Mykonos has a good public bus system and, despite the island’s reputation for expensive everything, buses are cheap, safe, and surprisingly useful. If you’re staying in Mykonos Town or at one of the main south-coast beaches, you do not need a rental car.

The one confusing part is that Mykonos Town has two main bus stations: Fabrika and the Old Port. They serve different parts of the island. There is also direct bus service between Mykonos Airport and the New Port during the summer.

Mykonos Bus – My Tips

• Mykonos Town has two bus stations. Fabrika serves the airport, New Port, Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Platis Gialos, Paradise, Paraga, and Super Paradise. The Old Port serves Agios Stefanos, New Port, Ano Mera, Elia, and Kalafatis.
• Fabrika is the station most visitors use. It’s on the south side of Mykonos Town, an easy walk from the center and Little Venice.
• Buses are excellent for the popular beaches. In summer, buses to Ornos, Platis Gialos, and Paradise run every 30 minutes for much of the day and continue late into the night.
• There are direct buses from Mykonos Airport to Fabrika and the New Port. Summer airport service runs roughly from 9am to 10pm. For late-night and early-morning flights, take a taxi or pre-booked transfer.
• The New Port is the ferry port. Nearly all large passenger ferries use the New Port at Tourlos, not the Old Port in Mykonos Town.
• Summer schedules change during the season. Service increases substantially from May into June and July, then drops again in fall. Always check the current timetable for your travel date.
• Don’t plan a tight airport or ferry connection around the bus. Buses are dependable enough for getting around the island, but Mykonos traffic can be terrible in July and August. For an important departure, give yourself plenty of extra time.

Mykonos Bus Stations

There is no single central bus terminal in Mykonos. Most routes start at either Fabrika or the Old Port.

1. Fabrika Bus Station

Fabrika is the main bus station for most visitors. It’s at the southern edge of pedestrian-only Mykonos Town, about a 5-minute walk from the center and roughly 10 minutes from Little Venice.

Buses from Fabrika serve:

• Mykonos Airport
• New Port
• Ornos
• Agios Ioannis
• Platis Gialos
• Paradise Beach
• Paraga Beach
• Super Paradise Beach

If you’re staying in Mykonos Town and heading to one of the popular south-coast beaches, Fabrika is almost certainly where you’ll catch the bus.

2. Old Port Bus Station

The Old Port bus station is on the northern side of Mykonos Town, beside the waterfront.

Buses from the Old Port serve:

• New Port
• Agios Stefanos
• Ano Mera
• Elia Beach
• Kalafatis Beach

The Old Port and Fabrika are about a 15-minute walk apart through Mykonos Town. There is no reason to take a taxi between them unless you have lots of luggage.

Mykonos Bus Routes

These are the most useful Mykonos bus routes for travelers:

Routes to Kalo Livadi and Panormos appear in the Mykonos bus network, but there are no current departure times posted for these routes. I would not plan a day around either bus without checking locally first.

Mykonos Bus Schedule

These are the main summer Mykonos bus schedules. Timetables change through the season, so use these to understand the frequency and operating hours, then check the official Mykonos Bus timetable shortly before traveling.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Mykonos Airport

Fabrika to Airport:
09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:00

Airport to Fabrika:
09:15, 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, 18:15, 19:15, 20:15, 21:15, 22:15

The ride takes about 10 minutes without traffic. The airport is very close to Mykonos Town.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Platis Gialos

In peak summer, buses run about every 30 minutes from late morning through the evening, with late-night service continuing until around 3am.

This is one of the best bus routes on Mykonos. Platis Gialos is also a good starting point for the beach water taxi serving several south-coast beaches.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Ornos & Agios Ioannis

In peak summer, buses run about every 30 minutes for much of the day and evening.

The bus goes first to Ornos and then continues to Agios Ioannis. Late-night buses run until after 2am during the busiest part of summer.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Paradise Beach

Peak-summer buses run every 30 minutes for much of the day.

