Mykonos Beach Hotels – My Advice
- Check how close the hotel really is to the beach: Many Mykonos hotels use “beach” in the name or description, but a smaller number are truly on the sand. Before booking, check the hotel’s exact location on a map, look at recent guest photos, and confirm whether you can walk from the room or pool directly to the beach without crossing a road.
- Best truly beachfront hotels: Santa Marina in Ornos is ultra-luxury and has its own private beach. Branco Mykonos in Platis Gialos is a chic 5-star boutique hotel right on the water, with music, sunbeds, and a polished beach-club feel. Mykonos Blanc in Ornos is stylish, intimate, and steps from the sand. Mykonos Blu in Psarou is gorgeous and close to the beach, but it sits above the sand, so expect steps down to the water.
- Choose the right beach area for your trip: Ornos is the best all-around beach town for families and convenience, with a protected bay, calm water, beach restaurants, supermarkets, and frequent buses to Mykonos Town. Platis Gialos is the best beach hub, with a good sandy beach, many hotels, restaurants, and water taxis to other south-coast beaches. Elia is best for a quieter, more upscale resort stay, with a long sandy beach and excellent luxury hotels such as the Myconian Imperial.
- Know the tradeoff before choosing a beach hotel: Beach hotels are better for swimming, sunbeds, pools, and a slower daytime rhythm, but some are less convenient for nightlife, shopping, late dinners, and wandering Mykonos Town. If you plan to go into town most nights, stay in Ornos or Platis Gialos rather than a more isolated beach like Elia.
- Time your trip for the kind of beach vacation you want: The main beach season runs from late May to early October. May and June are sunny and beautiful, but the sea will still be cool. July and August have the hottest weather, highest prices, biggest crowds, and strongest party scene. September is often the best beach month, with warm sea temperatures and a slightly more relaxed feel. The first week of October can be great but the island gets quiet quickly once autumn hits.
- Use the water taxi if you stay on the south coast: If you stay in Ornos or Platis Gialos, you can visit several beaches without renting a car. The south-coast water taxi links Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia, making it easy to beach-hop during the day and return to your hotel for dinner.

My favorite overall beach resort in Mykonos, with a beautiful private sandy beach on sheltered Ornos Bay, two pools, excellent restaurants, a playground, and a first-rate spa. Rooms, suites, and large villas work especially well for families, and many have private pools. Ornos Beach and its restaurants are a short walk away, while the hotel runs a complimentary shuttle into Mykonos Town. If you want a true luxury resort and an excellent beach without being isolated, this is hard to beat.

One of the most romantic beach hotels here, with a superb location directly above calm, protected Psarou Beach. The hotel has a dramatic two-level infinity pool, spa, excellent restaurants, and a serviced section of beach. Many bungalows, suites, and villas add private pools. Nammos and luxury shopping are nearby, while Platis Gialos and its restaurants are an easy walk in the other direction. Expensive, but the beach and setting are genuinely special.

Branco sits on one of the widest and best sections of sand, with a stylish beach club, beautiful pool, very good contemporary Greek restaurant, and excellent breakfast. All rooms have sea views, while top suites add outdoor jacuzzis. The bus to Mykonos Town and the south-coast water taxi are close by. Best for couples and anyone who wants a fashionable beach hotel without committing to the full Psarou scene.

Polished but relaxed luxury hotel with a superb position directly on family-friendly Ornos Beach. There is a sea-view pool, spa, guests-only section of beach, and the excellent Pasaji beach club. Several good restaurants, the Mykonos Town bus, and the water taxi are all within a short walk. One of the easiest luxury beach stays on the island.

My favorite beach hotel for couples. This adults-only, all-suite property has a private beach club on Agios Ioannis Beach, a seafront pool, excellent food, and a quiet, romantic setting. Every suite has a furnished terrace and sea view, while upgraded suites add jacuzzis or private pools. The atmosphere is much calmer than Ornos, Psarou, or Platis Gialos. Guests also have access to the spa and restaurants at sister property Bill & Coo above Megali Ammos.

