Santorini’s beaches are interesting because of their volcanic sand and cliffs. Perissa, Perivolos, Kamari, Vlychada, and Red Beach are worth visiting, but few travelers spend an entire day at them and decide they are the highlight of the trip.

The water is clear, there are dozens of coves and beaches, and swimming becomes part of nearly every day.

Several of the island’s best swimming spots have no road access, which is why a boat trip is so important. Even beaches reached by car feel less developed and more connected to the natural landscape than Santorini’s main beach towns.

Santorini has enjoyable swimming at Perissa, Perivolos, Kamari, Ammoudi, and on catamaran cruises, but the island is not built around beach days.
