorini.
       3. All are wonderful hotels. Grace would likely be my first choice (and yes, renovations should be completed by opening). Tsitouras is smaller, more intimate, and friendly. Grace has some great restaurants within 5 minutes. Tsitouras has fewer good restaurants nearby but is closer to Fira’s shops, restaurants, and nightlife. Mystique is in the quieter section of Oia but has many restaurants within a 10 minute walk.
       4. Petasos is a nice hotel with a great location for multiple beaches. But I don’t consider it a “honeymoon” hotel.

46. Hotels in Platys Gialos

    Hi Dave,

    I’m a solo female traveler, late 20’s. Will be in Mykonos first time for 4 nights July 9th-13th. Want lots of beach, meeting fun people, great food and drinks, and easy access to go to Mykonos Town to hang out, see the sites, and have dinner and drinks. So I’ve decided to stay in Platys Gialos and just busing back to my hotel late night in the case that I may still be having a good time in Mykonos Town after hours. Might have a friend joining me, in which case I have a room held for us at the Petasos Beach Hotel & Spa, which would be my first choice. But if I am staying solo, I will be downgrading myself to something more affordable, so I am deciding between staying at the Argo Hotel or Petinos Hotel. Both are about the same in price at the moment and seem to be in the same general area between Platis Gialos and Psarrou beaches. Petinos seems to have better rooms than Argo, but complaints about not having wifi in the rooms which is a great inconvenience for me. Wifi is supposedly weak in Argo, but at least somewhat accessible in the rooms, if a bit sluggish – all of this according to TA reviews.

    Do you have experience going to both and would recommend one over the other?

    Is the WiFi thing really an issue at Petinos? (fingers crossed that they have since fixed this)

    Do they both offer pickup/drop off at the ferry port/airport?

    Are they both well positioned for late night shuttles to/from Mykonos town?

    If I were to hang out late at Paradise Beach, are these positioned to where I could just walk back to my hotel or would there be a shuttle option?

    Would like to reserve a room at either ASAP before the prices rise any further, just need a little more insight. Thanks in advance for your any advice you could share.

       All of these hotels (Petasos, Petinos, and Argo) are within a 2 minute walk from each other. Close to bus stop, restaurants, and Platys Gialos Beach. Petasos is the nicest and has a view (the others generally don’t though it does depend on the room). I have not had trouble with the wifi at Petinos though I’m usually up the road a bit in one of their family apartments so maybe it’s different in the main building (where I suspect you’ll be staying). Yes, they all have a free shuttle for the port and airport but even at the best hotels this can be hit and miss as it’s dependent on the travel plans of other guests – it usually works out but patience is important when using the free shuttles. You can walk from all of these hotels to Paradise Beach (it’s a very beautiful walk along the coast) but you would not want to walk it on the way back at night. You’d either have to get a taxi or take the bus to Mykonos Town then switch to a Platys Gialos bus.

47. Where To Go in Late April and Early May

    I was wanting your advice about our travel plan for Greece that being planned for the last week April/1st week May. We are 3 couples in our 40s travelling together from India.

    Basically we had 8 days to travel in Greece and wanted to plan it the best way possible. Apart from a full day of sightseeing in Athens, we were wondering how to plan the rest of the 7 days.

    One option was to take a road trip into the mainland and travel to Delphi and Meteora for 3 days and then plan for 4 nights in Santorini. This would give us an option of visiting the ruins in Delphi, Monastaries at Meteora, and the Perrama caves near meteora.. followed by a relaxed 4 nights in Santorini.

    Other option was to eliminate the road trip to the mainland and include 3 nights in Mykonos. We are considering this option as we have heard that Mykonos is must to visit because it is very lively and has a great party atmosphere. But a lot of websites are also mentioning that Mykonos is quite dead in end April and it only picks up in peak summer months post May … is that true?

    Also, we are definitely going to Santorini. So as an experience, is Mykonos going to be a repetition of Santorini? To get a fuller experience of Greece which is a better option to consider?

    We are really confused about this and really hope that you can throw some light on this issue. Please advise.

       I would do the central Greece (Delphi, Meteora, Perama) and Santorini option. Mykonos is a wonderful island but yes, it is quiet in late April. In May it starts getting some life but there are no big parties and the nightlife is still pretty subdued. Mykonos is quite different than Santorini but not as different as central Greece, so if you want to experience a greater variety of Greece then certainly mainland Greece and Santorini will give you that.