Stylish, adults-only resort with its own section of Ornos Beach, a large infinity pool, excellent spa with a heated cave pool, and very good dining. Ground-floor rooms and suites add private pools, while upper rooms have balconies and better views. The location is especially useful: restaurants, beach clubs, the water taxi, and buses into Mykonos Town are all close by. More design-focused and grown-up than neighboring family resorts.

Beautiful luxury resort with direct access to a private, serviced beach, a huge sea-view pool, full-service spa, and excellent restaurants. One of the most practical luxury beach hotels on Mykonos, with a small private beach and two excellent sandy beaches within easy walking distance. Some rooms add jacuzzis or shared pools, and connecting rooms work well for families. The Mykonos Town bus stops right outside.

One of the more magical hotels on Mykonos, with a small private beach, beautiful Ornos Bay views, and two picturesque pools. The private beach is more pebbly than sandy, with a cabana extending over the water. Rooms all have terraces and several add private pools. Ornos Beach and its restaurants are about a 10-minute walk away. Romantic and distinctive, and best for travelers who plan to spend plenty of time at the hotel.

One of the best secluded beach hotels on the island. The Wild has a small private beach tucked into a protected cove, a heated infinity pool, an excellent Greek taverna, and stylish rooms and suites, some with private pools. The eastern location is peaceful but far from Mykonos Town, so rent a car if you want to explore.

Relaxed luxury villa resort with a private serviced beach on tiny Glyfadi Beach, one of the quietest corners of Mykonos. Miramar Restaurant serves directly to the beach and there is a spa with an indoor saltwater pool. Wonderful for families and groups who want privacy. There is almost nothing within walking distance, so a rental car is useful.

Quiet setting and excellent sunset views, though the immediate area has limited dining.

Stylish luxury hotel directly on the sand in the center of Ornos Beach, with a guests-only beach area, small pool, spa, and excellent beachfront dining. The central location makes restaurants, buses, and the water taxi easy to reach on foot. Rooms are contemporary and bright, and the atmosphere is sophisticated without being overly formal. A very good choice if beach location matters more than having a sprawling resort.

Friendly boutique hotel with a great location beside Ornos Beach, a courtyard pool, wellness facilities, and an all-day pool bar. This is not as lavish as the big five-star resorts, but the combination of beach, restaurants, bus service, and water taxi access makes it very easy to recommend.

The best beach hotel for partying. Tropicana sits just above Paradise Beach and combines a more affordable lower section with luxurious suites and villas higher on the hill, many with private pools. There are several excellent pools, a spa, restaurant, and bars. Tropicana Beach Club is immediately below, and Cavo Paradiso is nearby. Do not stay here for peace and quiet; stay here because you want the party at your doorstep.

Large luxury resort on the hillside above Elia with a dedicated section of one of Mykonos’s longest sandy beaches. Facilities include multiple pools, a spa, children’s pool, playground, and plenty of dining. It is a strong family resort and works well for guests who want to settle in for long beach days. The downside is the distance from Mykonos Town, though the hotel operates shuttles.

One of the best-value hotels directly on a great Mykonos beach. Acrogiali has an enviable Platis Gialos location, comfortable family rooms, breakfast, and a casual restaurant. It does not have its own swimming pool, but guests can use the pool at sister hotel The George nearby. The beach, water taxi, restaurants, and bus to Mykonos Town are all right at hand. Not ultra-luxury, but exceptionally practical.

A particularly good choice for families and anyone who wants a straightforward beach holiday without paying top luxury rates.

I love Nissaki, but it is not technically a beachfront hotel, which is why it ranks lower on this particular list. What it does have is an excellent position on the headland between Platis Gialos and Psarou, with both beaches about a five-minute walk away. The hotel itself is superb, with several saltwater pools, spa, great views, and spacious suites. For many travelers, having two beaches within easy walking distance is better than being directly on one.

