Santorini Airbnb, Villas, & Vacation Homes
- Where to Stay in Santorini: My favorite towns are Imerovigli, Oia, and Fira. All have amazing caldera views. Imerovigli has the best sunset views on Santorini.
- Best Villas in Santorini: Aria Villas (Fira) • Oia Mansion (Oia) • Grace Villa with Private Pool (Imerovigli)
- Best Santorini Hotels: Grace Santorini • Katikies • Canaves • Cavo Tagoo
- I don’t recommend using Airbnb.com for Santorini Villas as there are few good rentals, their location is often not ideal, and the best places are usually hotels that have better rates on Booking.com (and a more flexible cancellation policy).
- For great honeymoon hotels, caldera views, private pools, and infinity pools stay in one of the Best Santorini Hotels.
- If you want an inexpensive place to stay with a good location then stay in one of Santorini’s best budget hotels or cheap Santorini hotels with a caldera view.
- There are very few Santorini Airbnb with pool. If it does have a pool then it’s probably just a hotel in which case you’ll get a better rate booking directly.
- Convenient and reliable private transport from the Santorini airport or ferry port can be pre-booked through Welcome Pickups.
The 8 Best Airbnb in Santorini
I have linked to the Booking.com page for each property as you’ll get better rates and more flexibility if you need to cancel. If you want a more extensive list check out my picks for Best Santorini Villas.
1. Eden Villas – Imerovigli
Luxurious one, two, three, and seven-bedroom villas with awesome caldera views.
2. Hara’s Houses – Imerovigli
Fantastic views from 5 studios (all with kitchenettes) perched on the caldera’s edge.
3. Ananda Suites – Imerovigli
Wonderful sunset views from the top of Imerovigli. Units sleep 2 to 4 and have private outdoor hot tubs with view.
4. Hector Cave House – Oia
Luxury cave houses with great caldera views. There are 3 units, one for a couple, one for a group of 4, and one for a group of 5.
5. Lava Caves – Oia
Awesome caldera views. One-bedroom house with private jacuzzi.
6. Trieris Villa & Suites – Fira
Beautiful 3-bedroom villa with volcano views or a charming honeymoon cave suite. Both have private hot tubs.
7. Porto Fira Villas – Fira
Stunning penthouse villa or 3-bedroom villa. Both with great views and private jacuzzi.
8. Exclusive Plan Suites – Firostefani
Three beautiful suites with views and private plunge pools.
Using Airbnb in Santorini
- Be very careful. I have seen some Airbnb Santorini rentals that aren’t really rentals – just photos that have been taken from a website and re-posted as an Airbnb accommodation.
- Very few Airbnb rentals have a caldera view as this land is almost exclusively owned by hotels. If a Santorini Airbnb has the description “great views” it’s probably talking about the eastern views, not caldera/volcano views.
- Where to stay in Santorini: Fira has the most nightlife and shopping. Imerovigli has the best views and best restaurants. Oia is a bit of both – quieter than Fira but more activity than Imerovigli.
- Most Santorini Airbnbs are located near Kamari Beach or Perissa Beach – which is fine but there are not many rentals near the picturesque towns of Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, or Firostefani (which is where I recommend most people should stay).
- The biggest complaint I have about Airbnb (and I hear this from friends and readers too) is that meeting with the owner to gain access to the rental is often difficult and time-consuming. With a hotel, it’s always easy. Get off your flight, get a taxi, go to the hotel, check-in. With Airbnb, expect a slow, time-consuming hassle. In fairness, it’s rarely more than a half-hour but it’s a lousy way to start your holiday.
- If you need help with figuring out the location of a Santorini Airbnb (or any Santorini vacation rental) then post the link below and I’ll take a look. Though I don’t know many of the Santorini Airbnbs, by studying the pictures and the map I can usually make a good guess on its true location.
Hey Dave! Your guide is amazing! Thanks for all the info!
How is this AirBNB in your opinion?
Ammos Oia Mansion is a great place with a fantastic central location (though it doesn’t have sunset views).
As you can see, you’ll get much better rates if you book Ammos on its Booking page.
Hi Dave. I booked this AirBnb for part of our honeymoon in May. It has great reviews and what looks like a great location. Can you give me your opinion?
Looks great, located in the southern section of Imerovigli an easy walk to many restaurants and a few markets. But I’m not personally familiar with it.
Hey Dave, My girlfriend and I are going to Santorini from Oct 10-15. I have already looked at your restaurant reviews and we plan to go to many that you listed, I will be sure to mention I heard about them through you.
