Breakfast out our caldera view hotel in Imerovigli, Santorini.
Santorini Airbnb, Villas, & Vacation Homes
- Where to Stay in Santorini: My favorite towns are Imerovigli, Oia, and Fira. All have amazing caldera views. Imerovigli has the best sunset views on Santorini.
- Best Villas in Santorini: Aria Villas (Fira) • Oia Mansion (Oia) • Grace Villa with Private Pool (Imerovigli)
- Best Santorini Hotels: Grace Santorini • Katikies • Canaves Ena • Cavo Tagoo
- I don’t recommend using Airbnb.com for Santorini Villas as there are few good rentals, their location is often not ideal, and the best places are usually hotels that have better rates on Booking.com (and a more flexible cancellation policy).
- For great honeymoon hotels, caldera views, private pools, and infinity pools stay in one of the Best Santorini Hotels.
- If you want an inexpensive place to stay with a good location then stay in one of Santorini’s best budget hotels or cheap Santorini hotels with a caldera view.
- There are very few Santorini Airbnb with pool. If it does have a pool then it’s probably just a hotel in which case you’ll get a better rate booking directly.
- Convenient and reliable private transport from the Santorini airport or ferry port can be pre-booked through Welcome Pickups.
The 7 Best Airbnb in Santorini
I have linked to the Booking.com page for each property as you’ll get better rates and more flexibility if you need to cancel. If you want a more extensive list check out my picks for Best Santorini Villas.
1. Hara’s Houses – Imerovigli
Fantastic views from 5 studios (all with kitchenettes) perched on the caldera’s edge.
2. Ananda Suites – Imerovigli
Wonderful sunset views from the top of Imerovigli. Units sleep 2 to 4 and have private outdoor hot tubs with view.
3. Hector Cave House – Oia
Luxury cave houses with great caldera views. There are 3 units, one for a couple, one for a group of 4, and one for a group of 5.
4. Lava Caves – Oia
Awesome caldera views. One-bedroom house with private jacuzzi.
5. Trieris Villa & Suites – Fira
Beautiful 3-bedroom villa with volcano views or a charming honeymoon cave suite. Both have private hot tubs.
6. Porto Fira Villas – Fira
Stunning penthouse villa or 3-bedroom villa. Both with great views and private jacuzzi.
7. Exclusive Plan Suites – Firostefani
Three beautiful suites with views and private plunge pools.
Using Airbnb in Santorini
An Airbnb rental in Oia, Santorini.
- Be very careful. I have seen some Airbnb Santorini rentals that aren’t really rentals – just photos that have been taken from a website and re-posted as an Airbnb accommodation.
- Very few Airbnb rentals have a caldera view as this land is almost exclusively owned by hotels. If a Santorini Airbnb has the description “great views” it’s probably talking about the eastern views, not caldera/volcano views.
- Where to stay in Santorini: Fira has the most nightlife and shopping. Imerovigli has the best views and best restaurants. Oia is a bit of both – quieter than Fira but more activity than Imerovigli.
- Most Santorini Airbnbs are located near Kamari Beach or Perissa Beach – which is fine but there are not many rentals near the picturesque towns of Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, or Firostefani (which is where I recommend most people should stay).
- The biggest complaint I have about Airbnb (and I hear this from friends and readers too) is that meeting with the owner to gain access to the rental is often difficult and time-consuming. With a hotel, it’s always easy. Get off your flight, get a taxi, go to the hotel, check-in. With Airbnb, expect a slow, time-consuming hassle. In fairness, it’s rarely more than a half-hour but it’s a lousy way to start your holiday.
- If you need help with figuring out the location of a Santorini Airbnb (or any Santorini vacation rental) then post the link below and I’ll take a look. Though I don’t know many of the Santorini Airbnbs, by studying the pictures and the map I can usually make a good guess on its true location.

