Megali Ammos Beach is only 500m from Mykonos Town. Mellow and beautiful, it can often be windy. Great taverna right on the beach.
Staying in Megali Ammos
Megali Ammos is the closest real beach area to Mykonos Town, about 500 meters south of Chora and close enough to walk to the windmills, Little Venice, restaurants, bars, and Fabrika bus station. It works best as a Mykonos Town alternative: quieter, more open, and better for sea views, but still close to the action.
The beach has nice sand and good swimming in calm weather, though it is exposed and can be windy, especially when the meltemi is blowing. This is not a full beach-resort area with rows of hotels opening directly onto the sand. Most hotels sit on the hillside above or behind the beach, so check the exact location carefully if easy beach access matters.
The walk into Town is short but not perfect. Parts of the road have no proper sidewalk, and it can feel uncomfortable after dark or with luggage. I like Megali Ammos for couples and first-timers who want to be near Chora without sleeping in the busiest lanes, but I would choose Ornos or Platis Gialos for a true beach-focused stay.
