Agios Prokopios Hotels: My Advice
- Best Hotel at Agios Prokopios: Virtu Suites. Directly beside the beach, upscale, small, and perfectly placed for swimming, restaurants, shops, and the bus to Naxos Town.
- Best Luxury Hotel: 18 Grapes Hotel. The strongest overall hotel experience in the area, with two pools, spa, restaurant, excellent rooms, and private-pool options.
- Best Beachfront Hotel: Virtu Suites. Choose it over 18 Grapes if immediate beach access is more important than having a larger full-service hotel.
- Best for Families: Melidron Hotel & Suites. Pool, kids’ pool, family suites, breakfast, and an excellent location close to the beach and bus stop.
- Best Full-Service Beach Hotel: Liana Beach Hotel & Spa. Right beside the sand with pool, spa, restaurant, beach service, and rooms for couples and families.
- Best for Large Families & Groups: Iliada Villas. Large villas with kitchens and a pool, but the location is on the Stelida outskirts rather than in the center of Agios Prokopios.
- Best Value: Agios Prokopios Hotel. Good pool, family rooms, easy beach access, and lower rates than the luxury hotels.
- Best Without a Car: Virtu Suites, 18 Grapes, Liana, Melidron, or Agios Prokopios Hotel. All put the beach, restaurants, shops, and bus to Naxos Town within an easy walk.
Agios Prokopios is my favorite Naxos base for a classic beach holiday. The swimming is excellent, the beach has both lively and quiet sections, and the village has enough restaurants, cafés, beach bars, shops, and buses that you do not need a rental car.
It is more beach-focused than Naxos Town or Agios Georgios. Choose Agios Prokopios if swimming and beach time are the priority. Choose Agios Georgios if you want to walk into Chora every evening. Choose Agia Anna if you prefer a smaller, more charming beach village with tavernas close to the sand. Choose Plaka for a longer, quieter beach and more space.
Where to Stay in Agios Prokopios
The southeastern end of the beach is the best place to stay for most travelers. This is where the village, restaurants, shops, bus stops, beach clubs, and most hotels are concentrated. You can walk everywhere locally and take the bus into Naxos Town.
The beach continues northwest away from the village and gets progressively quieter and less developed. That stretch is wonderful for swimming but not where I would stay if restaurants and easy transportation are important.
There is also a meaningful distinction between hotels directly beside the beach and properties set back inland. Virtu and Liana have the strongest immediate relationship with the sand. 18 Grapes and Melidron are only a short walk away and compensate with larger pools, spa facilities, and a quieter setting.
Iliada Villas is different. It is marketed around Agios Prokopios and the beach is walkable, but the property is actually on the Stelida side of the area, roughly 700 to 900 meters from the beach. I like it for families wanting large villas and kitchens, but not for travelers whose priority is stepping outside into the village every evening.
Agios Prokopios or Naxos Town?
Stay in Agios Prokopios if the beach is the main reason you’re coming to Naxos. The swimming is considerably better than at Agios Georgios, and you have enough restaurants and bars nearby that there is no need to commute into town every night.
Stay in Naxos Town if you want the widest restaurant choice, nightlife, shopping, the Kastro, the Portara, and easy ferry logistics outside your door.
The bus makes the compromise easy. Agios Prokopios has regular summer service to Naxos Town, Agia Anna, and Plaka. I would not rent a car just to get around the main west-coast beach strip.
For a two- or three-night first visit, I still lean toward Naxos Town or Agios Georgios unless beach time is clearly the priority. For four nights or longer and a proper beach holiday, Agios Prokopios becomes much more appealing.
Agios Prokopios or Agia Anna?
I prefer Agios Prokopios for swimming and Agia Anna for atmosphere. Agios Prokopios has a longer beach, more space, more hotel choice, and a slightly larger resort setup. Agia Anna is smaller and prettier as a village, with tavernas right beside the sand and a little fishing pier.
