Helicopter Flights: Things to Know

  • Helicopter flights between Mykonos and Santorini are magical. Book early.
  • Cost of helicopter flights: Not cheap. Prices start at about €600/per person.
  • Mykonos-Santorini and Santorini-Mykonos ferries are by far the cheapest way to get between the two islands.
  • There is no substantial difference between flying from Mykonos to Santorini or Santorini to Mykonos. Though there is something just a little more special about approaching Santorini’s caldera for the first time from the air.
  • There are also incredible helicopter tours of Santorini and Mykonos if you don’t need transportation between Mykonos and Santorini.
  • If I could only do a helicopter tour or a Santorini boat tour of the caldera then I would choose the boat tour. Both are great but the boat tours last longer and get you closer to the caldera cliffs.

A helicopter is the fastest, easiest, and most exciting way to get from Mykonos to Santorini (or Santorini to Mykonos) and offers incredible views of both islands. Touring Santorini or Mykonos by helicopter is a highlight of coming to the Greek islands. If you do a helicopter ride from one island to the other you save yourself a ferry trip and get an incredible helicopter tour. It’s sort of two-for-one. The flight takes about 40 minutes and is on a deluxe twin-engine helicopter (there are differently-sized helicopters depending on the size of your group).

  1. Helicopter Transfer between Mykonos and Santorini

    Hi Dave,
I would like to book a helicopter transfer between Mykonos and Santorini on July 5 and back from Santorini to Mykonos on July 9, but the price is $2916 for 2 people each way. Do you know of any companies that offer a cheaper rate? Thanks!

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

Yeah, helicopter fares have been very expensive this year. Those are the sort of rates I’ve been seeing. Not much you can do about it as more people are traveling by helicopter recently (as avoiding the large crowds on the ferries is appealing).

  2. Day Trip from Mykonos to Santorini

Hey Dave, we’re Traveling to Mykonos from May 31 – June 6 and were thinking about visiting Santorini just for the day. Which ferry do you recommend and which day of the week?

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

There is no good way to do a day trip from Mykonos to Santorini (or Santorini to Mykonos). The ferry schedules just do not work for day trips. At best you’d get an hour or two on the island you’re visiting and most of that will be consumed by bus or taxi transportation. I know the helicopter flights are expensive and out of many people’s budget but they are the only way to do a Santorini-Mykonos day trip.

  3. How Long Is The Helicopter Ride Between Santorini and Mykonos

How long is the helicopter ride from Mykonos to Santorini? We will be traveling in the later part of September. When will they start taking reservations?

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

The flight between Mykonos and Santorini takes about 40 to 50 minutes. They should start taking reservations soon: late January or February.

  4. Helicopter Flight from Santorini to Mykonos

Just did this flight on our honeymoon. Was looking for something Wow!, and this was it. Amazing. Thanks for the suggestion.

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

Great to hear. Glad it was helpful.

  5. Private Transport from Mykonos to Santorini

The helicopter ride is sold out for the day we need to go to Santorini. Can we hire a private yacht charter from Mykonos to Santorini?

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

Boats require a special license to transfer people from one point to another on the Greek islands. Basically, private boats need to return passengers to their port of origin. Passengers can not be left on a different island from where they started. It’s a little more complicated than that but for most travelers, that’s the gist of it.

  6. Helicopter Ride from Mykonos to Santorini

When you fly from Mykonos to Santorini on a helicopter do you get to see the caldera and volcano?

    1. Santorini Dave The Hotel Expert

Absolutely. You’ll get a great view of caldera, cliffs, volcano, and the entire island. Lots to see. Depending on the route you’ll also fly near/over Ios, Naxos, and Paros.
