Staying in Ornos

Located just 3 km from Mykonos Town, Ornos is one of the most popular beaches on Mykonos. Easy to get to from Mykonos Town by public bus, it’s a great choice for families. The surrounding neighborhood offers many dining options, convenience stores, and a variety of hotels including some of the island’s finest. The bus stops right at the sand, as does the water taxi which shuttles passengers between popular beaches.

Why Stay in Ornos: The Best Beach for Families
Ornos is the most well-equipped family-friendly beach resort on Mykonos. Situated in a deep, protected bay a short drive from Mykonos Town, its main selling point is the exceptionally calm, shallow, and crystal-clear water, making it perfect for swimming, especially for young children. The vibe is upscale and lively but in a relaxed, sophisticated way; it’s less of a party scene and more of a relaxed, enjoy-the-sand scene. The entire beach is lined with high-quality restaurants and hotels.

Best Things to Do in Ornos
• Relax on Ornos Beach: This is the main attraction. It’s a beautiful beach with fine golden sand and the calmest water on the island. The beach is lined with comfortable, high-quality sunbeds and umbrellas for rent from the many restaurants, which provide excellent beachside food and drink service.

• Watch the Kitesurfers at Korfos Beach: Just a 3-minute walk across the narrow isthmus from the calm of Ornos is the windy and wavy Korfos Beach. This is a hotspot for kitesurfing, and it’s fantastic to watch the colorful kites flying across the bay. This contrast between the two beaches is a unique feature of staying in Ornos.

• Walk to Agios Ioannis Beach: A scenic 20-minute walk around the headland brings you to the beautiful and quieter Agios Ioannis beach. This is a nice spot for a change of scenery and is famous as a filming location for the movie Shirley Valentine, and the location of the Hippie Fish restaurant. There’s also an Ornos-Agios Ioannis bus if the hills are too much in the heat.

• Take the Water Taxi: The sea bus that hops between the famous south coast beaches starts its route here (or makes its final stop on the return journey). It’s a fun and easy way to visit other beaches like Platis Gialos, Paraga, and Paradise. You can walk between most of the other beaches but for Ornos you first need to get to Platis Gialos, and then can walk from there if you choose.

Best Restaurants in Ornos
Ornos has one of the best beachside dining scenes on Mykonos, with a few of my favorite Mykonos restaurants located right on the sand.

• Kuzina: One of the most popular and stylish restaurants on the beach. It has a lively, upbeat atmosphere, a great cocktail list, and a creative menu of delicious Mediterranean and Asian-fusion dishes.

• Kostantis: A fantastic, more traditional restaurant that has been an Ornos staple for years. It serves excellent, classic Greek dishes and incredibly fresh seafood in a beautiful beachfront setting. I love this place.

• Pasaji: A chic and sophisticated beach club and restaurant with a beautiful setting and a menu that blends Greek, Italian, and Asian flavors.

• Aperanto Galazio: A classic seafood taverna right on the water’s edge at the far end of the beach. A perfect spot for a long, relaxed lunch with your feet in the sand.

Getting Around Ornos
• Walking: The Ornos beach area is easily walkable.

• Bus: The bus service from Ornos to Mykonos Town (Fabrika station) is frequent, cheap, and reliable, running every 30 minutes or so and late into the night. It’s incredibly easy to pop into town for dinner or shopping. Some of the buses continue to Agios Ioannis.

• Water Taxi: The water taxi service is the best way to explore the other south coast beaches.

• To Port & Airport: Ornos is very convenient, located only a 15-minute drive by Uber, taxi, or pre-booked transfer from both the Mykonos Airport and the ferry port.
