Updated: July 30, 2017

  • Astra Suites is one of my 5 favorite hotels in Santorini.
  • Incredible caldera and sunset views.
  • Friendly service and luxurious rooms.

Review of Astra Suites

Beautifully located on a superb stretch of the caldera, Astra looks out towards Oia and the sunset with the caldera cliffs perched all around. Suites and rooms are some of the most luxurious on the island. Two great restaurants are steps from the front gate and half-dozen more are within a 10 minute walk. The pool is not huge but generous by Santorini standards and many suites have private hot tubs.

Good Restaurants Close to Astra Suites: Athenian House (best view, 1 minute walk) • Mezzo (1 minute walk) • Avocado (wonderful local food and open for lunch, 5 minute walk) • Anogi (5 minute walk)

Notes:
– A wide range of room options spread over 7 levels in total
– Studio, Junior Suite, Senior Suite, Family Suite, Superior Suite, Honeymoon Jacuzzi suite, Pool suite, Architect’s house
– New private Astra Villa (pool suite) brand new for 2017
– Excellent facilities: one of the best on Santorini
– One restaurant – the Astra Restaurant located at mid-level (Mediterranean/Greek fusion cuisine)
– Private dining may be ordered on guest’s own patio
– Breakfast brought to guest’s private patios
– One heated infinity pool. Heated in shoulder seasons only.
– Pool bar available for drinks.
– Health Wellness Spa and Relaxation Area (operates 09:00 to 21:00)
– Can be hard to ‘find’ as it is located down the slope of the caldera rim with only a small sign to announce it. Best to call ahead to get the luggage porter to meet your arrival.
– Resort offers transfer by minivan

4 Questions and Comments

  1. Getting from Ferry Port to Astra Suites

Hi Dave, I will arrive at Santorini next week by ferry and I will stay at Astra Suites. Can you tell me the best way to go from the ferry pier to Astra Suites? Considering relation between cost and quality? There’s any public transportation?

The easiest and most expensive is to book through the hotel. Just send them an email at [email protected] telling them what ferry you’re on. They’ll meet you at the ferry port and take you directly to the hotel. The big plus is that they’ll take your luggage down to the hotel as there are many steps and it’s a little tricky to find the first time. Next easiest is a taxi but you won’t get help with the luggage. And the cheapest is definitely taking the bus. There is always a bus waiting when a ferry arrives but it does take 10/15 minutes to fill up and get on its way. It will take you to Fira. Then you switch buses and get on the one heading to Oia but get off in Imerovigli (about 10 minutes). You’re still a bit of a walk from Astra but doable if you don’t have too much luggage. If you call Astra when you arrive in Imerovigli by bus or taxi they’ll send someone up the steps to meet you and help with luggage.

  2. Best Restaurant Near Astra Suites

If you could only choose one restaurant near Astra where would be the best place to eat?

Mezzo, then Athenian House or Avocado (no view) if Mezzo is fully booked.
