Beach beds at Yucca Beach Club at Athina Studios & Suites on Plaka Beach.
Naxos is one of the best Greek islands for a beach hotel. You can stay beside a long sandy beach, have good restaurants within walking distance, and still reach Naxos Town, mountain villages, hiking trails, and archaeological sites without much trouble.
My favorite beach hotel for most travelers is Nissaki Beach Hotel at Agios Georgios. It gives you a real sandy beach, pool, excellent restaurant, and Naxos Town within walking distance. For a more traditional beach holiday, I prefer Ammothines on Plaka, Iria Beach Art at Agia Anna, or Virtu and Liana at Agios Prokopios.
The beaches get better for swimming as you move south from Naxos Town, but convenience drops at the same time. Agios Georgios is easiest for combining beach and town. Agios Prokopios has some of the best swimming and an excellent beach-resort setup. Agia Anna is smaller and more charming. Plaka is my favorite beach overall, but it is long and spread out and the southern end is much easier with a rental car.
Naxos Beach Hotels: My Advice
- Best Beach Hotel Overall: Nissaki Beach Hotel (Agios Georgios). Best combination of beach, pool, restaurant, and walking access to Naxos Town.
- Best Luxury Beach Resort: Ammothines Cycladic Suites (Plaka). My favorite upscale resort-style beach stay.
- Best for Families: Nissaki for beach + town; Iria Beach Art for a classic beach holiday.
- Best for Couples: Naxian on the Beach (Plaka). Small, couples-focused, and directly on the sand.
- Best at Agios Prokopios: Virtu Suites for a small upscale stay; Liana Beach Hotel & Spa for more full-service facilities.
- Best Value Beach Hotel: Kalergis Studios (Agios Georgios). Fantastic beachfront location a couple of minutes from Naxos Town.
- Best Remote Beach Resort: Finikas Beach Hotel (Pyrgaki). Quiet, family-friendly, and far from the busier west-coast resorts.
- Best Without a Car: Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, or Agia Anna. Northern Plaka also works well. Southern Plaka, Stelida, and Pyrgaki are much easier with a car.
Which Naxos Beach Should You Stay At?
Agios Georgios: Best for first-time visitors, families with young children, and anyone who wants beach time without giving up Naxos Town. The water is shallow and sandy, and Chora is an easy walk. The beach itself is not as beautiful as Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, or Plaka.
Agios Prokopios: Best all-around choice for a true beach holiday without a car. The swimming is excellent, restaurants and shops are close, and buses run to Naxos Town. I prefer this area to Agios Georgios if beach quality matters more than walking into Chora.
Agia Anna: Best for couples and travelers who want a smaller beach village. The beach is excellent and tavernas sit right along the sand. Agios Prokopios is walkable to the north and Plaka begins just south.
Plaka: Best for a longer beach holiday. It is the longest and, in my opinion, best beach on Naxos. Northern Plaka has more restaurants, beach clubs, and buses. Southern Plaka is quieter and better with a car.
Pyrgaki and the remote south: Best for travelers who want quiet rather than convenience. A car is essential.

The 12 Best Beach Hotels in Naxos
1. Nissaki Beach Hotel – Agios Georgios Beach
My favorite Naxos beach hotel for most travelers. Nissaki sits directly on the sand at the northern end of Agios Georgios, where the beach meets Naxos Town. You can spend the day swimming, walk into Chora for dinner and drinks, and never need a car.
There is a good-sized pool, excellent seaside restaurant, and spacious rooms and suites with private terraces. The Two Unit Suites are especially useful for families.
The beach here is shallow and family-friendly rather than spectacular. Choose Ammothines, Iria, Virtu, or Liana if better swimming water is more important than walking access to Naxos Town.
Best for: first-time visitors, families, couples, beach + town, short stays, and no-car trips.
Not ideal for: travelers who want the island’s most beautiful beach.2. Ammothines Cycladic Suites – Plaka Beach
My favorite luxury beach resort on Naxos. Ammothines sits at the quieter southern end of Plaka with one of the island’s best beaches directly outside.
Minimalist suites and maisonettes are spacious, and larger configurations work extremely well for families and groups. The large beachfront pool, restaurant, and bar make this much more of a resort stay than most Naxos beach hotels.
The main drawback is location. This part of Plaka is quiet and spread out. I strongly recommend having a rental car.
Best for: luxury, families, couples, pool, longer beach stays, and travelers with a car.
