Ornos vs Mykonos Town, Platis Gialos, Psarou, Agios Ioannis, and Elia
- Ornos vs Mykonos Town: Ornos is a beach resort area, with a sandy bay, sunbeds, beach restaurants, and family-friendly hotels. Mykonos Town has narrow lanes, bars, clubs, restaurants, boutiques, sunset views, and much more nightlife. Choose Ornos if you want your days centered on the beach; choose Mykonos Town if you want to walk everywhere and have the best choice of restaurants and nightlife.
- Ornos vs Platis Gialos: Both are excellent beach bases with water-taxi service to other south-coast beaches. Ornos has calm water, supermarkets, casual restaurants, and is especially good for families. Platis Gialos has a stronger lineup of beachfront hotels and restaurants and easier walking access to several nearby beaches. Both are good choices without a car.
- Ornos vs Psarou: Psarou is more exclusive and more expensive, with Nammos, luxury hotels, yachts, and a big beach-club scene. Ornos is more relaxed and practical, with a wider choice of casual restaurants and hotels. Choose Psarou for Nammos and luxury; choose Ornos for an easier all-around beach stay.
- Ornos vs Agios Ioannis: Agios Ioannis is quieter and better for sunset views, with a smaller beach and fewer restaurants. Ornos has more dining, better bus connections, and more going on around the beach. Choose Agios Ioannis for quiet and sunsets; choose Ornos for convenience.
- Ornos vs Elia: Elia has a longer, more spacious beach and excellent luxury resorts, but it is much farther from Mykonos Town. Ornos is closer to town, has more restaurants within walking distance, and is easier without a car. Choose Elia for a quieter resort stay; choose Ornos if you want a beach base with easy access to town.

Ornos is 3 km south of Mykonos Town and one of the best beaches on Mykonos for families. The bay is sheltered, the water is generally calm, and there are plenty of restaurants, hotels, and shops within an easy walk. Buses run directly to Mykonos Town, and the water taxi connects Ornos with the south-coast beaches.
Why Stay in Ornos
Ornos is my favorite Mykonos beach for families and one of the easiest beach areas for travelers who don’t want a car. The protected bay is good for swimming, restaurants line much of the beach, and Mykonos Town is easy to reach by bus or taxi. It gets busy in July and August, but it does not have the heavy party atmosphere of Paradise and Super Paradise.Best Things to Do in Ornos
• Ornos Beach: The main reason to stay here. The sandy beach has generally calm water, lots of sunbeds and umbrellas, and several restaurants where you can eat right on the beach. There are also public sections where you can put down your own towel.• Korfos Beach: Just across the narrow isthmus from Ornos, Korfos is windy and popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. It’s not where I’d go for a relaxing swim, but it’s worth walking over for a look.
• Walk to Agios Ioannis: Agios Ioannis is a good walk from Ornos and has a quieter beach, sunset views, and Hippie Fish restaurant. It was also a filming location for Shirley Valentine. There is bus service between Ornos and Agios Ioannis if you don’t want to walk.
• Take the Water Taxi: This is the easiest way to beach-hop from Ornos. Boats run seasonally to Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia. From Platis Gialos you can also walk to several nearby beaches, though I would use the water taxi rather than count on walking the entire south-coast route.

Best Restaurants in Ornos
Ornos has several good restaurants right on the beach, including a few of my favorite Mykonos restaurants.• Kuzina: Popular beachfront restaurant serving Greek and Mediterranean dishes along with sushi and Asian-influenced dishes. Good cocktails and a fun evening atmosphere.
• Kostantis: My favorite restaurant in Ornos. A long-running beachfront taverna with Greek dishes and fresh seafood. More traditional and less scene-oriented than some of its neighbors.
• Pasaji: Beach club and restaurant serving Greek, Italian, and Asian dishes. Good for cocktails, sushi, and a livelier meal right on the sand.
• Aperanto Galazio: Seafood taverna at the quieter end of the beach. A good choice for fish and a long lunch by the water.

Getting Around Ornos
• Walking: The beach, restaurants, shops, and most Ornos hotels are easy to reach on foot.• Bus: Buses run between Ornos and Fabrika station in Mykonos Town. In summer they run frequently, often about every 30 minutes, with service continuing late at night. Some buses continue to Agios Ioannis. This is one of the reasons I like Ornos for travelers who want a beach stay but still plan to have dinner or go out in Mykonos Town.
• Water Taxi: Seasonal boats connect Ornos with Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia. It’s the easiest way to explore the south-coast beaches from Ornos.
• Airport & Ferry Port: Both are a short drive from Ornos, but allow extra time for summer traffic, especially when traveling to or from the ferry port. Taxi, Uber, and pre-booked transfers are all good options.

The 6 Best Hotels at Ornos Beach
1. Santa Marina Resort & Villas
The best luxury resort in Ornos and my top choice here for families who want a full-service hotel. Santa Marina sits on a private peninsula at the edge of Ornos and has its own sandy beach, two infinity pools, a children’s playground, and an excellent spa. The family-friendly Elais Pool has a nearby heated whirlpool, while the Oasis Pool is adults-only. Dining includes Buddha-Bar Beach, Elais Restaurant, Oasis Pool & Lounge, and the Santa Marina Beach Lounge. Rooms, suites, and large villas are available, many with sea views and some with private pools.2. Mykonos Blanc
Excellent beachfront hotel in the center of Ornos Beach. This is where we stayed on our most recent visit, and the location is hard to beat: walk straight onto the sand, with restaurants on both sides and the bus stop nearby. Rooms and suites are modern and bright, with private pools or outdoor hot tubs available in some categories. I especially like the two-story suite for families, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There’s also a sea-view pool and spa.3. Kivotos Mykonos
Romantic boutique hotel at the far end of Ornos Bay, with its own small private beach and excellent water views. The individually designed suites and villas have much more character than the typical white-on-white Mykonos hotel, and some have private pools or outdoor hot tubs. Facilities include two pools, two restaurants, a cocktail and swim-up bar, gym, and ONAR spa with hammam. One of my favorite choices in Ornos for couples.4. Mykonos Ammos Hotel
Stylish 5-star boutique hotel directly on Ornos Beach. Rooms and suites have king beds and complimentary minibars, with beachfront, sea-view, and outdoor-hot-tub options available. Hotel guests get complimentary sunbeds in the hotel’s section of the beach. There’s also a pool, spa, gym, lounge bar, and several restaurants, including Kuzina and Pasaji. A good choice for couples who want a true beachfront hotel but still want plenty of restaurants within a few minutes’ walk.5. Kove
Kove, formerly Kensho Ornos, is a 35-room luxury boutique hotel between Ornos and Korfos beaches, a short walk from the sand. Many rooms and suites have private plunge pools or outdoor hot tubs. There’s a main pool, rooftop sunset bar, gym, and excellent Cave Spa with a hammam. The restaurant focuses on Greek and Cycladic cooking using local and seasonal ingredients. Best for couples who want a quieter boutique hotel rather than being directly on the busy Ornos beachfront.6. Mykonos Cactus
My favorite good-value hotel in Ornos. Rooms are comfortable and modern, with family suites and sea-view suites available. There’s a swimming pool, buffet breakfast, free parking, and complimentary arrival and departure transfers from the airport or ferry port. Ornos Beach, the bus to Mykonos Town, restaurants, and the water taxi are all a short walk away.
