Staying in Platis Gialos
Platis Gialos is the best beach on Mykonos, located roughly 5 km southeast of Mykonos Town. Lively and beautiful with many restaurants and cafes, 2 mini-markets, jet skis and other water sports rentals, and several excellent hotels in the surrounding area. It’s an easy bus ride to and from Mykonos Town, plus it’s on the Mykonos water taxi route that shuttles visitors to other popular beaches including Ornos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Argari and Elia Beaches.
Why Stay in Platis Gialos: The Perfect Mykonos Beach Base
Platis Gialos is, in my opinion, the best all-around beach resort in Mykonos. It offers the perfect blend of a beautiful, family-friendly beach, fantastic restaurants, and incredible convenience for exploring the rest of the island. The vibe is lively and upscale yet more relaxed than the non-stop party at Paradise Beach or the super-exclusive scene at nearby Psarou. The entire beach is lined with hotels and restaurants, meaning you can walk from your room to a sunbed to a wonderful dinner without ever putting on shoes.Best Things to Do in Platis Gialos
• Enjoy Platis Gialos Beach: This is the main attraction. It’s a beautiful, wide stretch of golden sand with calm, crystal-clear water that is perfect for swimming. The beach is organized with comfortable sunbeds and umbrellas for rent from the restaurants, which also provide beachside food and drink service.• Take the Water Taxi to Other Beaches: This is the single best feature of staying in Platis Gialos. A small fleet of traditional wooden boats runs a frequent and fun water taxi service from a dock on the beach. It’s like a public bus on the water, hopping between all the famous south coast beaches, including Ornos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, and Elia. It’s the best way to beach-hop on Mykonos.
• Walk to Neighboring Beaches: Platis Gialos is the central point of a fantastic coastal path. From here, you can easily walk east to the small and charming Agia Anna Beach, the lively Paraga Beach, or west to the ultra-chic Psarou Beach, home of the world-famous Nammos beach club.
Best Restaurants in Platis Gialos
The entire beachfront is lined with excellent restaurants, most with tables right on the sand.• Avli Tou Thodori: A fantastic and very popular restaurant at the western end of the beach, serving excellent, high-quality Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.
• Yialo-Yialo: A classic and reliable choice in the center of the beach, with a huge menu of Greek favorites and fresh seafood. Always busy and always good.
• Blue Myth Restaurant: Located at the Petinos Hotel, this spot is famous for its “Greek Night,” which features live music, and traditional Greek dancing. It’s a pretty good show and a fun night out.
• Bonatsa: A bit more of a trendy, upscale restaurant and beach club. A great spot for a long, leisurely lunch that turns into afternoon cocktails.
Getting Around Platis Gialos
• Walking: The beach area is completely walkable, as is the coastal path that connects you to the neighboring beaches.• Bus: The bus service from Platis Gialos to Mykonos Town is frequent, cheap, and reliable. The bus stop is on the main road just behind the hotels. The bus runs every 30 minutes or so and late into the night, making it easy to go into town for shopping, dinner, or nightlife.
• Water Taxi: This is the best way to get to the other south coast beaches.
• To Port & Airport: Platis Gialos is only a 10 to 15-minute drive by Uber, taxi or pre-booked transfer from the Mykonos Airport and the ferry port.

This luxurious family-friendly hotel features a private beach and gorgeous bi-level saltwater pool facing the sea. The wide range of rooms, suites, and villas feature indoor/outdoor jacuzzis and balconies/terraces, and the higher-end accommodations have shared/private pools as well. Several come with two/three bedrooms. Dining options include two open-air restaurants and a pool bar, and there’s also a full-service spa with sauna and steam, fully-equipped fitness center, and an outdoor jacuzzi. The hotel is located just steps from Platis Gialos beach and a couple of minutes from Psarou beach.
2. Branco Mykonos

Several restaurants and beach clubs, the bus stop, and the water taxi pier are within walking distance.
3. Petinos Beach Hotel
Luxury beachfront hotel situated on the western tip of Platis Gialos beach. All rooms feature King beds, balconies, and sea views. Higher-end suites come with jacuzzis. Amenities include two restaurants and a bar, a pool with a shallow kids area, fully-equipped fitness center, sauna, and complimentary airport/port transfers. There’s also a restaurant serving modern Mediterranean fare, a pool bar, large saltwater pool and a jacuzzi pool with sea views, fitness center, full-service spa with a sauna, hammam and jacuzzi pool, and a beauty salon.
6. Acrogiali Hotel
The Acrogiali Hotel is one of the best-value choices in Platis Gialos, offering a prime location directly on the sand. Run by a wonderfully friendly family, the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, focusing on classic Greek hospitality rather than a trendy scene. Its big perk is the ability to walk out of your room and be on a sunbed on one of Mykonos’s best beaches in less than a minute. The hotel has a lovely beachfront restaurant and provides easy access to the water taxi for exploring other south coast beaches. You can also use the pool at their sister hotel, The George, a bit back from the beach (but if you’re like us you probably won’t bother, with the beach right at your door step). It’s the perfect hotel for travelers who prioritize a fantastic beach location over high-end luxury.
7. Bay Bees Seaview Suites and Homes
Complex of beautiful and spacious holiday homes with one-bedroom or two-bedroom apartments with living areas, full kitchens, and parking. All accommodations except the studio have private terraces and views of the sea. The beach and its restaurants, beach clubs, and water sports are just a couple of minutes away.

The water taxi to nearby beaches is a super fun way to get around.

My wife and I catching the bus in Mykonos Town to Platis Gialos. They’re cheap and run every 30 minutes.

Nikolas Taverna is one of my favorite restaurants in Mykonos, and is a 10 minute walk east along the beach path.
