Agios Georgios Beach in Naxos

Agios Georgios is the best beach in Naxos for families and anyone who wants to stay near the sand but easily walk into Naxos Town.

Agios Georgios Hotels: My Advice

  • Best Hotel Overall: Nissaki Beach Hotel. Five-star, directly on the sand, excellent restaurant, pool, and only a short walk from central Naxos Town.
  • Best Boutique Hotel with a Pool: Naxian Secret. Eight large suites, excellent pool, quiet setting, and easy walks to both the beach and town.
  • Best for Families: Naxos Resort. Large resort-style pool, kids’ pool, restaurant, and excellent beach-and-town location.
  • Best Suites: Antony Suites. Just off the beach, with kitchens, in-room breakfast, and excellent access to Chora.
  • Best Value on the Beach: Kalergis Studios. Beachfront studios with kitchenettes in one of the best locations at Agios Georgios.
  • Best Small Hotel Near Beach & Town: Korali Boutique Hotel. Simple, comfortable, and extremely convenient.

Why Stay at Agios Georgios Beach?

Agios Georgios is the easiest beach base on Naxos. The northern end of the beach starts immediately south of Naxos Town, so you can spend the day swimming and still walk into Chora for dinner, shopping, bars, the Old Town, and the Portara.

This is the beach I recommend most for families. The sandy bottom stays shallow a long way from shore, the water is relatively sheltered, and there are restaurants and beach bars along the waterfront. The southern end has more open space and watersports.

The tradeoff is that Agios Georgios is not the most beautiful swimming beach on Naxos. Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, and Plaka have clearer, deeper, more dramatically blue water. But none of them gives you the same combination of beach and Naxos Town convenience.

For first-time visitors, short stays, families, and travelers without a car, that tradeoff is usually worth making.

Agios Georgios or Naxos Town?

There is no hard boundary between Agios Georgios and Naxos Town, and booking sites routinely treat hotels in both areas as “Naxos Chora.” I separate them because the experience is different.

Stay at Agios Georgios if having a sandy beach close to your room is important. You can still walk into Naxos Town for restaurants and nightlife.

Stay in Naxos Town proper if the Old Town, Kastro, ferry port, restaurants, and nightlife matter more than having the beach outside the hotel.

For most travelers this is not a difficult choice. The two areas are close enough that you can stay in one and use the other every day. I especially like the northern half of Agios Georgios because it gives you the best of both.

Who Should Stay at Agios Georgios?

Families: This is my first choice on Naxos for families with young children. The shallow water is easy, and being able to walk into town means less time organizing taxis and buses.

Couples: Excellent if you want beach days but enjoy restaurants and bars at night. Couples looking for a more romantic, dedicated beach holiday should also consider Agia Anna or Plaka.

Without a rental car: One of the best choices on the island. Naxos Town, the main bus station, restaurants, shops, and the port are accessible on foot, and buses from town connect to the beaches farther south.

Short stays: Excellent. If you only have two or three nights on Naxos, staying here avoids wasting time going back and forth between a remote hotel and Chora.

Nightlife: Stay toward the northern end of the beach. Agios Georgios itself is relaxed at night, but central Chora and its bars are an easy walk away.

Luxury: Nissaki is the standout. Naxos does not have a strip of large five-star resorts here, which is part of the appeal.

Budget: Very good. There are many studios and small hotels, and being able to walk into town saves money on taxis.

Location, Port Access & Getting Around

You do not need a car at Agios Georgios. In fact, I would avoid keeping one for your entire stay unless your hotel has convenient parking. Walk into town and rent a car for a day or two when you want to explore the mountain villages or remote beaches.

The ferry port is in Naxos Town. Hotels at the northern end of Agios Georgios are close enough that many travelers walk from the port, but I would not make this the deciding factor when choosing a hotel. Summer heat and luggage make a short distance feel much longer. With large suitcases, young children, or mobility issues, take a taxi or arrange a hotel transfer.

Unlike hotels inside the Kastro and Old Town, Agios Georgios properties are much easier with luggage. Streets are flatter, hotels have vehicle access, and there are no medieval stairways to navigate.

If you plan to spend most evenings in Chora, stay toward the northern and central parts of Agios Georgios. The farther south you go, the quieter it gets and the longer the walk back from town.

5 Best Hotels at Agios Georgios Beach

Best place to stay at Agios Georgios Beach near Naxos Town.

Our suite at Nissaki Beach Hotel at Agios Georgios Beach.

