Hotel Review

Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa – Contemporary, luxury hotel with a saltwater infinity pool, expansive spa, casual and haute cuisine, and sunset sea views.

A design-forward hotel with a crisp, nautical style, Mykonos Riviera welcomes guests with a variety of cosmopolitan rooms, suites, and maisonettes – most with private jacuzzis, pools, or both. The hotel boasts one of the island’s rare, heated infinity pools with stunning sunset views over the marina and served all day by the Pool Club, featuring casual, Mediterranean fare and inspired, craft cocktails. Greek-Lebanese fine dining is on offer nightly and complemented by an extensive selection of Greek wines. The hotel’s high-end spa adds a thalassotherapy pool and a traditional, Turkish hammam with a host of wellness “rituals” based on ancient Greek healing practices. Ideally located within easy reach of Mykonos Town yet removed from the crowds.

Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa – Location

  • Area: Mykonos Riviera sits on the main road in Tourlos, directly behind the marina at the New Port. From the ferry terminal, it’s a 10-minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is about 1 km from Agios Stefanos Beach, 1.5 km from the Old Port, and 2 km from the heart of Mykonos Town, where most of the island’s restaurants, bars, and nightclubs are.
  • How to Get There: Mykonos Riviera is located on the main road connecting Mykonos Town to the ferry port, making it very easy to reach by SeaBus, taxi, or driving yourself. It is approximately 700m from the Mykonos ferry port (New Port), and 5 km from the Mykonos Airport to the hotel.

Visitors arriving by ferry can take the hotel’s complimentary shuttle from the New Port directly to the hotel. Another option is taking SeaBus from the ferry terminal to the marina station, from where it is just a quick walk to reach the hotel. The SeaBus departs every half hour; the fun little boat trip takes 3 minutes and costs €2.

Taxis are available from the port or airport, though there are only about 30 taxis serving the whole island, so there is often a long wait; schedule a ride through a private car service in advance to avoid this (I use and recommend Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Mykonos are not metered, so be sure to agree on a price with the driver before setting out. A taxi from the port or airport to Mykonos Riviera will cost roughly €20-25. Booking through a private car service will cost only a bit more – about $38 (€31) – and is worth it to avoid the wait and for the convenience of paying ahead. The hotel also offers an airport shuttle or private transfer; contact Mykonos Riviera directly to arrange an airport pickup.

From the airport, you may reach the hotel by bus. Most of the travel season, there is a bus running 11 times a day from the airport to Fabrika (Mykonos Town) before continuing on to Tourlos/New Port. During high season (July and August), a supplemental route runs 4 times a day between the airport and New Port without a stop in Fabrika. The bus from the Airport to Fabrika should take around 10 minutes, and the bus from Fabrika to the New Port should take just under 10 minutes. Tell the driver to drop you off at Mykonos Riviera. It is about a minute’s walk from the bus stop to the hotel. The total trip should cost about €4 and take under an hour, depending on how long you wait at Fabrika for the New Port bus. Tickets are purchased (cash only) on the bus or from a manned kiosk at the terminal.

For those who prefer to drive themselves, we recommend renting a car either at the airport on arrival or in Mykonos Town. We strongly recommend reserving a vehicle in advance, especially if you require automatic transmission. Upon arrival at the hotel, Mykonos Riviera offers free parking.
  • Handy to: New Port/ferry terminal, Agios Stefanos Beach, Chora/Mykonos Town’s dining, nightlife, and shopping.

Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa – The Basics

  • Beach: The nearest beach to Mykonos Riviera is Agios Stefanos, a 15-minute walk north past the New Port. This small, sandy beach is partially organized with a lifeguard on duty, a small beach club, and a couple of restaurants nearby. Heading 2 km south on foot or by SeaBus leads to is a small beach at the Old Port (1 of 3 beaches in Mykonos called Agia Anna). Though it is an unorganized beach with no bar or restaurant service, there is a lifeguard there and it’s just a few steps to several casual restaurants and bars. The closest fully organized beach is at Ornos, a 10-minute drive away. This is a popular beach with golden sand, clear water, and plenty of restaurants and beach clubs with sunbed and umbrella rentals. Ornos Beach and several other great beaches on Mykonos’ south end can be reached by bus. Take the southbound bus to Fabrika, the main bus station in Mykonos Town, then transfer to a second bus to Ornos, Platis Gialos, Paraga, Paradise, or Agios Ioannis Beach. Or take the SeaBus from the marina to the Old Port bus station to reach the northern and eastern beaches (Panormos, Elia, Kalo Livadi, and Kalafati), which tend to be less crowded.