       Eva is a nice budget/moderate hotel. An easy walk to the beach (but not right on it) and a nice pool. Getting to Mykonos Town is a 10 to 15 minute bus ride (bus stop is 5 minutes from the hotel).

I believe that i’m staying at Katikies in Santorini but I am having a harder time deciding on where to stay in Mykonos. Both the Belvedere and the neighboring Semeli are booked for the time that I’m there. We enjoy walking around to explore shops and having the option to go out at night if we want to. We also would like to spend the majority of our time on the beach. Can you recommend a hotel/ area that gives us the best of both worlds (beach/ Mykonos Town)?

       It’s beach or town. There’s not really a hotel that gives you both. There are hotels in-between beach and town but I tend to think that gives you neither as opposed to both. Two great luxury hotels that are a short walk from Mykonos Town are Kouros and Cavo Tagoo.

Seems centralized on Platys Gialos (in terms of of access other beaches from here as well as Mykonos Town), and also very close to the beach which we would like. Is this a good choice?        Petinos Beach is in a great spot. Right on Platys Gialos and convenient for walking to several other beaches up and down the coast. The bus stops just up the street. Music/DJ schedules for summer should be out by May.

       There are very few “cheap hotels” with a pool but Sofia Village, a 10 minute walk outside of Mykonos Town, is good value with a nice pool, sun deck, and bar.

52. Good Mid-range Hotel on Mykonos

    Hi Dave. I’m probably the millionth person to tell you that your website is invaluable. So glad I found it!
    In short my husband and I are having 3 weeks in Greece end of August through to middle September and plan on dividing Crete first and then Mykonos. Friends are staying at Santa Marina for 9 nights and we would like to stay close by but our budget doesn’t allow for the same hotel.
    After extensive reading on your site it sounds like we may want to add another location like Santorini instead of such a long stay in Mykonos.
    Either way happy to be in Mykonos for the 9 nights but can you recommend something around the $350 Australian a night mark close to Santa Marina or would you recommend staying in town. Looked at Ammos but Tripadvisor reviews were not kind.

       Yes, with 9 nights I would definitely add Santorini to the itinerary. Ornos has a great beach and it’s a short drive to Mykonos Town (so you can enjoy both). I prefer staying in town and experiencing the wide choice of restaurants and nightlife but with friends staying at the Santa Marina you’d probably find it more convenient to stay in Ornos. Ammos Hotel is nice with a great location and simple rooms (just don’t be expecting 5 star – I think this is what some of the negative reviews are expecting).     We are going on our honeymoon this July arriving in Santorini on the 19th and staying 5 nights here (all booked). We then plan to do 3 nights in Naxos (not booked) and five nights in Mykonos (not booked) before we fly home from Mykonos.
    We would like your expert advise in relation to where we should stay in Mykonos. I have read a lot about the nightlife and party scene and then about the beaches that are a bit out of town.
    We are the type of couple that like nice restaurants, nice friendly bars, a day trip to the beach would do if our hotel had a nice pool. We would certainly want to avoid a hotel that attracts stag or hen parties. I guess a nice honeymoon friendly hotel that we could walk to and from the bars and resturants. Thank you again for the huge effort and work you put into your site.

       Considering your preferences, I would recommend staying in Mykonos Town. The Belvedere is a great honeymoon hotel with good pool and a short walk from restaurants, nightlife, and the bus station (for the beaches). The Semeli is right next door and similar quality if the Belvedere is fully booked (as often happens).

54. Best Hotels for Romantic Anniversary on Mykonos and Santorini

    Hello Sir!… incredible site you have so much help!!.. I am going to Mykonos and Santorini with my wife for our 10th anniversary, I would like to stay at the very best and most romantic hotels in both Islands, I already got hold of a Deluxe Room with plunge pool and the Grace Suite at the the Grace Santorini (deciding between both rooms). But in Mykonos maybe The Grace is not a good choice? Which then? I was thinking between Bill&Coo, Blu, Myconian Ambassador or maybe Cavo Tago? Which one is best? … Is the Grace at Santorini the best there is or maybe another one? Budget is not a problem.

       All 4 hotels are wonderful. Location is the big difference. Blu is in between Psarou and Platys Gialos beaches and is good if you want the beach party scene at Nammos. Myconian Ambassador is far quieter and a bit older crowd. It’s an easy walk to Platys Gialos but not right on the beach. Cavo Tagoo is great for walking into Mykonos Town for restaurants and nightlife. Bill & Coo is on the opposite side of town (from Cavo), walking distance to a good (but not great) beach, and requires walking on a busy-ish road to get into Mykonos Town. It’s easy to get to Platys Gialos beach from Bill & Coo while it’s a bit more effort from Cavo Tagoo. And yes, Mykonos Grace is not a great choice as it’s location is pretty lousy. Grace Santorini is indeed wonderful and the best hotel on Santorini.