Planning to spend two nights in Fira at one of these two places:
A: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/48274701 or
Planning to spend the next three nights in Oia at one of these two places:
C: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/50345554 or
Can you please advise what you think of these? I really appreciate your help. Thank you.
In Fira, rental A has great caldera views and central location, rental B does not seem to have caldera views and is a little less central. In Oia, rental C is much closer to the center of town but neither rentals have caldera views (both sea views to the northeast). Hope that helps.
My husband and I traveling with 4 young adults 17-23 which is why I thought Airbnb would be easier. Can you tell me your thoughts on this Airbnb:
It looks great but I don’t know it. It says it’s in Fira and the pictures support that – though you can’t see surrounding buildings or location along the caldera. Sorry, I can’t be more help.
Hi Dave ,
Can you tell me if this is a good place to stay? It seems like it’s very nice and great views but after reading what you said i wanted to check with you.
That is 180° Caldera by Stylish Stays – a small villa/hotel in Firostefani. As always, Booking.com has a slightly cheaper rate and a much better cancelation policy.
We rent out our family holiday home on Airbnb. It’s on the Caldera with the famous view and a lot of space. And Indeed I have to agree with you that many of the Airbnb places unfortunately are not what is shown on the internet. But there are some places, like ours and also of some friends (in Firostefani) which are even better in reality than the uploaded pictures.
If you are nearby, you can take a look at ours. We have also somebody on the island to welcome to the guests and hands over the keys and show the basics of the house. So below is a link via Airbnb, but you can also find us without Airbnb. And I could even name you to more rentals in Firostefani.
Anette – Spiti Barbara – Firostefani
Great. Thanks Anette. Your place looks wonderful.
Hi Dave. We have booked this place in July. Looks amazing, reviews are great and says view of caldera although not sunset. Can you please comment if you know anything about it. Thanks.
Looks great but I don’t know this one. From photos, looks like there is a caldera view and no sunset view (like you said). Hope that helps.
So a friend and I are looking to stay two nights in Santorini from Mykonos and we want a location that is close enough to things but far enough from the tourist traps. Is Imerovigli ideal? If we stay back from the caldera is there still markets and grocery stores in Imerovigli that we can walk to?
Thanks so much.
It depends on the location (it might say it’s located in Imerovigli but be down the eastern slope a fair distance) but if it’s truly in Imerovigli then yes, there are many small markets and lots of restaurants within walking distance.
Hi Dave, I have found all of your tips and reviews to be very helpful as we plan our trip to Santorini in August. Would love to know your thoughts on this Airbnb in Imerovigli. We were looking for something more private than a hotel but still offer beautiful caldera views.
Thanks in advance!
It looks like it has a great location and view but I don’t know it specifically. It’s also on Booking.com ($618 for 3 nights) for a much cheaper rate than on Airbnb ($851 for 3 nights).
I’m looking to visit in August & I found this Airbnb:
I understand it’s a little bit isolated being in the center of the island. What do you think? Is it far from Oia & other tourist spots? I’m looking for somewhere quiet & relaxing. Waking up to a caldera view is not a necessity.
The Fertimo and Karpimo Suites are in Exo Gonia which is about a 10 minute drive from Fira and 25 minute drive from Oia. Besides the wonderful Art Space winery there is not much within walking distance. Even Metaxy Mas (which is also in Exo Gonia) is a short but steep uphill walk. For bus service you’d need to walk out to the road leading to Kamari and get a Fira-Kamari bus – not hard but not super convenient either. A rental car would be highly recommended if you stay out here.
Dave – really enjoying exploring your site, terrific information. My family has booked this Airbnb for the Summer (they’re beach people). Thoughts? Many thanks!
I don’t know this hotel but looks nice (just don’t be expecting a 4 or 5 star place – it looks like a good simple clean place to stay but nothing luxurious). The description says it’s 5 minutes from the beach but I’d plan on it being a 10 to 15 minute walk by the time you find your preferred spot on the beach. The bus for Fira does stop very near to the hotel and there are many decent restaurants and a few lively bars within an easy walk.
We’ve booked this windmill apartment in Oia for 3 days in June of next year and would love your opinion on it if you have one.
It has good reviews on homeaway.com and has access to a pool (albeit public pool).
It is smaller than the Windmill at Golden Sunset Villas and the patio smaller with less privacy. But it’s still nice and having easy pool access is great. Nice sunset views but not really caldera views.
It is our first time to Santorini would like to seek your opinion on this home:
Is the location close to Fira town?
It’s not right in the center of town, nor does it have a caldera view, but yes, it’s about a 7 to 10 minute (uphill) walk to the main area of Fira.
