Psarou vs Mykonos Town, Ornos, Platis Gialos, Agios Ioannis, and Elia

  • Psarou vs Mykonos Town: Psarou is a luxury beach scene, with high-end hotels, yachts, beach clubs, expensive sunbeds, and a polished see-and-be-seen atmosphere. Mykonos Town is a real town, with a maze of lanes, bars, clubs, restaurants, boutiques, sunset views, and late-night energy. Choose Psarou if you want your days centered on luxury beach-club life; choose Mykonos Town if you want your evenings centered on walking, shopping, dining, and going out.
  • Psarou vs Ornos: Ornos is better for families, convenience, calmer water, casual restaurants, supermarkets, and frequent buses to Mykonos Town. Psarou is glossier, more exclusive, and more expensive, with luxury hotels, yachts, Nammos, and a see-and-be-seen beach-club scene. Choose Ornos for ease and practicality; choose Psarou for luxury and social energy.
  • Psarou vs Platis Gialos: Platis Gialos has more hotel choice, more casual dining, and better beach-hopping by water taxi. Psarou is more polished and high-end, but also pricier and less flexible. Choose Platis Gialos for the better all-around beach base; choose Psarou for a more exclusive beach-club stay.
  • Psarou vs Agios Ioannis: Agios Ioannis is quieter, more romantic, and better for sunset views, with a peaceful beach and a more understated feel. Psarou is livelier, flashier, and more social, with one of the island’s most famous beach scenes. Choose Agios Ioannis for calm; choose Psarou for glamour.
  • Psarou vs Elia: Elia has a longer, more spacious beach and a quieter upscale resort feel, but it is farther from Mykonos Town. Psarou is closer to town and more glamorous, but the beach is smaller, busier, and more expensive. Choose Elia for space and quiet luxury; choose Psarou for a high-energy luxury scene.

Staying in Psarou

Psarou Beach in Mykonos, just in front of our hotel.

Psarou is one of the most exclusive beach areas on Mykonos, set in a sheltered bay about 5 km from Mykonos Town. It is beautiful, polished, and expensive, with luxury hotels, high-end restaurants, designer shopping, yachts in the bay, and the famous Nammos Beach Club dominating the scene.

Stay in Psarou if you want a glamorous beach-club atmosphere and do not mind paying high prices for sunbeds, food, drinks, and beach service. This is not the best choice for a quiet, traditional, or good-value Mykonos stay. Sunbeds at Nammos can be very expensive and are often packed close together near the water, but the service, people-watching, and social energy are a big part of the appeal.

There is still a public section of beach where you can lay down a towel, though much of the best-positioned sand is taken by organized beach clubs and restaurants. Just inland from the beach is Nammos Village, an upscale shopping area with international luxury brands, small boutiques, and a landscaped plaza.

Psarou is a 10-minute walk from Platis Gialos, useful for restaurants, bus service, and the Mykonos water taxi, which connects several beaches along the south coast.

Psarou Beach Information

  • Location: Psarou is on the south coast of Mykonos, about 3 km southwest of the airport and 500m west of Platis Gialos beach.
  • Parking: Paid parking is available near the beach, but spaces fill quickly in high season. Arrive early if you are driving.
  • Bus: The nearest public bus stop is at Platis Gialos, about a 10-minute walk from Psarou.
  • Water taxi: Psarou does not have a water taxi stop. Use nearby Platis Gialos for water taxis to Ornos, Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, and Elia.

The Best Hotels in Psarou

1. Mykonos Blu

Cave pool at Mykonos Blu Hotel when we stayed there.

Opulent family-friendly hotel on a hill next to Psarou beach, with a striking white and blue theme throughout. The elegant accommodations are uniquely designed and several feature sea views. Higher-end accommodations come with jacuzzis or indoor/outdoor private pools. Dining options include two restaurants, a rooftop lounge, a beach lounge, and three small bars. There’s also an exquisite full-service spa with sauna, gym, a split-level saltwater infinity pool overlooking the bay, a kids pool, a playroom, and a private beach section. The beach and its clubs are just down a flight of stairs.

2. Nammos Hotel Mykonos

My hotel in Psarou, Mykonos.

A glossy luxury hotel right on Psarou Beach, best for travelers who want high-end rooms, beach-club energy, designer shopping, and one of the island’s most social scenes right outside the door. Not the place for quiet seclusion or good value, but it’s fantastic if you want glamour, service, and easy access to the famous Nammos beach scene.