Service continues very late because of the beach clubs. The final summer bus from Paradise to Fabrika is scheduled for 2:30am.

This is the easiest and cheapest way to get between Mykonos Town and Paradise Beach.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Paraga Beach

Summer buses run approximately hourly from morning until after midnight, with additional service during the busiest periods.

Paraga is also connected to Platis Gialos and other south-coast beaches by water taxi.

Mykonos Town (Fabrika) to Super Paradise

There is direct summer bus service between Fabrika and Super Paradise. The schedule starts at 11am and runs through the evening, with service less frequent than the buses to Paradise, Ornos, and Platis Gialos.

Check the current timetable before heading out, especially if you’re planning to return late.

Old Port to Agios Stefanos

Summer buses run approximately hourly from morning until midnight.

Agios Stefanos is close to the New Port and this is a straightforward route for travelers staying near the beach.

Old Port to Ano Mera

There are frequent daytime buses between Mykonos Town and Ano Mera, with service continuing into the evening.

Ano Mera is the island’s main inland village and home to the Panagia Tourliani Monastery. It’s worth visiting if you have several days on Mykonos and want a break from the beaches and Mykonos Town.

Old Port to Elia Beach

Several buses run each day from late morning through early evening.

Elia is one of Mykonos’ best beaches, but bus service is much less frequent than to Ornos, Platis Gialos, and Paradise. Check the return schedule before settling in for the day.

Old Port to Kalafatis Beach

There are several buses per day in summer, with the schedule concentrated between late morning and early evening.

Again, check the return time before you go. Missing a bus at Kalafatis is more inconvenient than missing one at Platis Gialos or Ornos.

Mykonos Airport Bus

The airport bus is cheap and easy if its schedule matches your flight.

There are two useful direct routes:

• Airport ↔ Fabrika: best for Mykonos Town and onward buses to the southern beaches.
• Airport ↔ New Port: best for passengers connecting directly between a flight and ferry.

In summer, the Airport-Fabrika bus runs hourly from 9:15am to 10:15pm from the airport.

If you’re staying at Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise, or Agios Ioannis, take the airport bus to Fabrika and change buses there.

For an arrival after the last bus, take a taxi or arrange a private transfer. Mykonos Airport is only about 2 km from Mykonos Town, but walking with luggage is a bad idea. The roads are busy, narrow, and not designed for pedestrians.

Mykonos Ferry Port Bus

The New Port at Tourlos is Mykonos’ main ferry port. This is where almost all large ferries from Athens, Santorini, Naxos, Paros, and the other Cyclades arrive and depart.

There are three especially useful New Port bus routes:

• New Port ↔ Old Port
• New Port ↔ Fabrika
• New Port ↔ Mykonos Airport

New Port to Old Port

This is the most frequent ferry-port connection. In summer, buses run approximately hourly from morning until after midnight.

The Old Port is at the northern edge of Mykonos Town. From here, most central hotels are within walking distance, though dragging a suitcase through Mykonos Town’s lanes is less fun than it looks in photos.

New Port to Fabrika

Summer departures run roughly hourly during the day, with a gap in the early evening.

This route is useful if your hotel is near Fabrika or if you need to continue by bus to Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise, Paraga, or Agios Ioannis.

New Port to Mykonos Airport

There is a direct summer bus between the New Port and airport.

In summer, buses leave the New Port at:
09:30, 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30, 17:30, 18:30, 21:30, 22:30.

From the airport to the New Port, buses leave at:
09:15, 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, 18:15, 21:15, 22:15.

The direct bus is great when the timing works, but I would not build a tight flight-to-ferry connection around it. Ferries and flights both have delays, and Mykonos traffic adds another variable.

Mykonos Beach Buses

The bus system is at its best for reaching the popular southern beaches.

The easiest beaches to reach by bus are Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paradise, Paraga, and Agios Ioannis. These all have good connections from Fabrika.