Hi Dave! Finding your website so full of helpful information for our trip in September, thank you! Can I ask your opinion on this Airbnb location please? https://abnb.me/Eq6Njr0FnKb It’s MiCasa in Oia.
Jennifer Isles
I’m not familiar with MiCasa. It looks nice but with no neighborhood pictures I can’t tell where it is.
Hey Dave! Your guide is amazing! Thanks for all the info!
How is this AirBNB in your opinion?
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12877489
Ammos Oia Mansion is a great place with a fantastic central location (though it doesn’t have sunset views).
As you can see, you’ll get much better rates if you book Ammos on its Booking page.
Hi Dave. I booked this AirBnb for part of our honeymoon in May. It has great reviews and what looks like a great location. Can you give me your opinion?
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/24689177
Thanks!
Looks great, located in the southern section of Imerovigli an easy walk to many restaurants and a few markets. But I’m not personally familiar with it.
Hey Dave, My girlfriend and I are going to Santorini from Oct 10-15. I have already looked at your restaurant reviews and we plan to go to many that you listed, I will be sure to mention I heard about them through you.
Planning to spend two nights in Fira at one of these two places:
A: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48274701 or
B: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48994724
Planning to spend the next three nights in Oia at one of these two places:
C: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/50345554 or
D: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27895738
Can you please advise what you think of these? I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
Jack Wayne
In Fira, rental A has great caldera views and central location, rental B does not seem to have caldera views and is a little less central. In Oia, rental C is much closer to the center of town but neither rentals have caldera views (both sea views to the northeast). I hope that helps.
Hi Dave,
My husband and I traveling with 4 young adults 17-23 which is why I thought Airbnb would be easier. Can you tell me your thoughts on this Airbnb:
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14215599
Thanks!
It looks great but I don’t know it. It says it’s in Fira and the pictures support that – though you can’t see surrounding buildings or location along the caldera. Sorry, I can’t be more help.
Hi Dave ,
Can you tell me if this is a good place to stay? It seems like it’s very nice and great views but after reading what you said i wanted to check with you.

That is 180° Caldera by Stylish Stays – a small villa/hotel in Firostefani. As always, Booking.com has a slightly cheaper rate and a much better cancelation policy.
Hi Dave,
We rent out our family holiday home on Airbnb. It’s on the Caldera with the famous view and a lot of space. And Indeed I have to agree with you that many of the Airbnb places unfortunately are not what is shown on the internet. But there are some places, like ours and also of some friends (in Firostefani) which are even better in reality than the uploaded pictures.
If you are nearby, you can take a look at ours. We have also somebody on the island to welcome to the guests and hands over the keys and show the basics of the house. So below is a link via Airbnb, but you can also find us without Airbnb. And I could even name you to more rentals in Firostefani.

Kind regards
Anette – Spiti Barbara – Firostefani
Great. Thanks Anette. I think your place looks wonderful.