Our first time on the island. Found this place on Airbnb. Would love your opinion, please.
That is Olia Villas & Suites in Imerovigli. Very new. Good location, great views.
Hi Dave, thank you so much for the website. What do you think about this Airbnb? I’m planning to do the Fira to Oia hike, but how long do you think it will take if I start from here?
Here’s the location of that Airbnb in Google street view (it wasn’t built yet when this was taken but that’s the location). It will be about a 15 minute walk from there to the start of the footpath (in Fira). Much of that is uphill. If you’re in good shape, it’s quick and easy. If you’re not a walker you could easily get to the “start” of the hike and think, oh man, I need a beer.
Your website has been so helpful as we plan our honeymoon in Greece! Can you give us some insight into if this Airbnb is in a good location in Oia?
I do not know this rental but if the pictures are accurate it has a central location in Oia with great caldera views (but no sunset views).
Looking at this Airbnb in Imerovigli.
Can you let me know what you think?
Good location. Personally, I would book through Booking.com or the hotel website – better prices than Airbnb.
Hi Dave. I tried looking at Airbnb and found your site and now am a bit wary. Would you suggest Suites of the Gods or the Kasimatis Suites?
Kasimatis Suites is a great hotel and one of my favorite mid-range places in Santorini. Wonderful views and steps from a number of great restaurants. The main building used to be a winery and some suites still have the holes where grapes would be dropped down into the caves to be crushed into wine. Suites of the Gods is located in a semi-remote section of the island with very little within walking distance. Nice hotel but you’ll want a rental car for sure if you stay out there.
Hi Dave! Love your site! Unfortunately, I only just stumbled across it after already booking the following Airbnb. Would you mind taking a look and giving your opinion? Obviously no view, but hoping the location is still pretty good. We booked the trip in high season without much advance so availability was scarce among hotels.
That is Naftilos Boutique Apartments in Finikia. They are very good value and quite nice. It will be about a 20 minute walk into central Oia. A small portion of your walk will be along a busy road but then be sure to cut across as soon as you can and get on the footpath into Oia (don’t walk the road all the way into Oia). There is a bus stop (with buses to Fira and Oia) very close to the hotel. As always, you will get better rates by reserving with Booking.com than with Airbnb. Plus, it has a more flexible cancellation policy than Airbnb.
Slightly concerned having just booked an Airbnb and only now reading your website. Can you tell me what you know about Exclusive Plan Suites? Was really drawn to the beautiful views and the hot tub on the balcony which led me to booking it.
Great location and views in Firostefani and about a 10-12 minute walk to shops, restaurants, and nightlife of Fira. The best restaurants in Santorini are in Imerovigli (the opposite direction of Fira) and about a 15 minute walk (uphill) or short bus ride. You’ll get slightly better rates on Booking.com than Airbnb.
Hi Dave, great website. My wife and I have a few day stay booked at Belle Etoille. Looks like it’s close to Imerovigli and not too far from Fira. Has sunrise views. Any thoughts on this property? Thanks for all you do.
Nice place to save money. Location looks close to Imerovigli but it’s a good 12/15 minute walk along a busy road, mostly uphill. It’s fine if you have a rental car and spend a good deal of time out exploring the island. But if you want to be walking distance from caldera restaurants, shopping, nightlife, then this is not the place.
Hi Dave – We are coming to Santorini this spring and I was wondering if you have an opinion on the Villa’s Anita that I found on AirBNB?
I don’t know that villa but from the pictures it looks like a great location in Imerovigli. Some of the best restaurants on Santorini are within a short walk.
First, Thanks Dave! for all that you do! Could give your input on this new property that has popped up on AirBnB? It has no reviews and user just signed up in October.
Oia – A Unique Experience
It’s on the opposite side of the main road into Oia (from the caldera). Views are not of the caldera or sunset but you would have a sunrise view. 5 to 10 minute walk to a wide range of restaurants.
Hello Dave. Great website. I’m wondering if you have a moment and could offer you insight on an AirBnB location I’m considering. I will be in Santorini in July for 2 nights. Since we are there for a very short time I don’t want spend a lot of it on a bus or taxi just getting to where and what we want to see. We are looking for something close to Fira center but on its outskirts away from the crowds and noise at night. Not having the caldera view is fine with us as the caldera view puts them out of budget. We are considering the following offer from AirBnB. What can you tell me about this location as far as getting to enjoy Fira but far enough from the noise at night?
It’s on a busy road 10 minutes from Fira. It’s an uphill walk into town. Not much immediately nearby but otherwise fine. Can also walk to Firostefani restaurants in about the same amount of time. You can see the location here on Google Street View.