Elia and Kalafatis are also served, but with fewer departures.

For beach hopping, one of my favorite combinations is bus + water taxi. Take the bus from Mykonos Town to Platis Gialos, then use the water taxi to move between south-coast beaches. It’s much more enjoyable than spending the day riding buses back and forth through Mykonos Town.

Mykonos Bus Tickets & Fares

Mykonos buses are inexpensive compared with taxis and private transfers. Fares depend on the route and are only a few euros for most trips.

Tickets are sold at the main bus stations and can also be purchased through the Mykonos Bus website for supported routes.

I prefer buying tickets at the station. It’s simple, and you can confirm the latest departure time at the same time.

If you’re boarding away from a station, have cash with you. Don’t rely on being able to pay by card on every bus.

Taking Luggage on Mykonos Buses

Suitcases are allowed on the buses. Larger bags go in the luggage compartment when the bus has one or as directed by the driver.

The bigger issue is not whether luggage is permitted. It’s whether taking the bus makes sense.

For one person with a normal suitcase arriving during the day, the bus from the airport or ferry port is perfectly reasonable. For a family with four large suitcases, a hotel high above town, or an early-morning departure, book a transfer.

Also remember that much of Mykonos Town is pedestrian-only. The bus might get you to Fabrika or the Old Port, but you could still have a 5 to 15-minute walk over uneven lanes and steps to reach your hotel.

Do Mykonos Buses Run at Night?

Yes, on the busiest summer routes.

This is one of the best things about the Mykonos bus system. During peak summer, buses between Fabrika and Paradise, Platis Gialos, Ornos, and Agios Ioannis continue well after midnight.

The late buses are especially useful for nightlife. Taking the bus is safer and much cheaper than renting an ATV or scooter for a night out.

Do not assume every route has late service. Airport buses finish around 10pm, and the more distant beach routes stop much earlier.

Mykonos Buses in April, May, September & October

Bus schedules are highly seasonal.

July and August have the most frequent service. June and September are also very good for the major routes. Service is reduced in April, May, and October, particularly to beaches.

This matters when reading bus information online. A route that runs every 30 minutes in July could have a very different timetable in May or October.

The official schedules are released and updated route by route, rather than as one fixed annual timetable. Check the schedule again a few days before your trip.

Do You Need a Car in Mykonos?

Not if you’re staying in Mykonos Town, Ornos, or Platis Gialos.

For most first-time visitors, I prefer staying somewhere with good bus service and skipping the rental car. Parking around Mykonos Town is difficult, summer traffic is bad, and the buses reach most places visitors actually want to go.

A car becomes more useful if you’re staying in a remote villa, exploring quieter northern and eastern beaches, or want to move around the island without working around bus schedules.

I don’t recommend renting an ATV or scooter simply because it looks like the Mykonos thing to do. The roads are narrow, traffic is heavy, and driving after drinking is an obvious bad idea.

Are buses good in Mykonos?

Yes. For Mykonos Town, the airport, ferry port, and the major south-coast beaches, the bus system is excellent value and much better than many first-time visitors expect.

Are Mykonos buses crowded?

Yes, especially in July and August. The busiest buses are those connecting Mykonos Town with the airport, ferry port, and popular beaches. Get to the station a little early if you’re traveling at a busy time.

Can I take luggage on a Mykonos bus?

Yes. Normal travel luggage is fine. With several large suitcases, young children, or a hotel far from the bus stop, a taxi or private transfer is much easier.

Should I use the bus to catch a flight or ferry?

Yes, if you leave a generous margin. For a tight connection or an early-morning departure, I would take a taxi or pre-booked transfer instead.

My advice: use the buses confidently for Mykonos Town and the main beaches. Check the timetable the day before any airport or ferry trip, know whether you need Fabrika or the Old Port, and don’t cut an important connection close. For most visitors staying in town or along the south coast, that’s all you need to get around Mykonos without a car.