Straightforward upscale resort with an excellent position directly on the broad sands of Elia Beach. There is a private beach section, waterfront restaurant, cocktail bar, and airy rooms and suites. The area is quiet after dark and a long way from Mykonos Town, which is either the appeal or the drawback.

Hippie Fish is one of my favorite places in the area for a long seafood lunch or sunset dinner, and the hotel works well for couples who want something smaller and more relaxed than the big resorts nearby. There is not much nightlife or shopping in the area, but that is part of its charm.

Family-friendly hotel right on quiet Agrari Beach, with a saltwater pool and an all-day restaurant and bar. The setting is peaceful and uncrowded compared with the famous Mykonos beaches, and the swimming is excellent for confident swimmers. The downside is isolation: there is almost nothing else here and no useful regular bus service. Rent a car if you stay more than a night or two.

I’m normally not one to plan our own trips, particularly one as far away with as many moving parts as this, but you’ve made me a believer and convinced her on NOT doing a cruise! We’re planning on going in early June for our honeymoon, ferrying from Rafina to Mykonos, 4 nights in Mykonos staying at the Nissaki Boutique Hotel. Then jumping on the ferry to Santorini and staying at the Sophia Suites for 7 nights before ferrying back to Rafina to head home. Good choices? Anything you’d recommend as “must do’s”? Thanks again, Luke.
I think both are great hotels. With 7 nights I’d recommend that you split that 7 days into two hotels and villages. It is a small hassle to move mid-stay but the benefit of experiencing the island from a different location is worth the effort. Also, even the best breakfast gets a little old after 7 days of the same choices. I’d look at Oia for something similar to Imerovigli (but busier) or Fira if you want some nightlife. If you want something really different then check out Carpe Diem in the town of Pyrgos. Not on the caldera but a very special (and romantic) place to stay. The must do activities in Santorini are the Fira-Oia hike and a boat tour of the caldera.
I’ll be in Mykonos for 1 night on June 2, then sailing between Mykonos and Santorini then spending 2 nights in Santorini. Being my time on both islands is relatively short is there an area of each island that I should stay on to get the most out of my stay?
Stay in Mykonos Town and Fira (or Oia as a second choice). They have the most to do and see and are the hub for the islands’ bus service.

I have found a lot of useful information here already, but now have a question myself: for our traditional annual “mum-and-daughter-trip” we chose Mykonos for this year. We’ll be traveling beginning October for one week, and we are looking for a nice hotel on/very near a beach with good pool facilities, nice views, and easy access to town/local restaurants/boat rentals.
I have done some research and found MANY wonderful places to stay, often reasonably priced as it’s end of season. So we have narrowed down to 3 hotels: Petasos, Mykonos Blu, and Palladium. As my daughter has celiac disease and needs to eat gluten free, we do appreciate a varied breakfast selection with enough gluten free options.
Which of these 3 hotels would you recommend most? Thanks so much!

Those are all great choices. Palladium has the largest pool but is farthest from the beach (though steps from bus stop to Mykonos Town). Petasos has the easiest access to a beach. Mykonos Blu is the trendiest. Honestly, can’t go wrong with any of them.

Very nice but not right on the beach (about a 3 minute walk to Platys Gialos beach, 5 minutes to Psarou beach, and 3 minutes to bus stop to Mykonos Town).

Both are wonderful hotels. Biggest difference is location. Mykonos Princess is off on it’s own a bit – you really need a rental car if you stay here and want to see any of the island. Tharroe is between Mykonos Town and the best beaches on Mykonos. It’s (sort-of) walking distance to Mykonos Town and plenty of buses pass by if you want to hop aboard going in either direction (to town or beach). Choose the Mykonos Princess if you’re happy to sit by the pool all day and relax. Choose Tharroe if you want to see and explore different parts of the island.
What do you think about Petasos Beach Hotel? I’ve heard great things but it’s not on your list.
Petasos is a great hotel just a few minutes from Platys Gialos beach. This list was meant for hotels that were right on a beach (though some are back a little bit so there’s a grey area) – which is why I didn’t include it. But yeah, it’s very nice and pretty darn close to being a beach hotel.