Signature 1 Bedroom Spa Pool Suites, Signature 2 Bedroom Spa Pool Suites, Courtyard 2 Bedroom Maisonettes, and Secret 3 Bedroom Maisonettes boast both private outdoor jacuzzis and pools. The 8 Galaxy Retreat Rooms and Galaxy Retreat Suites all share a semi-private pool available only to the guests of these room types. Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa – Amenities

  • Pool: The hotel offers a 200 sqm, heated, saltwater infinity pool with sunset views toward the marina and port. The pool sits immediately above the reception with a partial glass floor; swimmers can see down into the lobby; downstairs guests can see up into the pool. At night the pool is lit with small fiber-optic lights to mimic a starlit sky.
  • Spa: The hotel offers a heavenly, 500 sqm spa with a heated thalassotherapy pool, a sauna, and a spacious, traditional hammam. Wellness services are inspired by the healing techniques and rituals of Hippocrates paired with contemporary therapies and cutting-edge products. Guests enjoy complimentary access to the spa’s sauna and hammam.
  • Fitness Center: The 24-hour gym features a range of cardio, strength training, and stretching machines, along with free weights and TRX equipment.
  • For Disabled Guests: A rare thing in Mykonos: all rooms and facilities are accessible by elevator. Though no rooms are specially designed with wheelchair users in mind, all have walk-in showers with no lip to step over, separate from the free-standing bathtubs. Though it’s definitely not ADA compliant, this is perhaps the best hotel in Mykonos for those with limited mobility.
  • For Families: Mykonos Riviera welcomes guests of all ages in their generously sized rooms and suites, all with the option to be set up with 1 king or 2 twin beds, plus they have sofabeds; baby cots are available for free. Babysitting and children’s meals can be arranged.
  • Activities: The hotel hosts wine tastings, private dining, cooking classes, private barbeques, DJs all day by the pool, and live music at the pool bar during sunset. A dedicated concierge team can organize a host of off-site activities, such as speed boat excursions to secluded beaches with a chef-prepared picnic basket, sunset photoshoots, helicopter tours to nearby islands, archaeological tours to Delos, and more.

Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa – Local Transport

  • Walking: The hotel is located on the main road in Tourlos overlooking the marina and the New Port, where the inter-island ferries and cruise ships arrive and depart. The ferry terminal is a 10-minute walk away, though the hotel offers complimentary arrival and departure shuttles, so there is no need to walk there. The closest beach, Agios Stefanos, is about a 15-minute walk north, while the dining, nightlife, and shopping of Mykonos Town is about a 25-minute walk south. Be advised that there is no sidewalk along this stretch of road until you are closer to the Old Port of Mykonos Town. Mykonos Riviera offers a free shuttle to and from town every hour from 7 pm to midnight every evening. A handful of casual tavernas and restaurants are within a 5-minute walk of the hotel in either direction along the main road
  • Bus: Mykonos Riviera is just a minute’s walk from the bus stop with routes running between the New Port and Mykonos Town (Fabrika bus stop). From Fabrika, it’s just a 5 to 15-minute walk to all the hotspots: Little Venice, Chora (downtown), and the Old Port. Fabrika is the main bus stop in Mykonos Town, with routes from here linking to the airport, New Port (Tourlos), and some of the island’s best beaches: Platis Gialos, Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Paradise, and Paraga. Walk 15 minutes from Fabrika to the Old Port bus stop to reach Agios Stefanos Beach, Ano Mera village, and the quieter beaches of Panormos, Elia, Kalo Livadi, and Kalafati. Bus tickets cost from €1.60 to €2.30, depending on the destination. Buses can get very crowded, especially during the high season, so much so that they often fill to capacity and are unable to take on more passengers. There are only 26 public buses serving the island. Bus schedules change every couple of weeks, so check the KTEL website for the most current timetables.
  • Taxi: The island’s main taxi stand is at the Old Port behind the Cosmote building and next to the post office, about a 20-minute walk from the hotel. There is also a taxi stand near the Fabrika bus stop, about a 35-minute walk away, but there are generally fewer taxis traveling through this area. There is almost always a wait at either taxi stand as there are only 30 taxis serving the entire island. Book ahead to avoid the wait, and have the driver meet you at the hotel instead. There will be a surcharge for advanced reservations (about €5) and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of euros. A taxi from the port or airport to Mykonos Riviera should be about €15-20.
  • Water Taxi: The New and Old Ports and several beaches are connected via a boat system. The SeaBus connects the New Port and Old Port with 4 stops: the ferry terminal, the marina (closest stop to the hotel), the Old Port bus/taxi stations, and the Old Port near Chora. Water taxis also serve the southern beaches, with routes connecting the main beaches at Ornos and Platis Gialos with the more remote beaches at Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia. An all-day, all-beach pass costs €20.
  • Scooters and ATVs: Scooters are the main mode of transportation for the locals, and ATVs are super popular with tourists, but if you’re unfamiliar with the terrain, these can be very dangerous to drive. The roads in Mykonos are zig-zagging, hilly, narrow, littered with potholes, sometimes dirt roads, and without street lights in most areas outside of Mykonos Town. And that’s not to mention the aggressive drivers, some of the world’s worst. A rental car is a much safer bet than a scooter or ATV, and can just as easily reach the more remote beaches on the island.