They are close enough to walk between, so this is not a high-stakes decision. Families and serious beach people should lean toward Agios Prokopios. Couples who care more about beachfront dining and village charm should also look at Agia Anna.
Do You Need a Car in Agios Prokopios?
No. Agios Prokopios is one of the easiest beach areas on Naxos without a rental car. The beach, restaurants, cafés, markets, and bus stops are concentrated around the village, and buses connect to Naxos Town, Agia Anna, and Plaka.
Rent a car for a day or two if you want to explore Halki, Filoti, Apeiranthos, the Temple of Demeter, Alyko, Pyrgaki, or the mountain roads. Keeping one for the entire stay is unnecessary unless your hotel is on the outskirts or you plan to explore every day.

The 6 Best Hotels at Agios Prokopios Beach
1. Virtu Suites
My favorite hotel specifically for staying at Agios Prokopios Beach. Virtu’s advantage is location: it sits immediately beside one of the best swimming beaches on Naxos, with the restaurants, shops, beach bars, and bus stop of Agios Prokopios right outside.
This is why I rank it #1 here even though 18 Grapes ranks higher on my island-wide Best Hotels in Naxos list. 18 Grapes is the stronger full-service hotel; Virtu is the better Agios Prokopios beach stay.
Suites are stylish and upscale, and some add private plunge pools or hot tubs. Facilities include a pool, spa with hammam and sauna, restaurant and beach bar, and direct access to the beach.
Choose Virtu if you want to wake up, walk a few steps to the sand, spend the afternoon swimming, and go out for dinner without thinking about transportation.
Best for: couples, luxury, beachfront stays, swimming, restaurants, and no-car trips.
Not ideal for: travelers who want a large resort or lots of space for children to run around.2. 18 Grapes Hotel
The best full-service luxury hotel in Agios Prokopios. 18 Grapes is a five-star boutique property about 200 meters from the beach, close enough that the sand, restaurants, shops, and bus stop are all an easy walk.
The hotel has 18 rooms and suites, two levels of swimming pools, a spa, fitness center, rooftop bar and restaurant, and excellent sunset views. Several rooms add private heated pools or outdoor hot tubs.
I rank 18 Grapes higher than Virtu on my island-wide hotel list because it offers a more complete luxury-hotel experience. On this page, Virtu gets the top spot because its beach location is better. If you care more about hotel facilities, pools, spa, and room choice than having the sand immediately outside, choose 18 Grapes.
Best for: couples, luxury, pools, spa, private-pool rooms, and travelers who still want easy beach access.

3. Liana Beach Hotel & Spa
The best choice if you want a full-service hotel immediately beside the beach. Liana faces Agios Prokopios Beach and combines a strong location with more facilities than most beachfront properties here.
There is a swimming pool with a children’s section, spa, gym, restaurant and bar, beach service, parking, and a wide range of rooms and suites. Higher categories add outdoor hot tubs or private pools, while larger suites accommodate families of four.
Liana is not as intimate as Virtu or as polished overall as 18 Grapes, but the combination of beach access, pool, spa, family rooms, and village convenience is excellent.
Best for: families, couples, beachfront stays, pool, spa, beach service, and travelers without a car.
Not ideal for: travelers looking for a tiny boutique hotel.4. Melidron Hotel & Suites
My favorite Agios Prokopios hotel for families who want a smaller property. Melidron is about a five-minute walk from the beach and has a pool with a children’s section, breakfast, comfortable rooms and suites, and a useful bus stop nearby.
The larger family accommodations are the reason to look closely at Melidron. The two-bedroom Family Suite works well for parents who do not want everyone sleeping in one room. There is also an accessible room with a roll-in shower and ramp access; contact the hotel directly if you need it.
You sacrifice a beachfront setting, but the walk is short and the village’s restaurants, shops, and beach clubs are all close. For families, I prefer Melidron to many nominally fancier hotels because the combination of rooms, pool, beach access, and transportation is so practical.
Best for: families, pool, value within the upscale category, no-car trips, and travelers wanting a quieter hotel near the beach.
