The Mykonos “New” ferry port (also called Tourlos) is 2 km north of Mykonos Town. The port is served by taxi and regular bus service which stop directly in front of the ferries. Tickets to Athens can be purchased at the port but I recommend passengers buy ferry tickets online.
Ferries from Mykonos to Rafina (Athens)
The Rafina ferry port is an excellent alternative to Piraeus, especially if you are heading directly to Athens Airport. The journey takes 2.5 to 3 hours by high-speed catamaran (SeaJets, Golden Star) and 4 to 4.5 hours by conventional car ferries (Fast Ferries, Golden Star).
- The Route: Almost all ferries on this line stop in Tinos and Andros before reaching Rafina. It is a scenic route through the northern Cyclades.
- Schedule: In high season (May to October), there are 4 to 7 departures per day. Morning: There is usually one or two departures before noon. Afternoon: The bulk of the ferries depart Mykonos between 12:00 PM and 18:30 PM, returning from their morning runs.
- Winter Service: In low season (November to March), there is usually only one ferry per day (often leaving Mykonos in the morning).
- Arrival in Rafina: Upon arrival, you are a 20-minute taxi ride or 30-minute bus ride from Athens Airport. Taxis line up right at the dock. The KTEL bus to the airport departs from the station just up the hill from the ferry ramp.
My Tips for Tickets & Booking
- Where to buy: I recommend Ferryhopper.com. It shows schedules for all three major companies on this route (SeaJets, Golden Star, and Fast Ferries) so you can compare prices and times easily.
- Best Seats: High-Speed: Book Business or VIP for more space than Economy. Conventional: Standard Economy is fine. These ships are large and stable, and you can spend time on the outside decks.
- When to book: For travel in June to September, book 2 to 3 months in advance. Otherwise, 3 to 4 weeks in advance is sufficient.