We are planning a trip in June and would prefer to stay in Oia. Have you seen any of these airbnb’s before?
And what about this hotel? http://www.oiahotel.gr/index.html
Thank you for your time!
I don’t know those Airbnb rentals but it appears the first has a sunset view and the 2nd and 3rd have caldera views. (I prefer caldera views.) The photo gallery of the Atlantis Hotel is very deceiving as to its location and views. It’s an OK place to stay but the views are not what those photos imply.
Please help me get some more information for –
The Hector Luxury Cave :
Hector Caldera Nest studio :
Found it on Airbnb – OIA Location.
I have not stayed at either but both look to have great caldera views from central Oia. Neither will have sunset views however.
Just to add, two years ago, I booked an Airbnb which is also a hotel. I found out later when I was looking for info.
In the end, by booking directly the hotel was cheaper.
Very dishonest tactics.
Yes, agreed. Hotels prefer Airbnb over Booking.com as they tend to charge more. Not sure if I’d call it dishonest (they’re free to do what they want to do) but it is better for travelers to book through a hotel booking site or even the hotel’s own website.
Katefiani Villas in Perissa, could you let me know if this would be a good base for visiting Santorini on a budget?
Nice hotel. Is it central? Not really. You’d be taking the bus to Fira (about 30 minutes) and then exploring from there.
Can you please help? My husband and I are looking to come to Santorini for 2 nights – are these legitimate? Which one would be best? We are 30 and active but still value privacy.
I don’t know any of these but from the pictures they all look to be in about the same location – just south of the town center with great caldera views (but no sunset views). There’s a lot of foot traffic in this area but some places still manage to have decent privacy.
Thank you so much for this wonderful website – my husband and I are planning our first trip to Greece and your site has been invaluable to us. We are going to spend 4 nights in Santorini in the first week of October this year. We are looking to book Smaro Studios in Firostefani for all 4 nights as it fits well in our budget. Could you please suggest if this is a good idea? Also is Firostefani a good base for our trip?
Great views and quiet location. A handful of good restaurants are within a 5 minute walk. For nightlife and shopping you need to make the 10 minute (down) to Fira and 15 minutes (back up). Or take the bus.
We are 4 people coming to Santorini after one week.
We have booked 5 nights from Irida Studios B&B in Imerovigli and 2 nights from airbnb in Fira (link below).
Do you happen to know these places and what’s your opinion of them?
Irida is great and has wonderful caldera views and a small pool. The Fira house is a 10 minute walk from central Fira and the views of the caldera but otherwise fine.
Hi Dave. Love your website! Our family of five (2 adults 3 kids ages 10-15) will be visiting Santorini this summer. Probably July. I’m looking to minimize expense but I’d like to find the nicest place I can for our budget. Hoping to stay below 400 euros per night. I’ve been looking at AirBnb and have narrowed it down to four places. I’d love your insight on which would be best based on location and view. I’d also love any other recommendations you’d have for our family of five in this price range.
All have good central locations a short walk from Oia’s shops and restaurants. The first 3 have caldera views but no sunset view. The last one has a sunset view but not a full caldera view. (I recommend caldera views over sunset views.)
Can’t thank you enough for all your wonderful information, so helpful!
After reading your website I’m a little concerned about my Airbnb rental.
If you get a chanse please let me know if this a real place?
We are staying 4 nights.
As far as I can tell it seems legit. Looks like it’s in the south section of Imerovigli, about a 5/10 minute walk to the best restaurants in Imerovigli and a 15 minute walk to shops and nightlife of Fira.
Hi Dave, your website is awesome and has been extremely helpful! We are planning our trip for next month, around middle of September. 2 questions: we are looking at 2 different places in Santorini, 1 is VRBO, the other is AIRBNB. Can you please tell me if these places are legit:
On AIRBNB – called Saint George Ocean Studio in Imerovigli
On VRBO – Oia’s Nest
Next question… Milos or Paros? Our plan is to spend 2 nights in Athens, 4 in Santorini, and 3-5 in Paros or Milos (or both). Originally we planned on staying in Paros at your suggestion Kanala’s and eating at Glafkos Taverna (looks amazing!) We’ve already booked Kanalas but can cancel. I’ve since seen pictures of Milos and falling in love! Should we stick w original plan of Paros, or go to Milos instead? Or go to both places (which would be Paros for 3 nights, Milos for 2 nights) Is it worth it to stop in Milos for just 2 nights? Thank you so much for getting back to me!