55. Renting ATVs on Mykonos

    Is it quite easy to hire ATV’s compared to car’s on the island. How long would an ATV drive be from Mykonos town to Platys Gialos. Really tossing up whether to stay in Town or the Beach for my Honeymoon this year.

       Renting cars and ATVs is easy. Only trouble can be finding an automatic transmission car (most are manual) in July and August. From Mykonos Town to Platys Gialos on an ATV would be 10 to 15 minutes.

       Kalua Beach Club on Paraga Beach is funner, friendlier, and has better food. It definitely gets a younger crowd than Nammos. (Tasos Taverna has better food than both places and is right next door to Kalua – go to Kalua for drinks and apps, go to Tasos for lunch or dinner.)

58. Mykonos for Stag

    Fantastic informative site! I am in the process of organising my friend’s stag and he has mentioned Mykonos as a possible destination, which works great as none of the 10 in the group have been there. My only concern is whether it actually works as a stag destination, as i am finding it quite difficult to gather much information on this.

    Going by your site, The Belvedere sounds like the ideal hotel for our group, as it seems to be in a good location for what we would want, and the hotel looks very nice too. But i may be wrong, so was hoping you could shed some light on thoughts of Mykonos being a good stag destination, and if The Belvedere would be suitable for a group of guys around late May/June for 3-4 nights.

    Any advice on this generally would be appreciated!

       Mykonos in late May and early June will be up and running and plenty of fun, but the large parties won’t be going quite yet. So, I think it would be a fine destination if you’re looking for a place with a good choice of bars to have a good time as a group. But if you’re looking for large dance/beach parties then you’re a little too early. Likewise, Belvedere is a great choice for a group of friends to have a good time together. If you’re looking for a crazy/party hotel then this isn’t the place.

59. Astra in Santorini and Cavo Tagoo in Mykonos

    We are looking at Astra Suites in Santorini and Cavo Tagoo in Mykonos. We would like to have our own private pool over looking the water. Then have the option to go to town or beaches… We also like staying in and relaxing… are these in good locations to do this?

       Both are wonderful hotels. Astra is in Imerovigli, a quieter town with incredible views. The main town of Fira is a beautiful 20 minute walk away. Cavo Tagoo is a 10 minute walk from the shops and restaurants of Mykonos Town. It’s a short walk but can still be a bit of hassle owing to the road you walk along, so it’s close to the action but not right in the middle of things. The station for buses to the beaches is on the opposite side of Mykonos Town (about a 15 minute walk). Once again, some will call this close, others will wish they had a little more central location.

       Both are very nice hotels (4.5 stars). Location is the big difference. Theoxenia is right in Mykonos Town and the shops, restaurants, and pedestrian-only alleyways are right out the door (though you do have to cross a busy parking lot). There is no beach at Theoxenia. It’s a 5 minute walk to the bus station where you catch buses to the most popular Mykonos beaches. Mykonos Bay is on a good (but not great) beach. It’s a 10 minute walk to the bus station and Mykonos Town but goes along a busy-ish road that is a bit of a hassle (especially at night).

       Aeolos is a far nicer hotel but somewhat in the middle of nowhere (Mykonos Town is a 15 minute walk away but it feels worse than that – you’ll want a rental car or ATV if you stay here). Apsenti is more modest (but still nice) and located near Agios Ioannis beach (nice beach with good swimming) and is a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride to Mykonos Town.

          That’s true – it is kinda far and a steep walk back at night. That said, we found the owner (Panos) to be one of the nicest hoteliers we’ve ever met. When he noticed us walking to town, he came after us and offered us a lift. We hired an ATV and from the hotel went off and discovered lots of other beaches. So we wanted somewhere near enough to town but with a good escape route. Be careful on the roads, though, they’re a bit risky.

    Me and my wife are planning our Honeymoon in Greece and we were thinking of going in May. 3 nights in Athens, 3 nights in Mykonos, and 4 nights in Santorini. The problem lies in deciding which hotels…since they all look amazing! We have very specific requirements that makes it tough to decide what works for us best – we want to be close to the Mykonos town so we can check out the party scene, restaurants etc. also we wanted a high end spa like hotel to stay in that has beautiful view of the Aegean and infinity pool (is a must).