Not ideal for: frequent dinners in Naxos Town or travelers wanting a compact beach village.3. Iria Beach Art Hotel – Agia Anna Beach
One of my favorite beach hotels anywhere in Greece. Iria is directly on Agia Anna Beach with excellent swimming, beachfront tavernas, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
Rooms and suites are spacious with private terraces and accommodate up to four guests; two rooms are wheelchair accessible. The open-air restaurant uses produce from the owner’s nearby farm, and there is a small gym and hydrotherapy spa.
There is no large resort pool. The beach is the reason to stay here.
Best for: families, couples, beachfront dining, swimming, no-car trips, and travelers who want a compact beach village.
Not ideal for: travelers whose priority is a large pool or full resort facilities.Review of Iria Beach Art Hotel with Video
4. Naxian on the Beach – Plaka Beach
My favorite Naxos beach hotel for couples. This small couples-focused property has just ten suites beside Plaka Beach, all with sea views and indoor or outdoor hot tubs.
Tortuga restaurant and beach bar sits directly in front, with reserved sunbeds on the sand. This is an easy hotel to settle into for several days without doing very much beyond swimming, eating, drinking, and walking along Plaka. There is no large pool or family setup. Choose Ammothines if you want more resort facilities.
Best for: couples, romantic trips, beachfront stays, private hot tubs, and beach dining.
Not ideal for: families or travelers wanting a conventional resort.5. Virtu Suites – Agios Prokopios Beach
My favorite small luxury hotel at Agios Prokopios. Virtu sits immediately beside one of the best swimming beaches on Naxos, with restaurants, shops, beach bars, and the bus to Naxos Town all close at hand.
The suites are stylish and upscale, with some adding private pools or outdoor hot tubs. There is also a swimming pool, spa, restaurant, and beach service. You get one of Naxos’s best beaches without being stranded away from restaurants or transportation.
Best for: couples, luxury, swimming, beach location, and no-car trips.
Not ideal for: travelers wanting a large resort or extensive family facilities.6. Liana Beach Hotel & Spa – Agios Prokopios Beach
The best full-service beachfront option at Agios Prokopios. Liana sits immediately beside the sand and combines the excellent location with a pool, spa, restaurant, gym, beach service, and parking. Rooms and suites work for both couples and families, with higher categories adding outdoor hot tubs or private pools.
Best for: families, couples, beachfront stays, pool, spa, beach service, and no-car trips.
Not ideal for: travelers looking for a tiny boutique property.7. Sundunes Hotel Naxos – Plaka Beach
One of the best newer luxury beach hotels on Naxos. Sundunes sits directly at Plaka and combines a polished contemporary design with a large pool and suites and villas, including private-pool options.
This is a good alternative to Ammothines for travelers who want to spend most of their trip at the beach and hotel. Like Ammothines, the Plaka location is a feature if you want quiet and a drawback if you expect to visit Naxos Town every evening.
Best for: luxury, couples, families, private pools, quiet beach holidays, and travelers with a car.
Not ideal for: nightlife or frequent trips into Chora.8. Athina Studios & Suites – Plaka Beach
One of the most practical family beach hotels on Plaka. Athina has a garden pool, kids’ pool, pool bar, beach club, and a wide choice of studios, suites, apartments, and maisonettes.
Most rooms include kitchenettes, and the larger two-bedroom units sleep up to five. Plaka Beach is directly outside, with additional restaurants and beach clubs nearby.
Best for: families, beachfront stays, kitchenettes, pool, longer stays, and northern Plaka.
Not ideal for: travelers wanting a luxury resort.9. Kalergis Studios – Agios Georgios Beach
My favorite affordable beachfront stay near Naxos Town. Kalergis sits at the northern end of Agios Georgios, with the beach outside and Chora only a couple of minutes away.
Studios sleep up to four, all have kitchenettes, and most have private balconies or patios. Guests receive discounted rates at the attached Vammos beach club, which is my go-to bar/restaurant on the beach, even when I’m not staying at Kalergis.
This is about location and value, not luxury. If you want to stay on the beach, walk to Naxos Town every night, and keep hotel costs reasonable, Kalergis is hard to beat.
Best for: value, couples, small families, kitchenettes, beach + town, and no-car trips.
Not ideal for: resort facilities or luxury.Review of Kalergis Studios with Video
10. Finikas Beach Hotel – Pyrgaki Beach
My favorite remote beach resort on Naxos. Finikas sits at quiet Pyrgaki near Alyko Cedar Forest, far from the busier beach villages.
There is a pool, playground, spa, restaurant, and sea-view rooms and suites. It works for both families and couples, especially if the goal is to stay put and enjoy the quieter southern coast. Do not book Finikas if you plan to eat dinner in Naxos Town every night. A rental car is essential.