Both of those places look familiar but I just can’t place them. They seem very nice. I’m sure they’re fine. Both look to have beautiful caldera views (but neither will have a sunset view).
Both Milos and Paros are wonderful. Paros has the more typical greek island vibe than Milos. Milos, in some ways, feels like Santorini (very unique geographic features). You’ll love both and yes, you could visit both with five nights.
I did not see your opinion when we booked with Airbnb. Now I’m worried. Do you know if this Airbnb is legit?
To be honest, no idea. Probably fine. It’s located a long way from Fira and the caldera so you’ll need to rent a car or take the bus to get anywhere.
Hello Dave!!! So excited to have found you!! My cousin and I are planning a trip in sept on a budget! We didn’t plan on this trip but she got free tickets from her work (yay) and they have to be used!- not complaining one bit! So I have been checking out Airbnbs! But now you have me a bit scared! Can you check out these few links please and let me know if sound real and if location is ok! We want to be somewhat close to oia .
Also checking out (now) the Museum Spa Wellness Hotel – not the best hotel but it seems right there and in the budget!
Also, we will be here only 2 nights (I’m trying to convince her to do 3 but she wants to do a night or 2 in Mykonos and we will do 2 nights in Athens). What are the major things we should do? We like to have fun and explore! Winos!! Thank you for this website! And thank you ahead of time for your advice!
The first is Marcos Rooms in the heart of Oia – very central location steps from shops and restaurants. It’s also on Booking.com for about $25 cheaper than Airbnb. The 2nd is Ecoxenia Aparthotels which clearly gets great reviews from happy guests but this place is a good 25 minute walk outside of Oia with no bus service. Renting a car or ATV is recommended for staying here. 3 nights in Santorini is much better than 2 as you get a whole other full day which makes quite a difference.
Can you please tell me if this Oia Airbnb is in a good location with a nice view?
If we extend our trip by 2 days after being in Oia for 5 do you suggest relocating to a beach town? If so, which is best?
That is really Genesis Cave House in Oia. Yes, great caldera views (but no sunset views – for those you’ll have to climb the steps over to the other side of Oia Castle, which is right there). It’s located right in the heart of Oia but with many steps to access. You can try looking for prices on Booking.com but they seem to be greyed out as the owners prefer using Airbnb since they can charge a higher rate. Beach is fine for two days but with a week in Santorini I’m sure you’ll find you get enough beach time almost by accident. I think your final days might be a bit of a let down if you stay at the beach. I would encourage you to spend the last two days in Fira, Firostefani, or Imerovigli.
Do you happen to know of any Airbnb’s in Santorini that have an infinity pool and views of the caldera and volcano? Prefer somewhere between Fira and Oia. Traveling to Greece in July.
I don’t know of any Airbnb rentals with an infinity pool and view. I am not familiar with all (or even most) Santorini Airbnbs but nonetheless I would be surprised if there are any with an infinity pool overlooking the caldera. Small pools with no view, yes. But infinity pools, very unlikely. Hope that helps.
We have been looking at using Airbnb in Santorini as a way to save money for family of 4 (don’t need the best caldera views just a good clean rental that is not in a bad location). We are considering a home rental that is described as near the village of Exo Gonia (link: airbnb.com/19141618). I wonder if you could take a look and tell me what you think of this location. Very much appreciated.
This looks like a decent location. No caldera views but about a 15 minute drive to Fira, 30 to Oia. Most important the description seems accurate and they’re not trying to trick you into thinking you’ve got a great location. Metaxy Mas (an amazing restaurant), as the review describes, is nearby. Perhaps the only quibble is the description somewhat suggests that the open air cinema in Kamari is a walkable distance. It’s not, you will need a rental car to get there and back as no buses will get you home (especially late at night). Otherwise, looks good.
I wonder if you have any opinion on whether Airbnb or VRBO is better for finding houses in Santorini? (Or Homeaway or Expedia)? Looking for rentals that have great volcano views and could sleep a family of 5. Or one rental that could fit a large group. Full kitchen, private pool, washer and dryer, and close to restaurants and bars would be the ideal situation though realize might have to compromise on some features. Planning our visit for the summer, either late August or early September depending on whether we go to Mykonos first or second.
My hunch is that VRBO will have a higher degree of luxury. I’m basing this on just a few personal experiences and feedback from travelers but it seems to hold up. Airbnb is better for saving money. VRBO is better for finding high-end rentals. But for Santorini VRBO, the same applies. Very few will have caldera views as this is the domain of luxury hotels. Even finding a rental house close to bars, shopping, and restaurants will not be easy (regardless of view), but most should have a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and a pool is not terribly hard to find.