Hi Dave. We have booked this place in July. Looks amazing, reviews are great and says view of caldera although not sunset. Can you please comment if you know anything about it. Thanks.
Looks great but I don’t know this one. From photos, looks like there is a caldera view and no sunset view (like you said). Hope that helps.
Hi Dave,
So a friend and I are looking to stay two nights in Santorini from Mykonos and we want a location that is close enough to things but far enough from the tourist traps. Is Imerovigli ideal? If we stay back from the caldera is there still markets and grocery stores in Imerovigli that we can walk to?
Thanks so much.
It depends on the location (it might say it’s located in Imerovigli but be down the eastern slope a fair distance) but if it’s truly in Imerovigli then yes, there are many small markets and lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Hi Dave, I have found all of your tips and reviews to be very helpful as we plan our trip to Santorini in August. Would love to know your thoughts on this Airbnb in Imerovigli. We were looking for something more private than a hotel but still offer beautiful caldera views.
Thanks in advance!
It looks like it has a great location and view but I don’t know it specifically. It’s also on Booking.com ($618 for 3 nights) for a much cheaper rate than on Airbnb ($851 for 3 nights).
Hello Dave,
I’m looking to visit in August & I found this Airbnb:
https://abnb.me/GqVCFqWP1R
I understand it’s a little bit isolated being in the center of the island. What do you think? Is it far from Oia & other tourist spots? I’m looking for somewhere quiet & relaxing. Waking up to a caldera view is not a necessity.
Thank You,
Omar
The Fertimo and Karpimo Suites are in Exo Gonia which is about a 10 minute drive from Fira and 25 minute drive from Oia. Besides the wonderful Art Space winery there is not much within walking distance. Even Metaxy Mas (which is also in Exo Gonia) is a short but steep uphill walk. For bus service you’d need to walk out to the road leading to Kamari and get a Fira-Kamari bus – not hard but not super convenient either. I would highly recommend getting a rental car if you stay out here.
Dave – really enjoying exploring your site, terrific information. My family has booked this Airbnb for the Summer (they’re beach people). Thoughts? Many thanks!
I don’t know this hotel but looks nice (just don’t be expecting a 4 or 5 star place – it looks like a good simple clean place to stay but nothing luxurious). The description says it’s 5 minutes from the beach but I’d plan on it being a 10 to 15 minute walk by the time you find your preferred spot on the beach. The bus for Fira does stop very near to the hotel and there are many decent restaurants and a few lively bars within an easy walk.
Hi Dave,
We’ve booked this windmill apartment in Oia for 3 days in June of next year and would love your opinion on it if you have one.
It has good reviews on homeaway.com and has access to a pool (albeit public pool).
Thanks!
It is smaller than the Windmill at Golden Sunset Villas (where I’ve stayed) and the patio smaller with less privacy. But it’s still nice and having easy pool access is great. Nice sunset views but not really caldera views.
Hi Dave,
It is our first time to Santorini would like to seek your opinion on this home:
https://www.airbnb.com.sg/rooms/20172510
Is the location close to Fira town?
It’s not right in the center of town, nor does it have a caldera view, but yes, it’s about a 7 to 10 minute (uphill) walk to the main area of Fira.
Hi Dave
Our first time on the island. Found this place on Airbnb. Would love your opinion, please.
That is Olia Villas & Suites in Imerovigli. Very new. Good location, great views.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for the website. What do you think about this Airbnb? I’m planning to do the Fira to Oia hike, but how long do you think it will take if I start from here?
Here’s the location of that Airbnb in Google street view (it wasn’t built yet when this was taken but that’s the location). It will be about a 15 minute walk from there to the start of the footpath (in Fira). Much of that is uphill. If you’re in good shape, it’s quick and easy. If you’re not a walker you could easily get to the “start” of the hike and think, oh man, I need a beer.
Your website has been so helpful as we plan our honeymoon in Greece! Can you give us some insight into if this Airbnb is in a good location in Oia?
Thanks!
I do not know this rental but if the pictures are accurate it has a central location in Oia with great caldera views (but no sunset views).
Hi Dave,
Looking at this Airbnb in Imerovigli.
Can you let me know what you think?
Thank you!
Good location. Personally, I would book through Booking.com or the hotel website – better prices than Airbnb.
Hi Dave. I tried looking at Airbnb and found your site and now am a bit wary. Would you suggest Suites of the Gods or the Kasimatis Suites?
Thanks
Kasimatis Suites is a great hotel and one of my favorite mid-range places in Santorini. Wonderful views and steps from a number of great restaurants. The main building used to be a winery and some suites still have the holes where grapes would be dropped down into the caves to be crushed into wine. Suites of the Gods is located in a semi-remote section of the island with very little within walking distance. Nice hotel but you’ll want a rental car for sure if you stay out there.
Hi Dave! Love your site! Unfortunately, I only just stumbled across it after already booking the following Airbnb. Would you mind taking a look and giving your opinion? Obviously no view, but hoping the location is still pretty good. We booked the trip in high season without much advance so availability was scarce among hotels.

Thanks!

That is Naftilos Boutique Apartments in Finikia. They are very good value and quite nice. It will be about a 20 minute walk into central Oia. A small portion of your walk will be along a busy road but then be sure to cut across as soon as you can and get on the footpath into Oia (don’t walk the road all the way into Oia). There is a bus stop (with buses to Fira and Oia) very close to the hotel. As always, you will get better rates by reserving with Booking.com than with Airbnb. Plus, I find it has a more flexible cancellation policy than Airbnb.