Best for: quiet, families, couples, remote beaches, pool, and travelers with a car.
Not ideal for: nightlife, no-car trips, or frequent visits to Chora.Review of Finikas Beach Hotel with Video
11. Cosmos Hotel – Plaka Beach
Excellent for larger families and groups who want to be close to Plaka. Cosmos is a short walk rather than directly on the beach, but I include it because it is a stronger family hotel than many properties sitting closer to the water.
Suites, two-bedroom apartments, and large villas have kitchens or kitchenettes and private outdoor space. The biggest villas sleep up to ten, and the large freeform pool includes a children’s section. Restaurants and beach clubs are nearby. I would still rent a car if you plan to explore much beyond northern Plaka.
Best for: families, large groups, villas, kitchens, pool, and longer stays.
Not ideal for: travelers who require a true beachfront hotel.12. Archon Seaside Retreat – Plaka Beach
A good self-catering choice at the quiet southern end of Plaka. Rooms, studios, and one- and two-bedroom houses sit directly across from the sand and all have sea views.
Studios and houses have full kitchens, while rooms have smaller kitchenette setups. The pool is surrounded by gardens and the whole property feels quiet and private. There is no restaurant or breakfast, and this end of Plaka is isolated enough that I strongly recommend a car.
Best for: quiet, self-catering, couples, families, longer stays, and travelers with a car.
Not ideal for: restaurant choice, nightlife, or no-car trips.Other Good Hotels Near the Beach
18 Grapes Hotel – Agios Prokopios
One of the best hotels in Naxos, but not a beachfront stay. It sits about a five-minute walk from Agios Prokopios Beach and has a large pool, rooftop jetted pool, spa, restaurant, sunset views, and rooms with private pools or hot tubs. Choose it over Virtu or Liana if the hotel itself matters more than being immediately beside the sand.Melidron Hotel & Suites – Agios Prokopios
One of my favorite family hotels at Agios Prokopios. There is a pool and kids’ pool, good family suites, breakfast, and an accessible room with a roll-in shower. The beach, restaurants, shops, and bus stop are about five minutes away on foot.Naxos Island Escape – Plaka Beach
Small romantic hotel less than 200 meters from Plaka Beach. Sea-view suites have private terraces, Honeymoon Suites add indoor jacuzzis, and breakfast uses produce from the hotel’s garden. A good choice for couples who want quiet and personal service rather than a pool or full resort.Naxos Resort – Agios Georgios Beach
The best choice near Naxos Town if a large resort pool matters. The hotel is only a minute or two from Agios Georgios Beach and about ten minutes from central Chora. Rooms are comfortable rather than luxury, but families get a large pool, restaurant, spa, and breakfast.Korali Boutique Hotel – Agios Georgios Beach
Small, comfortable hotel in a superb location close to both the beach and Naxos Town. The top-floor apartment sleeps four and has a sea-view roof terrace and jetted bath.Agios Prokopios Hotel – Agios Prokopios Beach
A straightforward, good-value family hotel a short walk from the beach. There is a large pool, kids’ pool, family apartments, breakfast, parking, and easy access to restaurants, shops, and buses.Best Naxos Beach Hotels for Families
Nissaki is my favorite for most families. The combination of shallow beach, pool, family suites, restaurants, and walking access to Naxos Town is unusually convenient.
Choose Iria Beach Art if better swimming and a more traditional beach-village setting matter more than Naxos Town access.
Choose Ammothines for a luxury resort stay on Plaka, Athina for beachfront rooms with kitchenettes, and Cosmos for larger families or groups needing apartments and villas.
See my complete Best Family Hotels in Naxos guide.
Best Naxos Beach Hotels for Couples
Naxian on the Beach is my favorite couples-focused beach hotel. It is small, directly on Plaka, and centered around the room, beach, restaurant, and private outdoor space.
Choose Virtu Suites if you want Agios Prokopios swimming and more restaurants within easy walking distance.
Choose Nissaki if you want the beach but expect to spend most evenings in Naxos Town.
For a quieter high-end resort stay, Ammothines and Sundunes are excellent, but I would rent a car.
Best Naxos Beach Hotels Without a Car
Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, and Agia Anna are the easiest beach areas without a rental car.
At Agios Georgios, Nissaki and Kalergis let you walk into Naxos Town.
At Agios Prokopios, Virtu and Liana put the beach, restaurants, shops, and bus within an easy walk.
At Agia Anna, Iria gives you a compact village, beachfront restaurants, and easy walks toward both Agios Prokopios and Plaka.