    We loved the Myconian Imperial Hotel but it seems too far from town and we’d prefer to be closer to the lively side of town. Bill and Co. Suites, Mykonos Grand Hotel and Resort. And Grace Mykonos look good but I wasnt sure which one is really good (infinity pool, good service, breakfast, rooms) and what reviews I can trust. I was wondering if you could help. I am so tired of dealing with Travel Agents who have their own agendas.

    Also, in Santorini – similar requirements. We were looking into either Cosmopolitian, Allure, or Gold Suites. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you soooo much. Any advice would be helpful.

       Of the hotels you’re considering I’d go with Bill and Coo. Wonderful place with a great pool and views. Close to Mykonos Town (though the walk is along a busy-ish road). Mykonos Grand and Grace are both farther (well beyond walking distance) to town.

       In Santorini, Cosmopolitan is one of my favorites so I’d go with that – especially if you want to be close to nightlife which is just out the door.

       • Manto Hotel (Mykonos Town)
         Simple, cheap, and clean with a great location in Mykonos Town.
       • Poseidon Hotel Mykonos (Mykonos Town)
         A very nice 3-star hotel with good rates. Great location for catching the bus to the beaches. Nice pool too.
       • Kamari Hotel (Platys Gialos Beach)
         Great value for what you get. Nice pool and a short walk from the beach.
64. Petasos or Kouros

    Hi Dave,

    Thank you for all the very helpful hotel recommendations in Mykonos. My fiancé and I are traveling to Greece on our honeymoon the end of July. We are staying in Mykonos for 3 nights and Santorini for 4 nights. We chose this order so we could relax a little more after our wedding, since I know there is more to see and do in Santorini.

    I know these two hotels are completely different location wise but I am deciding between Petasos and Kouros. Petasos’ pool and grounds look a little nicer, but I liked the unique design of the rooms at Kouros and how all the rooms have sea views. However, is the road that Kouros is on a very big turn off to staying there? We will probably want to go into Mykonos Town a couple times while we’re there. And for Petasos, are there are lot of kids/families that stay there since this will be our honeymoon we want something a little more private? We’re also huge foodies (my fiancé is a chef) so which hotel is situated closer to the better restaurants? I know they are probably hard to compare, but, ultimately, which one would you choose for honeymooners?

       First off, I assume you’re talking about Petasos Beach Resort & Spa (on Platys Gialos Beach) and not Petasos Town Hotel (a 3 star hotel in Mykonos Town). They are very different and if you want a luxury hotel then you don’t want Petasos Town Hotel. Petasos Beach Resort does attract more kids and families and Kouros is the more boutiquish of the two hotels. Most of the best restaurants on Mykonos are in Mykonos Town and you can walk there from Kouros but not Petasos. That said, it’s only 10 minutes by taxi or bus from Petasos to town so time-wise it’s not a big difference. Kouros is located along a busy road with no sidewalks (for a portion) and about 10 minutes from Mykonos Town. You can avoid the busy road by taking the back road but this requires a pretty good climb. Taxis are hard to come by in Mykonos Town but the hotel does have a free shuttle that runs back and forth to town, though this can be hit and miss. You can see the road that Kouros is on here (if you scroll around and click the arrows you’ll be able to trace the walk into town).

             The hotel shuttle will take you if it’s available. (It might have an airport pickup to make first, then take someone to the ferry port, and you’ll be waiting for an hour, so it’s not perfect.) The hotel can call a taxi but there are so few taxis on the island that calling one is no guarantee that you’ll get one. You can take the bus. The bus station is a 15 minute walk from Kouros – it’s in Mykonos Town but on the far edge from Kouros. Lastly, you can rent a car or ATV. Kouros has a parking lot so parking is no problem. Personally, I would plan on a mix of shuttle, taxi, and bus.

       Nice hotel with a large pool right on a good (not great) beach. It’s a 5 or 10 minute walk to Mykonos Town and the bus station (with buses to most beaches). The walk is short but it should be noted that it’s along a busyish road with no sidewalk (not a big deal but a bit of a pain).

66. Palladium or Petasos in Mykonos

    I currently have 2 reservations in Mykonos in September, Palladium (double with private pool) and Petasos (classic with outdoor jacuzzi). Are either of these balconies really private and do they both have a sea view? Its tough to tell from the websites what the real layout is and if it includes a sea view. What do you think is the better option for a honeymoon?