Not ideal for: travelers who want sea views or sand directly outside the room.5. Iliada Villas
The best option for large families and groups who want a villa rather than a conventional hotel room. Iliada has eleven spacious villas and maisonettes built around a large infinity pool, with kitchens, living areas, washing machines, and private outdoor space. Larger villas sleep up to six, and some have outdoor hot tubs.
The important drawback is location. Iliada is technically in Stelida, on the outskirts of Agios Prokopios, roughly 700 to 900 meters from the beach. You can walk to the sand, but this is not the same experience as staying at Virtu, Liana, or one of the village hotels.
I would choose Iliada for a family that values space, kitchens, laundry, parking, and a pool. I would not choose it for a couple wanting to walk out of the hotel directly into the beach-village scene.
Best for: large families, groups, kitchens, longer stays, pool, parking, and travelers with a car.

6. Agios Prokopios Hotel
My favorite straightforward midrange option in the village. Agios Prokopios Hotel does not compete with the luxury properties above on room design or service, but it gets the practical things right: pool, children’s pool, family apartments, parking, and an easy walk to the beach, restaurants, supermarket, and bus.
Two-bedroom apartments work well for families, and the pool area gives you an easy alternative when young kids have had enough of the beach.
This is the hotel I would choose when location and price matter more than luxury. You can have a very easy no-car Naxos holiday here without paying for spa facilities or private pools you do not need.
Best for: value, families, pool, village location, parking, and no-car stays.

Hotels I No Longer Rank Among the Best
Lagos Mare and Naxos Island Hotel are still legitimate Agios Prokopios options, but I no longer think either belongs in the short list of hotels I would recommend first.
Lagos Mare is comfortable and family-friendly but sits farther inland than the strongest alternatives. Melidron gives families a more convenient beach-and-village location, while Iliada is better if space and villa facilities are the priority.
Naxos Island Hotel has an excellent central location close to the beach and useful facilities, but I prefer Virtu, 18 Grapes, and Liana for an upscale stay. Being five-star on paper is not enough reason for me to rank it above hotels I think offer a better overall experience.
Best Agios Prokopios Hotels for Families
Melidron is my first choice for most families. The pool and children’s pool are useful, family suites solve the sleeping-space problem, and the beach, restaurants, and bus stop are all close.
Choose Liana if you want to be right beside the beach and prefer a full-service hotel with spa and restaurant.
Choose Iliada Villas if you want much more space, a full kitchen, laundry facilities, and a villa-style stay and do not mind being on the Stelida outskirts.
For families on a smaller budget, Agios Prokopios Hotel is the best-value choice on this list.
For families with very young children, I would also compare Agios Prokopios with Agios Georgios. Agios Georgios has shallower water and the big advantage of being walkable to Naxos Town. See my Best Family Hotels in Naxos guide.
Best Agios Prokopios Hotels for Couples
Virtu Suites is my favorite for a romantic beach stay. The location immediately beside the sand is hard to improve, and the hotel is small enough to feel intimate.
Choose 18 Grapes if pools, spa facilities, restaurant, private-pool rooms, and a more complete five-star hotel experience matter more.
Liana is a good alternative for couples who specifically want beachfront views and hotel facilities but do not need the boutique atmosphere of Virtu.
If atmosphere outside the hotel is as important as the hotel itself, also look at Agia Anna. I prefer Agia Anna to Agios Prokopios for couples who want beachfront tavernas and a smaller village feel.
Agios Prokopios Hotels Without a Car
Virtu, 18 Grapes, Liana, Melidron, and Agios Prokopios Hotel all work very well without a rental car. The beach, restaurants, cafés, shops, supermarket, and bus stops are within walking distance.
The bus is particularly useful here. Naxos Town is an easy ride north, while Agia Anna and Plaka are farther south on the same main coastal route.
Iliada is the exception on this list. You can stay there without a car, but I prefer having one because of the Stelida location and longer walk to the village.