1. Nissaki Beach Hotel

The best hotel at Agios Georgios and one of my favorite hotels in Naxos. Nissaki sits directly on the sand at the northern end of the beach, just a few minutes’ walk from the restaurants, shops, and nightlife of Naxos Town. Rooms and suites are stylish and comfortable, many with sea or pool views. There’s a good-sized pool, excellent beachfront restaurant and bar, and breakfast included. The combination of a true beachfront location and easy access to Chora is hard to beat. Best for couples and travelers who want the nicest hotel possible without choosing between the beach and town.

2. Naxian Secret

Naxian Secret is the best small luxury hotel near Agios Georgios for travelers who care more about rooms, privacy, and a good pool than being directly on the sand. The stylish suites have a modern Cycladic look, with several offering private pools or hot tubs. It’s in a quiet area south of Naxos Town, about a 10-minute walk from Agios Georgios Beach and roughly 15 minutes from the center of Chora. Not as convenient as Nissaki for popping back and forth between beach, restaurants, and town, but the accommodations are more private and upscale. Best for couples and honeymoons.

3. Naxos Resort

Naxos Resort near Agios Georgios Beach in Naxos.
Formerly Galaxy Hotel. My favorite choice here for families who want a pool, easy beach access, and enough space to relax without giving up the convenience of Naxos Town. The hotel sits a block back from the central part of Agios Georgios Beach and has a large resort-style pool, children’s pool, gardens, restaurant, and pool bar. Rooms sleep two to four and have private balconies or terraces. The beach is steps away and Chora’s restaurants, shops, and nightlife are an easy walk. Not as intimate or stylish as Nissaki, but better equipped for a traditional family beach holiday.

4. Korali Boutique Hotel

Korali Boutique Hotel near Agios Georgios Beach in Naxos.
One of the best combinations of location, quality, and value at Agios Georgios. Korali is just a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach and about five minutes from the center of Naxos Town, making it particularly good for travelers without a rental car. Rooms are bright, modern, and well maintained; the top-floor apartment is a good choice for families, with two rooms and a large furnished terrace. There’s no resort-style pool or beachfront setting, but you’re paying less than at the top hotels while getting an exceptionally convenient location. Best for couples, families, and anyone who plans to split their time evenly between the beach and Chora.

5. Kalergis Studios

Kalergis Studios at Agios Georgios Beach in Naxos.
One of my favorite good-value beachfront stays in Naxos. Kalergis sits directly on Agios Georgios Beach, with the sand immediately outside and Naxos Town an easy walk away. Rooms are simple but spacious and include kitchenettes and private balconies or patios; the sea-facing rooms are worth the extra cost. There’s no swimming pool, but that’s a small sacrifice when you’re this close to the water. A better choice than the fancier inland hotels if your priority is waking up beside the beach. Especially good for longer stays and travelers who want a kitchenette.

Agios Georgios Hotels for Families

Nissaki is my favorite overall family hotel at Agios Georgios because you get the beach, pool, restaurant, larger suites, and easy walks into Naxos Town.

Choose Naxos Resort instead if a large resort-style pool and more space around the hotel are more important than boutique atmosphere.

Naxian Secret is excellent for families wanting a larger suite and quieter setting, while Kalergis is my favorite lower-cost option close to both beach and town.

See my complete Best Family Hotels in Naxos guide for more choices around the island.

Agios Georgios Hotels for Couples

Choose Nissaki for a luxurious full-service stay with pool and restaurant. Choose Naxian Secret for a quiet boutique hotel with larger suites and pool. For couples looking for a quieter beach holiday rather than easy access to Chora, I would also consider Agia Anna or Plaka.

Agios Georgios Hotels Without a Car

Every hotel on this list works without a rental car. That is one of the biggest reasons to choose Agios Georgios over Stelida, southern Plaka, or the remote beaches farther down the coast.

Nissaki, Kalergis, and Korali are especially convenient if you plan to walk into Chora most evenings. Naxos Resort is still very easy on foot. Naxian Secret is farther inland but remains walkable to both the beach and town.

For trips to Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, and Plaka, walk into Naxos Town and use the bus. Rent a car for a day or two if you want to explore Halki, Filoti, Apeiranthos, Alyko, Pyrgaki, or other remote parts of the island.

Nissaki Beach Hotel. It is the area’s standout five-star property and combines a genuine beachfront location with Naxos Town walkability better than any other luxury hotel on the island.

What is the best Agios Georgios hotel for families?

Nissaki is my first choice for most families. Naxos Resort is better if a large resort pool is the priority. Naxian Secret is excellent for families wanting larger suites and a quieter location, and Kalergis is my favorite value choice.

Is Agios Georgios better than Naxos Town?

Agios Georgios is better if you want a beach holiday; Naxos Town is better if restaurants, nightlife, the Kastro, and port convenience matter most. The northern part of Agios Georgios is close enough to Chora that you can easily have both.