       Both are very nice hotels with good locations but the Palladium is back a fair bit from the water so though you can “see” the cove at Platys Gialos beach from the hotel I wouldn’t call it a seaview even if your room has a clear view. It’s still a short walk from the Palladium to the beach so I wouldn’t be concerned about the distance – though it is uphill and a pretty good climb on the way back. The Classic Room at Petasos has a garden view, though the main pool has beautiful views of the sea and Psarrou Beach. You’re also much closer to the waterfront than the Palladium. The Petasos definitely has a more luxurious feel to it.

          Thanks!! Very helpful!! One thing though, the room description for Petasos says:

          This accommodation offers an interior design elegance and Garden View from the balcony of the accommodation. Above the accommodation through an external stair, there is a roof top terrace with an outdoor Double Jacuzzi, two sun beds, a sofa, a table, a modern parasol and sea view.

          Is that rooftop terrace private?

             Each Outdoor Classic Jacuzzi Room has its own rooftop terrace that includes an outdoor double Jacuzzi, two sunbeds, a sofa, and a table. However they can be next to the terrace of the neighboring room so they don’t have complete privacy.

       I repeat this often: Do not listen to travel agents – they almost never know what they’re talking about and are only recommending hotels for which they have established agreements.

       Royal Myconian is a nice hotel but secluded and with not much around it. I would not stay here with teenagers. Much better to be in Mykonos Town or at Ornos or Platys Gialos beaches (both a short bus ride from town).

       The Vencia is a beautiful hotel with great pool and view. The tradeoff is that it’s not right in town but a 10 minute walk up the hill. The walk is not terrible but it can be a hassle – especially at night in the dark. I would not recommend the Vencia for anyone that had mobility issues (unless they planned to only get around by rental car). Vencia is a 15 minute walk from the bus station that has buses to the beaches. Above Blue Suites in Santorini is a small boutique hotel with great views of the caldera. Highly recommended.

    I love your website! My husband and I are planning on arriving in Mykonos on June 4 and stay at the Myconian Ambassador for 3 nights. Is this a good time to travel?        June is a great time to visit. Good weather and starting to get some really warm days (though water will still be on chilly side). Buses will definitely be running (almost like the high season schedule). Parties on Paradise Beach start around June 1 and clubs in Mykonos Town should be starting to get busy.

       The Myconian Ambassador has great views over Platys Gialos and the beach. The bus to Mykonos Town is a 5 minute walk away (and the bus ride to town is about 10 or 12 minutes). Good restaurants on the Playtys Gialos beach. If you’re on the side of Platys Gialos that’s closer to Nammos than you’ll get some thumping music from afternoon well into the night, but the Ambassador is pretty quiet.

       Portobello has the best view. Theoxenia is the most luxurious but doesn’t have much of a view from the rooms. Semeli and Theoxenia are the closest to the bus station (less than a 5 minute walk). Boheme is very nice but the worst location of the 4.

       Walking from Psarrou or Platys Gialos to Paradise Beach along the shore is a very nice walk and the one thing that you should do. A day trip to Delos is also worthwhile.

    Very informational site! I’m visiting Mykonos 3 October through 6 October. I’m looking for a spot on or near the beach, but fairly close to Mykonos Town and Nammos? Any recommendations?        I would recommend either the Mykonos Blu or Nissaki. The Mykonos Blu is connected directly with Psarou beach (where Nammos is located). The Nissaki is closer to Platys Gialos beach but still a short walk to Psarou. Both are great hotels but Nissaki is the more luxurious choice. Not sure what you mean by “close to Mykonos Town” as when you’re staying at the beach, then, of course, you’re not close to Mykonos Town. But, both hotels are 10 to 15 minutes by regular bus to Mykonos Town. Both hotels have free shuttles too but I find taking the bus easier and more practical.

73. Hotel in Naxos and Mykonos with Kids

    We’re a group of two couples with two kids each (3yr old and 6 months each couple). We’re flying to mykonos on the 20th of September until the 27th. We’re looking for a quiet place by the beach (nice sandy beach) and maybe a pool too for the kids. Not something too fancy but nice and clean with a good tavern near by, and nice beach. We thought of maybe spending 4 nights in Naxos, and 3 more nights at Mykonos. (We’ve booked the sunrise hotel but after reading a bit maybe we should go somewhere else where we don’t have to hire a car) We’re obviously not the party kind, and would rather stay on a nice beach hotel than in the hora. If you can recommend nice hotels that can suit us both on mykonos and Naxos it will be great!

       In Mykonos I would look at the Petinos Beach or the Petinos Hotel (sister properties that share the same pool and have some large suites – the Petinos is back from the beach a bit and less expensive). In Naxos try Kalergis Studios – right on the beach with large family suites.