Northern Plaka also works without a car, but transportation becomes less convenient the farther south you stay.
Naxos Beach Hotels: FAQs
What is the best beach hotel in Naxos?

What is the best beachfront hotel in Naxos for couples?
Naxian on the Beach. It has just ten couples-focused suites directly beside Plaka Beach. Virtu Suites is the better choice if you want more restaurants and easier bus access nearby.
What is the best beach hotel in Naxos for families?
Nissaki Beach Hotel is my favorite overall. Iria Beach Art is better if swimming quality and a classic beach-village setting are the priorities. Ammothines is the best luxury family beach resort, while Cosmos works especially well for large families and groups.
Which Naxos beach is best for hotels?
Agios Georgios is best for beach + town, Agios Prokopios for swimming + convenience, Agia Anna for village atmosphere, and Plaka for a longer and quieter beach holiday. There is no single best beach area for everyone.
Do I need a car for a Naxos beach hotel?
Not at Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, or Agia Anna. Northern Plaka is also manageable without one. For southern Plaka, Pyrgaki, and most isolated beach resorts, I strongly recommend renting a car.
When should I book a beach hotel in Naxos?
For July and August, I would book the best beachfront rooms, family suites, and villas six months ahead when possible. For June and September, three or four months ahead is safer for the most popular hotels. Beachfront rooms disappear before ordinary inland rooms.
What Are the Best Beaches on Naxos?
Naxos has some of the best beaches in the Greek Islands. Agios Georgios is the easiest beach from Naxos Town, while the beaches get longer and quieter as you continue south toward Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, and Plaka.
The beaches I recommend most are Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka, and Mikri Vigla.
Agios Georgios is best for young families and walking access to Naxos Town. Agios Prokopios has some of the island’s best swimming. Agia Anna combines excellent swimming with a charming beach-village atmosphere. Plaka is the longest and my favorite beach overall. Mikri Vigla is the best choice for windsurfing and kitesurfing, with a more sheltered swimming beach on the southern side.

Thanks for all the great info! I’m interested in Naxos, and am wondering what your experiences have been with hiking there. Are the paths well marked? Do you have a favorite hike there? I did quite a bit of gorge hiking in Crete where everything was pretty easy to find, but I know that’s not the case everywhere in Greece. Appreciate the help!
Naxos is a fantastic island for hiking, offering a different experience than Crete’s renowned gorges. While Crete has those dramatic, deep canyon hikes, Naxos provides a great network of trails that often connect traditional villages, ancient sites, and stunning mountain views. Generally, the hiking paths on Naxos are well marked. The island has put effort into developing and maintaining its “Routes of Cultural Interest,” which are often well-signed with route numbers or cultural symbols. However, like anywhere in Greece, some less-traveled paths might be less clear, and markers can sometimes be faded or missing. It’s always smart to carry a map or use a reliable hiking app for extra reassurance, especially if you venture off the main routes. Don’t expect the continuous, perfectly maintained paths of a national park in some countries, but they are generally good for Greek standards.
My favorite hike on Naxos, and one that is quite popular for good reason, is the Mount Zas (Mount Zeus) summit hike. It’s the highest peak in the Cyclades, and the views from the top are simply incredible, stretching across Naxos and out to other islands. This hike is particularly rewarding due to its mythological significance, as legend has it that Zeus, the king of the gods, grew up in a cave on the slopes of this mountain; you can visit the Cave of Zeus as part of the hike, which adds a cool historical and mythological element. The trail also takes you through diverse landscapes, from olive groves and traditional stone paths to more rocky, exposed sections near the summit, culminating in a 360-degree panoramic view of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding Cycladic islands from the top. The main starting point for this hike is the village of Filoti, which is easily reachable by bus from Naxos Town (Chora). There are a few different routes to the summit from Filoti, varying in difficulty and length, so you can choose one that suits your fitness level; regardless of which route you choose, be prepared for a decent climb.
When hiking in Naxos, always start early, especially in warmer months, to avoid the most intense sun. Carry plenty of water, even for seemingly short hikes, as there aren’t always places to refill along the trails. Wear appropriate footwear, as sturdy hiking shoes or boots are essential given that paths can be rocky and uneven. Sun protection, including a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, is a must. Also, check the weather, as high winds can be common on Naxos, especially on exposed mountain trails and on Mt Zas in particular. While Naxos doesn’t have the dramatic gorges of Crete, its varied terrain, ancient pathways, and rewarding views make it an excellent destination for hikers. The village-to-village walks, like those around Chalki or through the Tragea valley, are highly recommended for a more cultural and less strenuous experience.
